Who If you read this you are invited. Where : Transport at Federation Square When: 7:00 pm, Thursday 26th October but check twitter, we will tweet where we go. Map:Heres a map Twitter:#paxbeer so you can find us as the night progresses.
Traditionally this has been a very safe and friendly meet up of a bunch of like minded peeps.
Gamers of all walks of life having a brewski or two and just hanging out.
Come on down and meet some people if you're on your own at Pax this year!
Its super weird when you see them wandering round looking lost a day or two later.
Just look for the nerdy T-shirts. badges, handheld games and beards.
Itinerary:
7:00 - 8:30 - Transport (Fed Square) as its nice and central to public transport.
8:30 - An unnamed drinking establishment, let the peeps decide.
9:30 - bartronica !!! it is awesome you will love it.
All welcome, post here and let us know if you are coming.
I was late last time and missed everyone mostly, So this year I'm planning on going so long as work doesn't roster me on that day... XD

Random suggestion, but the 26th is the day Thor Ragnarok comes out. If anyone cares to, want to try and catch a showing after drinks?
Personally I won't already have plans to see it but others might. Though they might not want to plan it. Just see how everyone feels on the night. Might split in to 2 groups or something
All indications seem to be that i'll be available for the entire thing this time around!

Nice one, the more the merrier. Really surprising how quick this has swung round again. After 5 years my wife is now conditioned to understand and accept my 4 night absence once a year.
I confirmed with work tonight that I will indeed be free after 5pm for Pre-Pax shenanigans!
Seriously looking forward to meeting you lot and others!

Yeah, it's great, really good to see new interest.
Given view stats only a small proportion of pax attendees actually check out the forums.
I should go through the last 4 years threads and chuck out some mentions to previous units, unless of course any of you repeat offenders want a job.. *nudge *nudge
Technically it would be feasible to write a script.. (That's a challenge).
I've been to a couple PAXes but have only ever played boardgames with friends on the Thursday night before - considering coming along to this and maybe trying to get some karaoke going later in the evening.
@feralmaster Is it ok If I bring along a friend whose not on the forums but will also be attending PAX Aus?

@User2006 should be more than fine. We have in the past.
Recommendations for a bar at some point by the way that's new: https://www.ggezbar.com/
It's a video game sports bar that opened in the last month. I'm not sure about you guys but the drinks at bartronica were a bit of a dampener, and I'm still sad they turned off the arcade mid spree for.... Fuzzypredator?
I should be in! My fave one was my first one I think, we seemed to have 30+ people bar walking the southbank river? Was crazy(good)

Get enough drinks in me you won't be able to stop me from singing lol

There are so many gaming bars now. Depends how far out you want to head and what atmosphere you're looking for.
But there's places like Holey Moley (http://www.holeymoley.com.au) if you want something a bit different or places like Asian Beer Cafe (http://asianbeercafe.com.au) if you just want a pub.
Again, depends on what kind of night y'all want
GG Easy may be worth a look, good proximity. We did do the Asian beer cafe one year, don't remember a heck of a lot about that one though. Such a pity the Beta Bar moved to Glenferrie.
Anyone care to share previous stories? Might be helpful for previous attendees to let people coming for the first time what to expect. In short, a fun, casual walk around to one or a few places. I think my fondest one may have been the first PAX in exhibition centre? We had a big group and stopped off at multiple places like EB games and other ones and it was pretty natural (and lastest well until 4am which was crazy long)

Yes I learnt my lesson from that one, didn't surface until midday on the Friday, at least there was no queue to get in.
There was the year, possibly the first where we went to the little red pocket on little Collins st, it had tables outside and was super chilled had some great convos with gamer IT dudes.
There was one year a guy brought along his android VR app he was developing to get feedback, that was cool.
I remember a DOTA vs LOL discussion; meeting some exhibitors, recognising some enforcers and my first time at bartronica and thinking how cool is this I am definitely bringing people here.
I have only been to one pre=pax drinks with this group and that was last year. Was very relaxed, all met at Transport, managed to find the group by spotting a pax shirt, had a couple of drinks before we headed off to Bartronica. It was busy in there, caused a couple of people to leave early cause of the crowd but the rest of us that stayed sat mainly outside occasionally going in for a drink or a game. The talking continued and was great to just make friends. Very relaxed and we all have at least one thing in common so we tend to be able to find something to talk to everyone about.
I went to last year's drinkies. Was good. Nothing spectacular but that is what PAX is for LOL! Besides, I am not really a drinker so I was a bit out of place.
I am considering going to this year's too, but we will see.

I'm coming for the first time and shall be solo- so hopefully I'll be able to fly in early enough to come along and meet some peoples!
Seriously looking forward to meeting you lot and others!
I'll definitely be there. Sounds like a great way to meet some new people

@UseR2006 there are no specified prerequisites other than possibly an active interest in socialising..
There are so many gaming bars now. Depends how far out you want to head and what atmosphere you're looking for.
Here's a little list (not everything that's around by far!):
Bartronica (http://www.bartronica.com/) is an arcade style bar
GGEZ (https://www.ggezbar.com/) is an ESports bar
Pinball Paradise (http://pinballparadise.com.au/) is a pinball and whisky bar
Bar SK (http://barsk.com.au/) is a bar/exhibition space in Collingwood
VArcade (http://varcade.com.au/) is a VR space in Brunswick
Alchemists Refuge in Games Lab (http://www.alchemistsrefuge.com.au/) is more a chill boardgames space
And Queen of Spades (http://queenofspadesbar.com/) is a boardgame cafe/lounge but they've just opened up so I don't know much about them.
But there's places like Holey Moley (http://www.holeymoley.com.au) if you want something a bit different or places like Asian Beer Cafe (http://asianbeercafe.com.au) if you just want a pub.

If that's not us then we gotta go elsewhere :bigfrown:
http://mbgcafe.com.au
Does look like a cool place but not a lot of drinks variety
