    No, just like, another Sora.

I've also been playing a bunch of Kingdom Hearts 2 and it's astounding how well this holds up. I am playing the...remix? so it's probably a slightly cleaner experience than if I were to just go back and play the PS2 version again, but I'm having a bunch of fun with it. There are a couple things that don't work, like Port Royale and Agrabah, and Atlantica is awful but overall it's been a lot of fun to revisit. I'm gonna take a swing at finishing the notebook by Tuesday, just so I can maybe burn myself out on the franchise before the new game comes out

Dumbness on my part after a long drawn out battle with xemnas with a friend
we get to parts where you are laser domed. This being the last part of the fight and just a mash the buttons to not die and end the fight. The problem is that was thinking those quick time events where you just mash triangle. so i am mashing triangle and then die wondering why maybe not mashing hard enough? after a good 5 tries getting to this sequence excluding all the times we died on the way to get to this sequence and I finally saw the X button is also block. ugh and it was easy and it ended.

    Kingdom Hearts 2!

Favorite: Theres a ton to like here, but the peak is the 1000 heartless scenario at Hollow Bastion, complete with FF teamups, an Organization fight, a bizarre death sequence, and just pure scale that hasn't been matched anywhere else.

Least favorite: Atlantica just didn't work for me, and there was a bit of an over reliance on reaction commands.

I just don't know why we couldn't have had a regular Atlantica like the first game. I really don't understand the problem with the combat. One button makes you go up, one button makes you go down, but just hitting attack zooms you in towards your closest locked on target at such a range that you don't even have to bother with using square or circle to reach most enemies.

okay, I just watched like three hours of recap videos, and I'm going to try and break down the entire KH plotline as I know it

someone chime in to correct me, please
so, this dude the Master of Masters prophesized that this Kingdom Hearts dealie, which is some sort of power source, would bring about the end of the world, and in trying to prevent that end of the world his five apprentices end up destroying it via the Keyblade War, which also involved the x-blade being shattered into twenty pieces, seven of light and thirteen of darkness, the x-blade being the key to controlling Kingdom Hearts. this also led to Kingdom Hearts being sealed in the realm of darkness due to everyone dying in the Keyblade War

later this dude named Xehanort becomes a Keyblade Master but becomes obsessed with darkness, and eventually resolves to reforge the x-blade to control Kingdom Hearts and restore the proper balance between the light and the darkness. he goes through this in a few ways, the order of which I'm not clear on, but: he studies the Heartless under Ansem the Wise and eventually turns himself into a Heartless (Ansem) and a Nobody (Xemnas), creates some other Nobodies and has Xemnas start gathering Nobodies to form the pieces of darkness through Organization XIII. he also gets involved in three different Keyblade wielder's lives, Ventas, Terra and Aqua, and by messing with them he a) gets Ventas to confront the dark version of himself and temporarily reforge the x-blade, but Ventas sacrifices himself to stop that, briefly coming into contact with Sora's newborn heart which explains why Roxas looks like Ventas. Aqua takes his comatose body and creates Castle Oblivion from their old destroyed world and leaves him in there, and he's presumably still there as of KH3. Terra ends up possessed by Xehanort and fights Aqua, and while Aqua defeats Terra-Xehanort she ends up in the realm of darkness for her troubles. Ansem the Wise is also there and I don't know how he gets out. Terra-Xehanort is still possessed by Xehanort and I lost track of where he is right now, but he's got a bit of control back. Xehanort ALSO taught himself time travel for reasons I'll loop back to in a sec. Mickey also saw Xehanort do all this bad shit and resolved to stop him, which is also probably where he ran off to at the start of KH1

in the process of Ventas, Terra and Aqua doing their thing, they pass on the ability to wield the Keyblade to Riku, Sora and Kairi, who end up on the Destiny Islands one way or another. Kairi's also a princess of light but I don't really care about that right now.

KH1 happens, Sora and Riku and Kairi get separated, Kairi's heart ends up in Sora's for a bit, Ansem (i.e. Xehanort's Heartless) possesses Riku and together they try and open the door to the realm of darkness/Kingdom Hearts. Sora briefly kills himself to free Kairi from his heart, which creates Roxas who I'll get to later, and Kairi's body being temporarily vacant creates Namine, who I'll also get to later. Sora kills Ansem, Riku and Mickey close the door to Kingdom Hearts and are stuck in the realm of darkness.

CoM: Sora, while searching for Riku, ends up in Castle Oblivion and meets Organization XIII who have a bunch of other motivations beyond just reforming the pieces of the x-blade, they all fight each other, Sora finds Namine who is messing with his memories, she says "my bad" and seals him away to restore his memories. at the same time, Roxas and (I guess?) Xion are formed, and they don't really know why they're there until they figure out they're both manifestations of Sora's memories. the Organization wants Roxas around as the 13th Nobody, and...I have no clue why they want Xion, actually. Xion ends up getting re-absorbed into Sora, as does Roxas eventually, which leads us to KH2. in the meantime Riku and Mickey are fighting the darkness, Riku gets over being emo and also puts Roxas into a coma so he can rejoin Sora's consciousness, and starts working with some guy named DiZ to fight Organization XIII.

KH2: Sora wakes up, Organization XIII wants to kill him for reasons I don't really understand, Sora and Riku find each other, it turns out that DiZ is Ansem the Wise who has been working with Mickey to take down Xemnas, who has created an artifical Kingdom Hearts. Riku and Sora kill Xemnas, and Organization XIII as we know it is basically done. they end up back on the Destiny Islands but then get the call to go become Keyblade Masters, which takes us to DDD.

DDD: Riku and Sora go take their Mastery exams, but Sora gets his ass knocked out in the process. it's revealed that Xehanort has reformed Organization XIII by travelling around time and talking to thirteen different versions of himself so they can become the vessels of darkness and reform the x-blade, and Xehanort also wants to use Sora as the last vessel for...reasons. they temporarily defeat Xehanort, Riku gets his Keyblade Mastery and Sora doesn't really care, and Kairi's revealed to be the next keyblade wielder. this leads us into KH3, which will presumably be about finding the seven vessels of light to fight Xehanort's new version of Organization XIII, which totally won't end up with a reforged x-blade, nuh-uh, no sir

    umm

okay I just figured out something
Terra-Xehanort lost his memory after Xehanort possessed him and THEN he ended up with Ansem the Wise which is why he has to keep researching the Heartless even though theoretically he should know about it already

    uh

so does that mean Terra-Xehanort's dead?

Pretty sure the whole 'I lost my memory!' thing was a ruse the whole time, and he was just using/guiding Ansem to learn more about the darkness and Kingdom Hearts

Just for consistency sake, here is what release order I'm using for the next 3 days:

    358/2 days
    Recoded
    Birth by Sleep

Since Coded was a game never released here and 358/2 days was released before Recoded was ported to DS.

i don’t think it was a ruse at all. Braig speculates, but I’m pretty sure he’s wrong each time.

We saw the events that led to Terranort being who he was. Xehanort used the Keyblade to lock his own heart, to keep Terra from breaking free. That seems to have temporarily kept both Terra and Xehanort out of control of the body, leaving it with no clear memory.

The big reason I think the amnesia was real is because of Xemnas and “Ansem”’s actions. Xemnas hates Ansem. He stole his name because he felt he was being held back. He tells Mickey that he abandoned the name “Xehanort”, corrected Braig as to what his name is just before they all became Nobodies, and he has all these grand words to say to Ansem about his failures.

I done think Master Xehanort, with all his memories, would care so much about Ansem. He certainly didn’t feel like correcting anyone about his name in DDD, for instance. But a new identity, with slight traits taken from Terra (desire to succeed, frustration at his master) and Xehanort (arrogance, desire to control the darkness), but lacking their memories? I can see Xemnas growing from that.

Which means that I think the Apprentice Xehanort identity is dead now, as Master Xehanort has taken full control again.

    umm

    what did I miss
okay. be warned i may get things wrong but my interpretation is as follow some of the info is rather old as i haven't gone back to many of the game in many years.
. master of master has the book of prophesy. that the world going into darkness and the way it will happen is that traitor among them will cause the world to fall to darkness. Not kingdom hearts itself. it was an idea floated by one of the fortellers was that if they summon kingdom hearts the master of masters would come back. the keyblade war comes to blow cause there is only so much lux in the world and people get consumed by who is the traitor. each side want to gather it to out do the other and so people break into faction and the war happens and the X-blade is destroyed into 7 princesses of hearts and 13 shards of darkness. kingdom hearts is still in that sky covered by clouds i recall. the other kingdom hearts in KH1 and KH2 are psuedo kingdom hearts as they are a kingdom hearts but not THE one true kingdom hearts.

story hooks that may show up:
luxu one of the apprentice of the master of masters maybe around some where but the keyblade that he weilds is currently wielded by xehanort, which is said to contain the master of masters eye. Master of masters also had luxu place a box that contains something in desert somewhere.

    BBS
Xehanort i recall became obsessed with kingdom hearts. he wants it to be summoned and stuff. he messes with the ven, aqua and terra. the ansem (heartless ) and xemnas (nobody) come later once he loses his memory and in transported to radiant garden. there he under the tutelage of ansem the wise. finds out about darkness and he want to go to the deep end with it. ansem says stop and terranort banishes him to the shadow realm. then they do a suicide party, cause why not. then terranort becomes ansem seeker of darkness (heartless) and xemnas.

story hooks that may show up:
Ven is indeed in castle oblivion in the room of waking. aqua's armor is located in the room of repose where xehanort talk to it for some reason. Ven's hearts is currently inside sora's body. Aqua is in the shadow realm. terra's heart is is still in terranorts body and eraqus has trick up his sleeve or something. Also terra's armor is still animated.

KH1 happens ansem seeker of darkness (heartless) want to get a kingdom hearts that is the hearts of all worlds by gather the 7 princess of heart though he opens the doorway to darkness. get killed by direct beam of light as there is some yin in that yang.
story hooks that may show up:
pretty much has been fleshed out and there doesn't seem to be any mysteries to solve here

KHCOM/ 358/2 days recoded turns out being a nobody sucks. and the suicide pack was not the best thing ever. so the plan is just gather all the hearts of man to make a psuedo kingdom hearts and ask that kingdom hearts to make them whole again. how much you believe that versus xemnas had other plans for kingdom hearts is up to you. marluxia's plan is make sora a puppet and seize control of organization 13 as you need a keyblade weilder to make their kingdom hearts. Roxas formed when sora stabbed himself and is sora's nobody. xion came later as sora climbed castle oblivion and they stole his memories and shove them into xion. the idea is that xion is a fail safe should roxas not work out as their obedient puppet xion, a literal puppet, will absorb his power and become their key blade wielder.

story hooks that may show up:
Xion is some where in sora.
namine places data in the journal to be found. "Their hurting will be mended when you return and end it" them being terra aqua ventus xion roxas namine. ansem the wise shoved some data into there as well. sora is just a shared archive drive where people are like i might need this one day.

KH2 Organization XIII doesn't want to kill him but make him kill heartless to fill up their psuedo kingdom hearts.
story hooks that may show up:
roxas is located in sora. namine is in kairi which still weird me.
shadow ansem is still in riku though we think he can control it now.

    DDD
story hooks that may show up:
mickey is gathering protectors for the 7 princesses of heart and kairi can weild a keyblade and protect herself. axel and alot of the organization 13 are now normal people with variable allegiances. axel joined the good guys and can weild a keyblade cause you don't even need to have the damn ceremony anymore. braig formally known as xigbar and isa formally known as siax are now possibly xehnanorts. as the plan now is xehanort to horcrux everyone to make the 13 darknesses to clash with 7 lights to summon kingdom hearts. Riku and mickey is sent to get aqua. sora is sent to get a box and delivers it and say the contents are a secret. Sora need to level up because getting almost norted means you need to start all over again.

    It is.

Well, parts of it are good. The whole character progression system is very good. The big downsides are that they reuse zones and mission types way way too often. Lots of the missions end up feeling like busywork to stretch the game out.

Then there are things like the stealth missions that really really need to GDIAF.

    Kingdom Hearts 2

Favorite: The Sark/MCP boss fight was hella fun.

Also have to mention the mystery of trying to figure out what is going on with Roxas in the beginning of the game when you only (maybe) had KH I and CoM as a lore reference in 2006.

Then the game logo hits you.

    THEN the game begins...

Least Fav: Atlantica, but not the rhythm game part (I actually enjoyed Part of your World and Under the Sea). No, it was the fact you had to visit the area 5 separate times (or once if you wait till the very end of the game) to proceed with the story and finish the world's journal. Pretty darn annoying.

Nomura did a Famitsu interview in which he (according to translators) says

    - Probably some free DLC, and possibly one big paid expansion that would serve as a Final Mix for the game
    - Once they do that, KH3 is done, no more ongoing support, onto a new project
    - He reiterates that 3 is the end of this "saga" of Kingdom Hearts
    - They're now going to "reconsider" worldwide launches after the leak

He also told how you unlock the secret movie:
There are hidden Mickey Mouse symbols in the game, and you need to take a certain number of pictures of them to unlock the movie, on Beginner you have to find them all, and the harder the difficulty the less you have to find

    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

I am now more excited for this game than ever.

This is all I ask for in games like this.

One of my biggest fears about the game has been assuaged.

For those not aware, ‘hidden mickeys’ are a very real thing. Whenever they build an area or attraction at any of the parks or resorts, there are ALWAYA hidden mickeys scattered around, as a fun game to see if you can find them all.

The fact that this now applies to KH is a fun little stroke of genius’
