So, in light of the fact that the NES Classic is being reissued, are there any good compatible NES Advantage stick clones you folks know of and could recommend?
I haven't looked into this, but 8bitdo may be a good place to start for a device or something similar. They make some excellent controllers and adapters.

No gameplay, just showing the device and its UI, which looks awfully familiar.
As an aside, I've been playing through Terranigma and honestly, I'm pretty disappointed. I probably would've liked it better when I was younger when I forgave poor translations. It's certainly not the worst translation I've experienced, but I'm just not enjoying what many people consider a classic. Kinda felt the same way about Illusion of Gaia when I played it a month or two ago. I'm wondering how I'd feel about Soul Blazer these days, which I loved as a teen.
The problem with that design is that the screen and stick/buttons are too small, not to mention the form factor of having to use the thing on a table (probably at a certain height to boot). I imagine people will try it for 5 minutes for the novelty before saying "Yeah this is a pain in the ass, dig out the HDMI cable".
And even though there's a TV out port, now the entire thing just looks like an eyesore sticking out your TV.

I'll be curious to find out if it's as easily hackable as the NES/SNES Classic systems.
It honestly doesn't look any more awkward than the little mini arcade machines I had as a kid. And I loved those things.
But those were much simpler control schemes. They didn't have 4 tiny buttons that you need to be able to mash quickly/precisely. And Galaxian didn't require you to pull off precise HCF and Dragon Punch motions on the stick like, say, the Neo Geo fighters.
Edit: And I know you probably won't need to use them much in actual gameplay, but holy hell those little Select/Start buttons.
I would hope the controller built onto the neogeo mini would actually come off. Wouldn't be so bad in that case, since you'd then be able to use it a bit more like a normal controller.
I wonder how many controller ports are on the thing.

It is literally one of those things. It just happens to include 1) a buttload of fantastic Neo Geo games and 2) a way to play them on another screen.
It's an odd decision, but aside from the higher cost, it's superior to the novelty mini cabinet. Personally I hope they put out a mini AES (the Neo Geo home system is still one of the best looking consoles), though perhaps they wanted to do something to distinguish themselves from the crowd of NES Mini imitators, at least at first.
The store I work at just got it's first shipment of NES systems for the relaunch this month. I wonder if we'll ever see the NES and SNES on the shelf next to each other.

Well the aim is to cash in on that sweet sweet 90s nostalgia. Now while the majority of us had NES and/or SNES systems in our homes, most of us weren't rich enough for the Neo Geo console. For most people, I imagine the nostalgia of playing old school Neo Geo games is linked to that arcade experience.

Did they put them on the shelves, or are they waiting until the official release date?

It's a street dated item. So for now, they're in the back.

There are reports on the subreddits I follow that the NES Classics they have preordered from overseas have arrived.
They also report that these newer units do not currently work properly with hakchi due to having a different kernel, but Top Men are working on it.
It seems they may be using the SNES board, or a modified SNES board, and just need to figure out the signature. I guess some versions of hakchi do work?

Yeah, the odd part was merging them--at least to me, though it's not like this excludes a mini AES down the line.

I randomly went to the store today and stopped at Target. I decided to check out the electronics section as usual and was very surprised to see this:
I immediately went to the clerk and asked to get one. He kind of paused, then said "Sure!" When he saw them, he kind of got a wide-eyed look when he realized they were actually NES Classics and not SNES Classics. I said "Yeah, I don't think they're supposed to come out until next week." He said the system might not let me buy it, but we'd give it a shot.
It didn't work and I left without one.
My guess is the person who put them in the case thought they were the same thing as the SNES Classic.
The price label looks like it's for the SNES Classic (looks to be 4 characters), and it's $79.99, not the $59.99 MSRP of the NES Classic. Shame on them for giving you false hope.
Officially the unluckiest CCG player ever.

Yeah, that was my first tip off that they weren't supposed to be there. Usually there are SNES Classics in there. I figured it was worth a try, though!

Maybe they’re in Canada where it is $79.99?

I like that the clerk got wide eyed. You both turned into children on the spot.
Do you think Target will be best spot to get an NES Classic? When is the release date?
They had more SNES Classics at the Fenton, MO Best Buy last Thursday.
I believe the official release date is Friday, 06/29. My plan is to repeat what served me well with the SNES Classic: Get to my local store shortly after it opens on Friday and, if necessary, join the queue.

He also said something like "these things have a really high resale value" so I think he had other thoughts until I told him that they were re-releasing it. He also told me that I can call the day of release and ask them to hold one for me, but I am skeptical that would work out.
I'm hoping to to get there Friday morning and grab one. Maybe they'll have a controller too.
I wasn’t able to get an NES Classic last time (actually, I did find one but gave it to a more deserving person). Hopefully the scalpers aren’t as interested this time around.

I read a tweet yesterday that said it felt more like an analog stick from an Xbox controller than a proper arcade stick.

My thought is only people who look for stuff like this even know about it.
When I got my nes classic there were 5 people in line at walmart. SNES had 50, do who knows thiugh.
Gamestop isnt preordering for this time around.
