and you have crazy people like me who have 70 in everything. I'd like to call such people 'gold members'
How long did that take?
I had everything capped back during Heavensward (I wanna say 3.3), and caught everything back up around when 4.2 hit. It's not too bad these days between roulettes, beast tribe dailies and Palace of the Dead runs. Combat classes get a flat 50% experience bonus if they're a lower level than your highest one. Gatherers and crafters can take a while depending on how you do it. Dark Knight, Astrologian, and Machinist all start at 30, and Red Mage and Samurai start at 50, so that also helps.

Leveling the tanks and healers was the easy part. The DPS on the other hand...If you don't have a normal group that you play with, waiting around for queues to pop can take upwards of half an hour. Luckily there were dailies like the centrilo hunts, fates, and leves for crafters/gatherers to help ease the pain of waiting.

It helped that I was leveling alongside my wife, and we set a rule of "one of us levels a tank/healer, one of us levels a DPS". So we only had two jobs where we had the long queues.
We play regularly, and took time off when Stormblood launched, so we had our first 70s that weekend. It probably took us about 2 months to level everything. Again, we're regular players, so we know the tricks to leveling aggressively.
Queen and I are very slowly working through the post ARR story missions. We've been mostly focused on levelling up crafting. As of now, I have MIN, BSM, ARM and GSM to 50, and Queen just hit 50 FSH and will finish up LTH soon.
I've been focused on the Ixal quests and expect to be done with them this weekend. We will soon have to decide when to buy the expansions as it still bugs Queen that we're "wasting" XP doing missions while capped at 50.
Also, if anyone's noticed, sorry for bogarting all the Shards from the guild house. I hope to be able to replace them soon.
Adding that plus enmity to Plunge makes me far more likely to open with it now
The big boost is to Sole Survivor (a.k.a. NOM) - now it always replenishes 20% HP/MP, with an added 10% if you kill the target. Also, Dark Mind no longer needs to be boosted.
Dark Passenger is still "why use this when you have Abyssal Drain", sadly.
The weekly Eureka challenges will help immensely, both for people catching up in Anemos, and when we get to Pagos finally.
Bards haven't been in patch PvE patch notes since 4.0 dropped. Turns out, we're better when we're not casters.
As with every patch since Stormblood I had happily forgotten the two main characters the story was following, until each patch's release. Now I'm forced to deal with them again. Keeping this somewhat vague for the likes of Romantic Undead and other newer players.
Here's to hoping for something that I enjoy this time. Though if you have been enjoying them more power to you.
I've heard that Akh Afah Amphitheatre (Extreme) is soloable for Diamond Dust farming. What's the minimum level to do so? Whatever it is, I don't seem to be there quite yet.
Huh. So their solution to players saying using Dark Arts was tedious, was to add Dark Arts effects to more attacks. :rotate:
EDIT: the palace of the dead changes to how you get the glowy weapons is pretty nice.
In the end it works out to be exactly the same costs, but you can get the things in increments of 10 power/armor instead of 30/60, so as to not so dramatically effect your performance. it suuuuuucks to drop down so much when you're spamming 51-60 for XP, so only losing 10 at a time will make it so you can stay at generally the same power level.
And if you're not collecting the weapons it doesn't really matter either way.
EDIT EDIT: I guess they didn't come to their senses
The loot rule for alliance raids is now locked to Greed Only.
So last night I managed to get into a group to heal in front of a live audience of thousands for a first-time Vault tank streamer. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/262983126?t=03h26m00s Then later I tweeted a picture from it, and in the morning I find my tweet has over 32,000 impressions and over 3,000 engagements. Now I'm just glad I put on a right proper glamour before doing that. Oh, and not letting anyone die. That would have been awkward.

I don't think that's referring to crafter gear; the highest crafter gear we have at the moment is only 330 or so. This is an upgrade path for DoW crafted 350 gear, sounds like.

I don't understand their plan for DoH/L gear this expansion.
HW had the base 60 stuff, then Carbonweave and then Ironworks, that were crafted.
SB has already done two white crafting sets on the left side, but just the base on the right. I assumed this patch would have the 320 right side; but are they going to do another tier? Or just another left side in 4.5?
But it would still leave the scrip gear, relative to how they did it in HW anyway, in an odd place. Augmented scrip gear in HW was 10ilvl above the Ironworks gear that was the best crafted stuff, but IW allowed for melding to push it over the stats of the scrip gear. But we've already got the augmented scrip left side and it is 330, 10 ilvl above the current crafted set. If they make another crafted set then it would be well above the scrip gear.
Could there be yet another level of scrip augmentation this round? I think they did introduce the scrip blue gear well before they had in HW, so that could make sense?
EDIT: I wonder how bad I fucked up by not really spending much time in Eureka before this patch; if everyone will have moved on to the new one and how much of a pain in the ass it will be to try to do the first tier going forward.

Depends almost entirely on how fruitful the exp rewards for the challenge log entries are. But also new Eureka isn't coming for a WHILE, so.

If you can make it to level 15 before 4.3.5 you should be okay. 17 is the last quest in Anemos and probably the required level for Pagos.
That's so cool! I love Max, and didn't even know he played FFXIV (I watch him to stay caught up on the fighting game scene and, more recently, for his Monster Hunter content)

If you want to see really young Max, he posted some video in 2013 when he was playing the game the first time.
He stopped playing the MSQ at level 28 of the quest chain, right before the Haukke Manor part, because he found that boring. Instead, he grinded to level 50 primarily off of FATEs (he's also an FFXI player). So when he got back into the game a month or two ago, he was already 50 and just did an ARR MSQ skip potion to start playing Heavensward.

Sounds like my wife. I understand the story/dialogue gets a little less stilted in the expacs, is that true? If it weren't for me, my wife would have bounced hard on this game ages ago. Dialogue in the main parts of this game is some archaic stuff, and the voice acting does it no favors. I'm cool with it 'cause I'm a nerd, and I suppose this kind of stuff can be immersive to some, but it's grating as hell to others who just want to have a good time kicking ass in an RPG setting.

The devs were pretty much crunched for time throughout the ARR years, and it does show in some ways.
I briefly checked out the new scrip/crafted DoL/H gear and now I'm even more confused than I already was about their intentions.
The new scrip accessories are 350, yet they only have marginally better stats than the HQ 290's, and can't be melded. That would have made sense if they were 300 like the other base scrip gear, but 350. The scrip off hands are 330.
I wonder if they made the accessories the wrong ilvl and it is a display issue? Their stats/ilvl don't make much sense otherwise. Their stats/ilvl don't make much sense regardless, but yeah.
It looks like there's an entire new crafted DoL/H set at (I think?) 340, which is also weird.
I don't get it. Ilvls all over the place on DoL/H gear and the stats don't seem to totally line up with the ilvls.
New Primal Ex fight is one of the better ones that they've put together. It's not that long, mechanics are quick and interesting enough to move through. Good work design team.
