I am not at all interested in sleep-in-a-tent-poop-in-a-hole camping, but I am extremely interested in sleep-in-a-sweet-cabin-with-electricity-and-running-water camping. U.S. is obviously better for me, but depending on timing and circumstances, I would try my best to make a Canada PAX viable for me.
This is me - not necessarily concerned with living in a tent, but as long as wherever we'd end up going has a camp fire we can get drunk around, I'm down.
I like the idea that was floated around at some point to have whoever can't take a direct flight to Montreal stop by Ottawa then everybody there take a party bus over to here.
'specially if that's what we do next summer which is gonna be the no-travel time for me.
I need to look into passport requirements. The last time I visited Canada it wasn't a requirement, so that gives you an idea of how long it's been.
Realizing lately that I don't really trust or respect basically any of the moderators here. So, good luck with life, friends! Hit me up on Twitter @DesertLeviathan
So it currently looks like we have three separate ideas:
CanadaPAX (@Cello's thing), CruisePAX, and CampPAX.
We'd probably want to figure out the ideal time for each of those.
If you want to make CruisePAX affordable to the most people, you probably want to look at those cruises in the Caribbean and the gulf during hurricane season. Odds are there wouldn't be any problems, and the pricing isn't too bad for some of those when you consider that meals are included and whatnot.
Timing for CampPAX really depends on where you want to do it at. If it's going to be cabins in Texas or New Mexico, it needs to be within a couple of months of PAX South unless people are ok with being really hot. The further north you consider = more temperate time to work with. Also, after tooling around on sites for cabins and airbnb the other night, people might want to consider the airbnb thing more. There are a surprising number of listings that can handle 10+ people, and you seem to get more bang for your buck in some of those than with cabins. And there's something to be said for being within walking distance of restaurants/bars/fast food and not having to rely entirely on cooking and pb&j sandwiches.

Pretty sure you do. Those passport cards also work.
Noooooooooooooooooo! Not if you're flying. They're only good at land crossings and sea ports-of-entry. My mother-in-law got turned away from a flight to Canada because she only had a passport card with her.

So I don’t know how done we are with using the form, responses slowly trickle in but I don’t know how many people we have interested to compare against. But so far out of 10 votes we have had zero votes for CamPAX. Maybe I should have made it a stack rank instead of multiple choice. We’re also tied again for Canada vs. Cruise. Most of the time responses seem to be in the summer-September range, with two votes being for next year and not this one.
If we decide we’re done I can post the rest of the results as well.

Camping only really appeals to me if it's like
Going up into the woods when it's snowy and getting a cozy cabin and we just get WASTED and play boardgames

Yeah, I'm down for both honestly but a fair number of people don't already have a passport so maybe we can do Canada next year which would give plenty of people to get that sorted and not have to pay for a trip in a relatively short time.
Also, yeah I read the fees are going up like 10 bucks in April.
Oh, hey, I'm glad you bumped this thread. I live in a suburb of Chicago that is pretty large (about 150,000 people now). Every year around the 4th of July they have a 4 day festival called Ribfest with a lot of bbq vendors selling ribs, carnival rides and games for kids, and a big concert every night. They usually bring in 2-3 nights of singers or bands that were big 20-40 years ago, and 1-2 more recently popular country artists for the other night. For example, this year they have the Stray Cats and Melissa Etheridge headlining the first night and Steven Tyler (solo, not with Aerosmith) on the last night. And some country guys I've never heard of on the third night. They waited an extra couple of weeks to announce the final headliner though, and put their tickets on sale separately today.
When I saw who it was, I almost died laughing at the thought that they would be doing a concert in walking distance of my house. At Naperville Ribfest. And then I made sure to get tickets as soon as they went on sale.
It's no cruise, but we'll make due.

i mean it's really hard for me to see anything even aerosmith adjacent as not terrible but....tempting
I didn't mean to imply that the other artists were terrible - they've had plenty of older bands and singers that would be great to see live - just that it's really unusual for them to bring someone in who has had any recent hits, aside from country artists for some reason.
That said, one night of Ribfest is plenty for me and if I have to choose between solo Steven Tyler and Mr. Worldwide, well...

Ideally I'd love it if we were at an actual camp.

I'll probably wind up throwing together a CanadaPAX thread anyhow once I check in with a few folks
We can just schedule it around the cruise; this is mostly a selfish desire to have a cheaper holiday for once, so

You can absolutely run it in a Hooters that is like 50 feet away from a Margaritaville though.
