I think the first game I'm going to fire up will be EarthBound, because of course I need to play through this game for the 5000th time. :P
I played it for the first time when it was released on Wii U, but I only ended up playing it for a couple of hours (I stopped just after getting the third party member). I really need to give it another shot.
That would be quite a bit more than a couple hours you played. :P
You have to get through Onett, Twoson, the Happy Happy Village, and part of Threed before getting Jeff. See! You liked it so much you don't realize how much you played! :P
Maybe it's just me, but TRU prices seem about average around here.
On a related note, I miss when the stores looked like this.
Oh cool, that site has a full page add that pops up on my phone... (X).
Anyways we have a Geoffreys still, which I think is kind of a Toys R Us and a Babies R Us in one smaller store. It was added to the town pretty well after the heyday of the brand, and they never really seemed to have the same appeal of the bigger stores I remember going to as a kid. I don't think they exist anymore, but they never rebranded the store due to the cost.
I'll still be going by to see if i can snag an extra one next Friday, and regardless of the outcome, I'll be going right down the road to gamestop to get my preorder that morning.
Toys R Us confirms it will carry SNES Classic on launch day following bankruptcy report
Following Toys R Us’ announcement that it was filing for bankruptcy protection, the company has confirmed it will still carry Nintendo’s SNES Classic when it launches this month.
A representative from the company told Polygon the SNES Classic will be available when it launches Sept. 29 and the company isn’t expecting any delays in shipment. The representative said Toys R Us would have a limited supply of SNES Classic consoles.
“Stores will open at normal time and have limited inventory of the console, so we encourage customers to get in line before doors open on Friday morning for the chance to scoop up this hot item,” the rep said.

Oh, was there a rumor they are getting a ton? They're the one I'm gonna hit up since zero preorders and all.

Is TRU not doing a midnight launch? Getting up early is way worse than staying up late. Although in my specific case it gives me a bit of an advantage as I don't work normal 9-5 hours like most other people.

No they're not doing a midnight, they open at 10am near me too which I don't really consider early. Target on the other hand opens at 8am, so waking up around 6 to get to Target at 7 sounds like my plan.

This has been floating around, 100% salt grains:
It says 25k units total at launch across all TRUs. Minimum of 30 in stock, Maximum of 90, but averaging at 49 per store. Limit 1 per customer. Also expect to get hard pitched by something called Square Trade at the cashier.

Ah, sorry about that! I've honestly never known that site to have pop-ups that I can recall, not even when I went to get that link on my own phone. D=
That's very disappointing. =\
Toyark has some (but not all) of the same pictures in their own article. Again, sorry about that!

Rumor is Target's will be getting a minimum of 20 units each on launch:
None of the stores in my area have anything yet. Our next truck is due Tuesday.
Isn't it coming out on Friday? Or are you stalking the truck deliveries waiting to see when the boxes arrive hoping to figure out if your local store has them in the building?

I'm guessing Dirty works for one of the major chains carrying the Classic SNES and is checking store-wide inventory via the internal tracker.

Torn between going to Tots R Us or Target which are sure to have stock but are on everyone's radar, or head to Fred Meyer which isn't tracked by most nowinstock-likes and might be a dark horse.
I think your chances are better on a well-known release like the SNES. I know it was a long time ago, but I went to Wal-Mart for the Wii launch back in '06, and they were pretty organized with a ticket system and started ringing everyone up right after midnight. But if you show up at midnight for a random game release, it may or may not be on the shelf.
From this i infer you are also not aware of the A/SDGQ speedrun marathons?
Go check them out!
I know of them, but I generally don't like watching other people play video games. I spent a lot of my childhood doing that. I do watch the TASBot presentation though because as a programmer i appreciate the crazy shit they do.
So the shipments are rolling in. Now I'm only looking at stores in my area (Norfolk, VA), but I'm seeing a minimum of 40 units across 9 stores (and 2 that still don't have them). 2 of those stores creeped into the low 50s.

Is this a lot more than the NES had?

If I recall from my NES hunting, yes. This looks like 3-4x as much.

The NES Classic had, at best, maybe 6-10 per store. Some got like 3.

The phrase about a "totally retro 90's midnight launch party" hurts.
Also MWUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I have to now welcome you all 90's gamers to the "retro" club. Just stand next to the Atari and Apple ][ boxes.

If this is true, you can forget about all that stuff I said about 4 hrs early. You should be fine at 2 hrs.
