I like the selection of netflix, but I fucking hate how they throttle your account. As a result, I'm constantly debtating whether or not I should just cancel it on principal, but alas, I still prefer them to Blockbuster.
Anyway, you can cancel on the web like right after signing up, and I think you get continue the month.

basically if you are what they consider a "heavy user", movies start to magically take longer to ship back and forth from the warehouse

You know how when you send a dvd back, your next one comes in like, 2 or 3 days tops?
The heavier users (like myself) find themselves "throttled" and have our movies take as long as 5-7 days to arrive, and we get lower priority on brand new rentals.
Essentially the idea is to give the casual user a better experience all the time in order to keep them happy, because people like me are less likely to cancel.
Which is true.
And I hate them for it.
That's shitty as hell.
I hope that doesn't start happening to me. There was a pretty length stretch of time in which I forgot I had a DVD sitting in my house (which is also something they probably relish), but now I send them back after a couple of days.
My roommate has blockbuster, and right now we're receiving movie sin whatever order they feel like sending them to us.

i actually would end up with extra movies sometimes
plus i could drop them off at the local bb and they would ship my new ones right away and the ones you dropped off counted as coupons for free rentals

No, but they have foreign stuff that never got actual US releases.

As for "throttling", I rented about 20 Blu-rays in that first free month (this Jan), and at least 10-15 in the next month, and they never slowed down at all, 1-2 days tops. But maybe it takes longer than that to get on their shit list?
