The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Maybe I'll swing by there again later this week. I don't have much longer in this town!
I wouldn't sweat it if it's a huge hassle, especially if you don't mind buying used off Discogs sight-unseen, because it looks like both of Scepter's LPs (CD version and vinyl version) can be had there at a reasonable price.
There is definitely something fun about finding something in a used CD store and being able to tell a little story about it.
Example: In 1994 or 1995 I remember picking up My Dying Bride's Turn Loose the Swans in a bargain bin at a used CD store within walking distance of my house. At that point I probably owned less than 50 CDs. I'd never heard the band before, but had remembered reading a positive review or two of it. At that point, the closest thing I had to gothic metal in my collection was some Type O Negative albums. Getting it for $5 was an absolute steal.

I would agree and awesome both to that if I could!!
I similarly lucked into my first Rotting Christ experience and found A Dead Poem at a local used CD shop, having absolutely never heard anything like that previously and knowing nothing about the band.
All this CoF talk just reminded me that I saw them play sometime in the late 90s (I think 98 or 99?) but all I really remember of the show was that I was trying to bootleg it on a mini-disc recorder and I kept messing with my microphone to try and get it in just the right spot and that they played with Nile. I am now wondering what album they were touring for. Anybody got any ideas?

Cruelty and the Beast came out in 1998 and was their full last album of the 1990s, so probably for that one.
Eh, it's cool to hear Alice Cooper keep at it, but Paranomal isn't terribly inspiring.
The new ProngZero Days is pretty interesting because they throw in little one-off djent or nu-bounce riffs but then they make it blend seamlessly into their thrash style. Very solid album actually, good songs on here like "Forced Into Tolerance", and a lot of variation.
I really like Prong's Cleansing but haven't really gotten into anything before or after that. I do like the song "Rude Awakening" off the album of the same name. Admittedly I've heard little to none of their recent output.
Bummer to hear about the Alice Cooper. I'll most likely still pick it up though. Sort of out of habit at this point. Even though I think the last 3 or 4 I've spun maybe twice each before reverting to the "classics" and my personal favorites. I actually really like those early 80s albums. They're weird and experimental. I would have dug more of that instead of the hair metal stuff starting with Constrictor. But if it wasn't for that stuff that revived his career who knows where he'd be today.
Been listening to some Kobra and the Lotus the last couple of days. This one seems pretty appropriate given Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington's untimely and desperately sad ends.

Force Fed is still my favorite, but I like most of their albums in their own way. But yeah, Force Fed is really raw and riff-driven sewer thrash and I absolutely love it.
And the new Chelsea Wolfe is sounding a lot like a doom metal album. Kurt Ballou is doing the mastering and there's some guest appearances from Aaron Turner and Troy Van Leeuwen.

Sun of the Sleepless - To the Elements - A little more good BM for you all. This one is very emotional, but given that this is a solo project from Schwadorf, one of the geniuses behind The Vision Bleak, and emotional evocation is clearly at his core as a musician, I suppose this should come as no surprise. Honestly I'm loving this one. Dis Pater suddenly has some serious competition for one-man BM of incredible quality and emotional resonance and this is probably my favorite BM record thus far this year. https://sun-of-the-sleepless.bandcamp.com/album/to-the-elements https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2R88ql2wUbs
Some others that may be of interest: Afterbirth - time Traveler's Dilemma - Fucking Br00tal SLAM ... yet with progressive elements? The production is way too brickwalled to do justice to what they are doing here, but you have Artificial Brain's Will Smith on vocals and this is one the most engaging slam albums I've heard in a while. No album 'tube, so visit the bandcamp: https://uniqueleaderrecords.bandcamp.com/album/the-time-travelers-dilemmaByzantine - Cicada Tree - Actually pretty good groove metal with prog elements. https://byzantine.bandcamp.com/album/the-cicada-treeIntegrity - Howling, For the Nightmare Shall Consume - Apparently this is metallic hardcore. It is a fusion work applying various techniques from various metal sub-genres to do something not immediately recognizable as hardcore, and yet also doesn't come across as what I would think of as metalcore either. Sorta meeting blackened thrash from another angle. https://integrity.bandcamp.com/album/howling-for-the-nightmare-shall-consume
If you like The Vision Bleak and Sun of the Sleepless, don't forget to check out his weird dark/Goth/folk/prog project Noekk which had a couple cool and strange albums.

Plus, Empyrium his poetic Dark Metal/neo-folk/neo-classical project, which along with The Vision Bleak are the highest selling bands on the Prophecy label and which shares all members of Noekk. https://empyrium.bandcamp.com/

OK now I'm taking a little diversion while doing some writing via Judas Priest'sTurbo and holy moly "Parental Guidance" is an odd duck in the discography huh

That song was pretty much written as a direct response to Tipper Gore and the whole PMRC thing. I think.

Also we walked uphill in the snow to listen to metal)

I'm not a huge fan of what I've heard of her none acoustic stuff. Even vaguely industrial stuff just does nothing for me.
A proper heavy doom album with her voice on it would be absolutely killer, hopefully there's more of this type on the full release.

Damn I totally forgot about Olden Domain. Putting on Tale of Pagan Tongue right now. Still rips.
e: also i've been out of paying attention to the metal scene hardcore for like 4 years now. I think Vektor is the last new band I got into lol.
Also, I have a hard time referring to him as Kristoffer Rygg. He'll always be Garm to me.
