This is a Zapata Western and it's crazy and Marxist as fuck

Lyrics (and English translation) below, sing along!

Levantando en aire los sombreros
-Lifting our sombreros up in the air
Vamos a matar, vamos a matar, compañeros !
-Let's go and kill (twice), compañeros !
Pintaremos de rojo sol y cielos
-We'll paint sun and sky in red
Vamos a matar, vamos a matar, compañeros !
-Let's go and kill, compañeros !
Hay que ganar muriendo, pistoleros
-You must win dying, pistoleros
Vamos a matar, vamos a matar, compañeros !
-Let's go and kill, compañeros !
Hay que morir venciendo, guerrilleros
-You must die triumphant, guerilleros
Vamos a matar, vamos a matar, compañeros !
-Let's go and kill, compañeros !
Luchando con el hambre, sin dineros
-Fighting while hungry, without money
Vamos a matar, vamos a matar, compañeros !
-Let's go and kill, compañeros !
Estudiantes, rebeldes, bandoleros
-Students, rebels, bandoleros
Vamos a matar, vamos a matar, compañeros !
-Let's go and kill, compañeros !
Hermanos somos reyes y obreros
-We are brothers, kings and workmen
Vamos a matar, vamos a matar, compañeros !
-Let's go and kill, compañeros !

tycho's shirt was a different color in the last panel than the second, is it meant to be faded because it's a flashback? there's no other indication of lighting I saw

What I like about hanging out with my mom is during the day she can be a bit of a pain with all of her suggestions

But in the evening when she's had a few glasses of wine she's absolutely delightful because she'll talk about anything and the more wine there is, the more it's ultimately about hyper-liberalism and how much she's done with men

And being sober in the company of that is just thoroughly enjoyable

I hold that the Raine Dog kissing strips are worse than Loss.

At least the creator did go on to make the nice newspaper comic strip Phoebe and Her Unicorn.

Sure those are worse visually, but when you find out that Buckley's ex went through a miscarriage and he put out loss, holy shit.

The far right is useful to capitalists as a hedge against socialism, which is always more threatening to the interests of capital than fascism. So they get a free pass on a lot of stuff.

The ruling class is deeply invested in the idea that society can't function without hierarchy. It's how they justify their position to themselves - they're at the top not because of luck or accident of birth but because they deserve to be there, and it follows that all the people at the bottom deserve to suffer. Fascism argues the same thing, but more explicitly. Rich and powerful people are sometimes scared away by how explicit it is, because they don't want to have to confront the implications of their own philosophy, but they're never going to be as staunchly opposed to it as it should be. Socialism challenges hierarchy, which means it challenges the interests of the ruling class in a way that fascism doesn't, so they're always going to be tempted to pick the wrong side.

Just about all Zapata Westerns are Marxist stories based on class struggle.

I've had the acronym ACAB stuck in my head since I first heard about it (All Cops Are Bastards), largely because it bothers me because I don't believe it to be true

But I'm thinking about politicians, and I'm wondering if maybe we replace the C with a P?

And then, you know, overthrow the state

Whenever y'all are ready, I know it takes time to prepare

Might boot up the SEGA classics collection I got on Steam and play some Gain Ground.

Gain Ground had poor graphics even by the era but it had some deep gameplay. I loved how every character was different and each screen could be approached like a puzzle.

This is always one of those spaces where it makes such a beautifully literary sense, one that appeals to my bad brain that is susceptible to staring at cool pattern gifs for thirty minutes, which makes me suspicious enough where I think it's GOT to have some other component to it. But I suspect that you're ultimately right.

Not all cops are bastards but there are enough systemic problems with policing in the United States that no cops can be trusted.

    @Jacobkosh @Atomika @Bogart

So I saw Logan Lucky tonight. And if Ocean's 11 is about the stylishness of the heist film, Logan Lucky is about the subversion of expectations with it.

On the way home I was thinking about how the film is filled with lots of little misdirects. Even with thing that aren't directly tied to the heist. Like when Jimmy Logan is meeting with his ex the first time. That scene implies a potentially acrimonious future between divorced parents but in the end it's a misdirect. When we get to the end and the daughter starts singing her father's favorite song, it's supposed to lead us down the path of sentiment and draw the conclusion that he's reformed. Even the ending is a damn misdirect that they have gotten away with it.
