No way, im going through a revolver every 2 missions, If I dont purposely go out of my way for silver ore im constantly running out. I have enough for 1 extra gun on me, can barely make a new axe every few revolvers.
CorriganX on Steam and just about everywhere else.
Maybe I'm just lucky, but gun mats are not an issue for me. I've mainly been using big slow weapons too. Then again I also drop a full stack of 99 nuts and bolts almost every time I play.
Copper is easy, you get a lot of it. Silver is not as easy, because you're getting a lot of copper along with the silver. Malachite is worse because now you're still getting copper, silver, and malachite.
Copper weapons are good because when you're using them its lower level stuff. Silver weapons you're facing much larger hordes, firing your weapons a lot more. Malachite weapons you're facing 500-1000 kill waves, firing even more.

that's one of the things i'd like to take a look at as well.
compare the ammo usage, damage per round fired, and the durability of the weapon. maybe slower firing weapons are hit harder by the durability decay because on a per round of ammo basis, they are more efficient in the damage they deal.
as an example, there are semi auto assualts and semi auto snipers that use the same ammo, but the assault fires quicker, with less damage per round while the sniper is vice versa.
its significant if you can kill a zed with one round compared to 5 rounds, meaning you craft less ammo overall.
but do you get fucked in having to spend more time to find the mats for your weapon now?
also, that fucking sucks about lesser mats muddying the loot pools of higher mats.
its starting to be roadblock after roadblock with these guys...
mmm well i suppose one thing to note is that these values probably don't take into account piercing/aoe damage. Also, i think weapons have different headshot multipliers?
Still, you probably shouldn't have to hit 5+ enemies to get the same damage per durability value as other guns
what a happy day it is

Just tried a Shelter mission for the first time. I don't think I can do this with randoms. They kept building dumb shit and it screwed us.

I don't think Keen Eyes is working on my Outlander. How close do you have to be?

If you didn't know, you have to get the buff by hitting something with your pick 5 times. The buff shows up as sparkly things around your character, and a big green/purple mist around the loot. I think you have to be within one tile to see the mist. Note that some items less valuable than chests show up (toolboxes, ammo boxes, and higher end boxes).

Just got enough schematic XP to bring my workhorse gun to 10
It's not flashy, but goddamn if it isn't a swiss army knife
Do Homebase missions scale in difficulty based on number of players? The zombos got my Homebase 5 down to 50% and it was a bit dicey at times, but I was fighting alone. Wondering if it's because I was underprepared, or understaffed. I've spent a bit of cash so my hero and weapon are OP for my level but my traps suck.
I like how in the whole set of weapons there are weapons of the same type, but with different ammo; I found a sniper which uses shotgun ammo, I have this lovely pistol that uses light ammo (the same as most assault rifles) which eats through ammo because it shoots so many bullets so fast; and yesterday I got an assault rifle that shoots shotgun shells; so my soldier can basically use 3 assault rifles, all which use different ammo types, which is pretty cool
Also, I have a blue trap which has 3 times the reduced durabilty perk, so that results in almost 10 or more uses, which is nice.

Starting from Stonewood Storm Shield 5 you want to see that your party is set to public, so that others might drop in. You might also notice in chat that it is from SS5 that people are asking for help.
Also, if you're planning on doing a Storm Shield mission, feel free to check whether I'm online (Carolus-Billius on the PS4) and send me in invite, I'll be glad to help. And even levelling green traps up to lvl.10 might make a whole difference in damage output.
With 2 people you can actually fight in front of the traps, knowing that if anyone gets through they will get picked off by the traps. If you're all alone you really have to count on your traps.
Yeah, I did the last Stonewood (story) Storm Shield mission alone, which was a bit tricky. Probably mostly due to having a pretty shoddy central defence - just stuff I'd build onto from the beginning, with no real plan. I'd definitely recommend just one extra person for convenience at that point.
The first couple of Plankton ones aren't too bad, though.
Stuff like revolvers and bolt action snipers get SIGNIFICANTLY worse return on durability than fully automatic weapons.
That's interesting and might explain why I've only needed to craft about five guns for the entire week. When we were playing over the weekend I used the same gun for all three days, while my friends were going to through a handful over the same time frame.
And I'm already sitting n a small pile of silver for when (if?) I ever unlock the 2-star upgrade.
It has a map. Press 'up' on the dpad on consoles, and probably 'm' or 'tab' on PC?
Also, in case you don't know, please, please, please do your 45 minute scavenging in private games! But yeah, I think we get the need for speed for finding every weird, little thing possible.

Oh dear God how did I not know about up on the dpad?? Thank you!
I thought recycling weapons was supposed to give you a good amount of the crafting mats back? I leveled a green assault rifle schematic just to use for husk fodder. When I recycled it I only got 1 blasting powder but it takes 8 to make? That seems...shitty.
For the most part, though, the game does throw so much garbage at you.
My modus operandi has become:
loot everything until my bag is full
destroy all extra guns and melee weapons immediately
destroy all grey/green traps and all patrol wards
drop all common crafting materials past 1 full + 1 partial stack, excluding nuts & bolts
You can hear the jingle of a chest when you are about 1-2 tiles away from them. Need to see if there is an option to turn up sfx and turn down music and ambient noise.
Also, chests are 95 / 100 in attics or bassments.
If you hear the sound, start smashing walls and floors.
If it rumbles and growls while you are in the process of looting it, STOP.
it is a mimic and will wreck your shit without prior planning or a buddy.

Really though I think they need to do something about the dropped weapons; they should either have more durability, more damage, or some combination of both. Right now it seems like they're mostly "try this weapon out" at best or recycle fodder, in which case they might as well just drop as raw materials.
Unrelated, the Fortnite reddit is simultaneously hilarious and depressing. So many people bitching about the current state of the unfinished game and criticizing Epic for not having fixed all of these glaring issues in the two weeks since EA went live.
In city levels, I immediately scaffold to the top of the tallest buildings and use a sniper rifle scope to check out all the surrounding rooftops. Almost always spot 2 or 3 easy chests that way and simply ramp down to them and loot.

I'll always go for a mimic, unless it's in an absurdly confined space. It can flail around and whatnot, but that's why God invented small chunks of metal moving at 1400 m/s (but yeah, I actually like how things have visual/audio queues - that aspect of the game is very well polished).
Dirtyboy: The Bearcat shotgun is really solid (and very reasonable to craft when it comes to materials!); totally worth keeping one of those on hand for those 'gotta clean the wall' situations.
Mimics get easily beaten by knee high walls. See that shake? Well time to put up a little wall to jump behind once you open the chest. Bonus points if you are a ninja because then you can put up a full wall with a window in that takes more of a beating and you can double jump over it.
Or just be a soldier and bust out the gattling gun to mow him down with.
In that survey, I beat on the llama and progression system with a stick at every opportunity, When the stick broke, I crafted a new one to continue the process.
Black lives matter.

Just got this game. Added my name to the list. Down to play with any PAers!
I ran out of ammo in my second or third mission. Are there any other places to find nuts/bolts other than cars?
You can craft ammo at any time from the in-game crafting menu, or by simply holding down the reload key with whichever weapon equipped that you want ammo for.
EDIT: And you can find nuts n bolts from in just about any mechanical decorative object; machinery, parking meters, etc.

That's why I have a really hard time playing anything but Outlander.
but what if I miss a purple chest
yeah you always need those extra 30 crafting mats that you already have 2 and a half stacks of
OH OH and grey quality traps don;t forget those!
in short chests can eat my bean sprout
Oh dear God how did I not know about up on the dpad?? Thank you!
And so far I've only played private matches.
I got two rotating gizmos from a chest last night.
So, that was good.
Yeah, purple chests give good stuff.
