I hope so. I'd really like to get a hold of one for retail price. Have had quite a bit of fun with the SNES Classic. My original plan was to try to pick up the NES Classic during this re-release at the same place, but alas, that was a Toys R Us and is now an empty building.

I hope so too for the sake of anyone who still needs one. I was lucky and grabbed one when they got restocked (just before the "we aren't making any more" thing back in that Jan/Feb timeframe) but still always feel bad for people not being able to get one themselves.
Still, the NES Classic doesn't have Kung-Fu and Pro Wrestling.
Not yet it doesn't.

I'm seeing people on the miniNES reddit report that their local Walmarts have the NES Classic controllers available for sale, but can't sell the actual console yet.
Yeah, the NES Classic is a nifty gadget for the price, but without... augmentation... the game selection offers little longevity (to me at least). Also, horrible cord length.
Officially the unluckiest CCG player ever.

I actually saw at least one person on reddit say that the NES Classic's emulator has more input lag than the one used by Retroarch.
I wish they could update it so it had the rewind feature seen in the SNES Classic.
Couldn't you theoretically use it for both, since it's the same port?
Also, did anyone actually buy the controllers at Wal-Mart, or did they just see them on the shelf early? At Target, the controllers are street dated too.

The people on reddit reported being able to purchase the controllers without any issues.
Glad to hear about them being street dated at Target, though. Hopefully my local store will have them on Friday too.
Huh I've never used that feature. It's dramatically less useful than on the Disney Afternoon though. In that, it's on a trigger so you can pull it the second you fuck up. On the Classic, it's on the system itself, so unless it's on a desk right in front of you, you'll have to get up and hit it, at a crucial moment it might already be too late.

Or if you've modded it so that down + select functions as the reset button, it becomes very useful again!

Also, it rewinds up to 45 seconds I believe. So unless you're playing in another room you should be able to get to the button in time unless you're having a heart attack.

The linked article from earlier says it's on a per game basis. Which is pretty weird! Nintendo still has this "you'll play it the way we want because we know best" attitude, even with emulators.

I was about to say that's rubbish, but then I thought I'd actually check for myself. And yeah, most games record the last 45 seconds of gameplay, but the RPG's like Super Mario RPG and Earthbound record up to 5 minutes.
Weird!
Not that that's ever something someone would take advantage of. Honestly the whole system is a bit unwieldy. 99.9% of the time you're probably wanting to rewind 1 second back to redo whatever you were doing, and the system doesn't really accommodate that. You hit the rewind button and it goes to the start of the recorded block, and you can fast forward in blocks like a movie. But since you can only skip in 15 second chunks, it's never really easy to get to that last second you want.
It's still really darn handy to rewind that far back. But you can't exactly twitch cheat your way through Contra or Punch-Out with it and create what is basically a TAS speedrun. The best you can do is the tried and true save state abuse, but even that's a bit clunky. It's not as easy or instant as hitting the F4 key on your keyboard.
Overall it's not something I find terribly annoying. The entire system exists for one purpose: so you can cheat. And you can certainly cheat. Cheating is how I got through Contra, because fuck Contra. At the same time I can't get that worked up that much that said cheating isn't easier to do.

For what it's worth, you can even adjust the amount of time saved in a replay if you are using hakchi. I think it's a command line argument for each game. I've never messed with it because the default 45 seconds usually feels sufficient, although there were times when I could have used longer in certain games.

Yeah, the number at the end of the command line is how many frames are in each tick mark (which you can skip between with the L and R buttons). By default, it's 600 frames, or 10 seconds. You can make this as high as several minutes. I've used this to make my own autoplays.

Huh, so yesterday I connected my HDMI cable to my old PC which I don't use too often so we could play a version of Worms on Steam. When I switched it back to my SNES Classic, the display was suddenly a little different. Apparently I've been playing with some sort of overscan for the last...*checks calendar* 9 months? Anyway, it only affected the UI and not the actual SNES games, which now look like they're in a box in the middle of the screen due to a very small border (like 1 cm) above and below the game display.

So I want an NES Classic, but I don't want to have to fight anybody or any of that bullshit.
What are the odds I can just get one like a civil human being at a store or online?
If the distribution will be like the SNES Classic you will have to do some stalking online or by phone. But you should eventually get one in person I would think.

If it’s It it’s like the SNES Classic all you need to do is go to the store a little before it opens on Friday.
I like hunting these things so I'll try for one Friday even though I don't want one so if anyone has issues and I get one you're welcome to it. I don't scalp.

I can vouch for his awesomeness. He was the reason I managed to get a SNES near launch.
I'm hoping that I can get one after my time waiting at the DMV this Friday. At least my wife is hoping since she is the one who wants one badly. I'm also going to keep my eyes peeled for others here as well once I get mine.
Got the all clear to go into work late so going to try lining up at Best Buy as early as I can drag myself out of bed tomorrow.
I'm now planning on going to my local Target tomorrow morning, but I only intend to get there about 15 minutes before opening. This is my first-ever attempt to get one of these retro systems on launch day. I'm hoping enthusiasm for this thing is lower than the previous two releases.
It still kind of kills me that I was within a foot of one last Friday before being told by the guy that the system wouldn't let him sell it. All six NES Classics from the picture I took that day were no longer in the display case the next day, so I'm guessing he put them all in the back after I left.

Someone on reddit shared this image from their local Gamestop, and it's looking like getting a controller might be a pain if these are similar numbers everywhere else:

Dang, I never could get an official second controller and I kinda want one (I don't want to buy the garbo cheap 3rd party ones). I hope it's not that bad everywhere.

The SNES Classic doesn't have rewind. You're thinking of that Sega Genesis collection, maybe?
No, it definitely has a rewind feature with its save states. It saves about 45 seconds of gameplay.

I have no idea how that happened.
Yeah, I saw some at my local Walmart.

Nothing there about controllers, though.
I was originally planning on getting to my local Target a little early to pick one up, but who knows. Nice to see a second option.
Maybe this thing will be easier to find than a SNES Classic somehow?

I already have my SNES Classic with its two controllers. I just want my NES Classic to have two controllers as well.
