Gotta say, it may be bloated as fuck, but since they optimized it I can set it to 'all the graphics!' and damn. Walking through the redwoods on a misty morning, godrays shining through the trees, it's fucking gorgeous.

Before following any advice, opinions, or thoughts I may have expressed in the above post, be warned: I found Keven Costners "Waterworld" to be a very entertaining film.

Guys, the booth at PAX has dinosaurs to ride

    This is starting from scratch.
I am thinking I might add some basic metal tools for sale in the marketplace though, so that people can speed things up a little bit.
Fyi with ragnarok, there are crates that spawn that have metal items and weapons in them. You don't open them, you smack them with a pick.

Regarding taming speed, the taming sedative mod is your friend. It gives you a way to speed up the hunger on all the standard (non-passive) tames to speed things along. You can spam them to add hunger to the target. I highly recommend it even in single player, as its a balanced way to tame. The annoying part is passive taming still sucks.
I still wish the devs had never bumped the dino level past 30. The default values are stupid dumb for stuff like taming otherwise.

Shit. One of the youtubes I watch started playing the full release on the Ragnarok map and now i'm starting to feel the itch again. There's a bunch of new stuff murdering them. And what the heck are these feathery little assholes who steal things and laugh over their shoulder at you as they run off?

E: Ah here we go, with them getting chain-killed by a raptor and a sabertooth upon respawn. Urge dying.

So, I know Mudd is interested in the next DLC, but does that mean we're going to run a Rag server alongside an Aberration server on the cluster? Or is that going to be an instance like we did with SE where everyone starts fresh there for the full experience? It certainly shakes up the original plan.

Random thought: All this talk of sliders has me wondering if there's a server setting somewhere to make bosses, well, not shit? Or at least, not basically impossible for adults with realistic expectations of their gaming. I understand there's basically no making the fights fun because they're oriented around hordes of rexes/yutis and little else. But it might be nice for people looking for those cheevos and trophies and whatnot. I will alter this post if it has been gone over and I missed it.

Single Player Mode is supposed to have some impact, and I remember a recent change log involved a huge (like 60%?) nerf to boss health in low population encounters. I mean, it's still a dino grinder, there's no toe to toe with them unless you crank all your stat-up sliders to ten or something.

Problem is, all the sliders that impact bosses also impact wild and tamed dinos, so weakening them that way also weakens your dinos and it cancels out until you bring them down to your level, at which point rexes may as well be dodos for all the threat they pose. And cranking up your own power to take them on also affects everything else, not juts combat either, melee damage increases how much you get per swing harvesting, so you start shattering giant rocks with one tap.

As far as I can tell, there's not a mod to do it for you, either.

Technically, each boss is a class of creature, which means I can specifically alter how much damage they do, and how much damage they receive.

Or rather, in this case, the Shaman will assist the Island spirits in helping the survivors fight bosses.

Like I said in the last thread, I have all sorts of tricks up my sleeve for weekend boosts.

Just as a note, my attendance in this insanity will be spotty at least until after October 31st, as that's our moving deadline. Seeing as we don't know where we're moving to, and that we have an entire apartment to pack with a child present, I'll be around when I can. I'd prefer to share a base again, probably with Budd as that arrangement seems to work pretty well.

I might build myself a cottage, or I might come and share. I can't play a lot, so we'll have to see. I liked my cottage that I built last time. It was handy being close to Beorn so I could mooch off of him too.

Well @f3rret I'm totally not gonna sink a bunch of time in and build an oversized base, no sir. No chance of that at all. Just enough room for a few pterras and griffins, gathering dinos, some allos/rexes for security, a pig to heal them, a quetzal for transport, and if I get some eggs a few wyverns...

Hmmm. I might need to rethink things ;)

The only suggestions I have regarding building locations:
    • Skip building in the murder snow unless you hate fun and like maxing fort + fur armor or want a really hard challange. To be clear people have died flying over this region on a pterra because they took too much cold damage. I mean it can get down to -60 C there.
    • Highlands are pretty and have a nice resource
      sheep!
      but beware of
      gigas!
    • Beaches are usually not to bad except for thief birds and the rexes/alllos that will eventually wander down to them.
    • oh building near the volcano should be exciting and probably not the best call either.

I see you've taken my posts re: Ragnarok adventures to heart!

Highlands are probably the best location on the map for big sprawling bases, and have a valley nearby good for setting up wyvern and griffin taming/tranqing cages. But yeah gigas are a very very real threat and will fuck your shit sideways if you breathe in their direction. That said, it is a very, very noob friendly area outside of the random giga attack.

Edit: I have been contemplating a murder-snow cabin, I've seen it done since I first found out about it the hard way and started doing some research. A lot of times people will make a heated Paracer van heated by fireplaces and use it as a warming station as they sprint out to the snow to build as fast as they can, until they can place a couple of fireplaces in the interior space of the building and get them all lit.

I thought about a murder-snow cabin. The best answer is to use ac units and lots of them. That way you just need gas (which should be easy by then) to fuel a generator rather than spawning in and feeding a grove of trees into the fireplaces. I'd be totally fine with building the Village of Hoth with cabins for all the crazy people that don't know better than to steer clear of the murder snow.

I wouldn't advise a big base in the highlands for most players unless they know what they are doing since they stand a good chance of getting wrecked unless they build their base correctly. I think the raised plateaus north of the haunted castle are much safer for a huge base.

Back from my trip. Here's some updates.

I believe I've sorted all the mod settings, although I still need to test to make sure some of the overrides are working.

Construction has begun on the marketplace, should have at least a functional version up by Friday. I can pretty it up afterwards.

Cluster settings seem to be working as expected now.

My cottage base will probably be somewhere pretty, and only accessible by air. Last time I was on a mountaintop, I'm pretty sure I was even safe from Gigas up there. I only had a few dinos, they might have been in eating range down below, though.

We're still aiming for Friday? I'll get to downloading if that's the case.

A thing I should point out. Gigas only spawn in the highlands (where the sheep are), and nowhere else.

There are a lot of neat places up high around the waterfall basin, or there are some plateaus near the Castle Ruins that also look good to build on.

The Market will have a teleporter set to public (thanks to the 'Awesome Teleporters' mod), and once the desert unlocks I will be building a Bazaar there as well, with another public pad.

I am also thinking of putting some next to each of the obelisks. Thoughts?

My biggest conundrum with a ragnarok server is there's so many places I want build my main base. Pirate Cave, hidden waterfall cave, murder snow frozen lake, underwater cave, water entrance to the superdark swamp cave, etc.

Short version, it means we're a self-contained set of servers. Can't bring anything in from single player or other servers. But, you will be able to travel between our servers freely. So once the Ascension server is up, for example, you could take your Ragnarok character and travel over, and not lose ownership of any of the stuff on Ragnarok.

I'll post a bit more once it's actually a thing. The only thing to know right now is that anything uploaded to the Obelisk won't be downloadable anywhere but our cluster. Right now that's just the Ragnarok server.

Technically, there is also a time limit on uploads, but I've tweaked that so stuff doesn't expire for roughly 8700 hours. So stuff in the Obs lasts a year.

So i'm reinstalling right now, because Giant Bomb is playing it at the moment (With no foreknowledge, on a pvp server. Expectations are low for their success)

Will I need all the maps or what? I'm not planning on doing any research as to their layouts or anything.

I'll have a map up in one of the first few posts before Friday.

Ragnarok is pretty good at each area feeling unique, so if you navigate by landmark, you shouldn't have much trouble.

Yeah ragnarok has some pretty builds sites. I build a base on a private server overlooking the beaver lake and it was a really nice view. Only risk was all the alpha rexes spawning in the swamp by the castle. I think thats the biggest issue with Rag, too many nice building spots!
