Taking photos of myself

So I wish to take some nice photos of myself, but unless I am holding the camera, or the camera is within arm's reach to take the photo, it always comes out blurry.

I want to take full body shots of myself with a ten second timer, is there any way to make it not come out unfocused?

It doesn't sound like your camera will focus after the timer starts, so take a poster and put it in the plane of where you are going to sit / stand. focus on that and then start the timer. Move to the poster, take it down and then stnad in that spot.

Not having a poster, or anything to hang a poster on, I decided to fiddle with my camera till I got something nice. It seems setting the focus to "infinity", with flash on (not automatic), did the trick. It's much sharper than the photos I was getting before.
