I didn't play Destiny or do any betas but I'm seriously considering this when it drops for PC. I like the idea of an FPS MMO that's not Warframe.
Is that a good decision? I won't know any story and I haven't played a Bungie game in a decade, but it looks cool and it sounds like there's a decent clan arrangement here?
Apparently I missed the period of Destiny where you could choose your own strikes and play them with modifiers outside of the weekly heroic/nightfall
You could choose your own strikes and replay specific missions using the director in Destiny 1. That functionality is gone now. Though you can replay certain missions after the campaign, but it appears to be gated. because the best way to keep content fresh is to gate the ever living hell out of it. :hydra:
edit: also you can't buy the faction uncommon npc shaders directly? this system...

If you're interested in the story, here's a 15-minute primer on things going on in Destiny 1. There's also a 90-minute video somewhere with even more detail.

Plot: Bananapants 10 pounds of crap in a 5 pound sack. Like, I accept I am more negative on it than most, but I don't think anyone is going to say "well my gosh that was some great writing there". It's not why you're here.
Universe/fluff: Pretty good! If you like digging into things like Warframe does it, where there's little lore bits scattered around, you're in for a total treat; look into the D1 grimoire cards. I lost hours and hours just digging through the Book of Sorrows.
Mechanics: It is likely to be the single best shooter you ever play. It is 100% amazing. I can only speak to controller/console, but it is just great.
Summary: Recommend! Just stock up on headache pills and an intoxicant to get yourself through the campaign.
Edit: Oh, and visually it's a treat. Same with the sound design. Every single weapon feels/sounds different and satisfying, and the enemies are on the whole just great. You'll love the first serious Hive encounter you run into.
I think I mentioned it but I'm in love with the soundtrack. And this track has been on a loop in my head since lunch. So beautiful and touching. https://youtu.be/zYfe9caNqfA
Anyone up for the Nightfall on PSN? I'm on the clan waitlist, PSN name is Foolish_Chaos. I haven't done it yet
I'll be on for a couple hours!

Just did the nightfall with Dire and his rl friend. Had some rocky attempts but we kept getting better and better, eventually it all clicked and we murdered it with a couple minutes to go. It was a real good time.
So what is the estimated LL of the Raid? And what is the 'required' LL that all the tryhards and elitists are going to mandate?
I was assuming it would be 280 minimum and progressively scale to 300 as the raid progressed, but knowing that current max is 350 has me kinda baffled.

Are they releasing the regular and heroic version at the same time? Normal up to 300 and Heroic up to 350?
So I made myself wait for reviews, and they all pretty much said "Like D1 but better except for a couple minor annoying things" so I took the plunge and bought it on Xbox. It's downloading now, whom do I need to speak to about joining the Xbox clan?
Plot commentary that does not spoil, but may start a fight:
The plot is... Pants-on-head does not do it justice. It has displaced Wolfenstein as "the most offensively dumb thing I have ever seen" (I did not think this possible), and it is, so far, the most generic shooterplot I have ever encountered, and I am pretty sure it's COD-level of idiotic. It is bad. Bad bad bad. The intro nearly made me delete it, and the only reason I didn't is you can't get a refund anyway, so I may as well keep going. All mystery or originality has been filed off, replaced with bog-standard villain scenery chewing and monologuing, and they even included a tribe of noble savage refugees. Every single "someone blogged about this being novel" feature from the last 10 years has been included, such as "walk walk cutscene walk walk cutscene no you can't run lol", the really annoying bit from the end of ME3, and so on and so forth. I have just gotten to the farm thing, I hate the farm thing, and the cutscenes have been so, so bad so far that I can only imagine how I'll feel by the end of this "gloriously cinematic" abortion of what someone spewed into their sophomore-year trapper keeper. I expect I will have to be nearly paralytic on some combination of intoxicants to deal with all the Chosen One bullshit I'm given to understand is coming.
That said, it's REALLY FUCKING PRETTY, mechanically feels pretty damn good, and the sound/visual design is just great. The new jump/mantle mechanic was startling at first, but feels pretty good, if a little touchy re: angle of approach to a ledge. I think if you ignore as much as possible of the actual story, it'll be pretty good. Also, you can shut up all the vendors by just hitting B to exit, which is fucking glorious, because I just do not care about your feelings, Cryptarch 2.0. Do. Not.
Like, seriously, the Fallen are just great now. Holy crap, like... Wow, that is such an upgrade. The Captains!
I'm sorry, what?
Noble savages? What the fuck are you talking about?
I was literally met by a face-painted wanderer with a falcon on her arm that I was following from my visions. Like... It could only have been more so with horses.
Uh, dude. Surana is from the City,
and that vision came from the big friendly SpaceBallGod. She's a cool lady with a falcon,
That's it.
If anything she's a libertarian who believes in nebulous freedom. Honestly her world view while outside the city was bolstered by the city being there, if not for the walls she hated more people like her would not have made it.
True, I'm more speaking in context of her being a "noble savage". I mean, shit, a lot of folks are running around in facepaint.
In non-high level news I finished off everything there was to do on Earth and did the first mission on Titan. Level 8 currently, got my first Exotic (chest armor) and it talks about infusing stuff into it to raise it's level but I'm not gonna bother with even figuring out what that means until after I beat the story and hit 20.
Story is actually not bad so far. There are characters who talk and want stuff and even explain why they want you to do things.
I think I mentioned it but I'm in love with the soundtrack. And this track has been on a loop in my head since lunch. So beautiful and touching. https://youtu.be/zYfe9caNqfA
There are parts of this song that strongly resemble parts of Legend of Korra's soundtrack to me. Around 0:45 in reminds me of the end theme.
I'm finally in this game! My PSN is dodgeblan now! It used to be gaderen! I have played this game for many hours with many of you! Add me! How do I get in the clan? Does anyone want to play crucible RIGHT now with my level 2 hunter being controlled by someone who hasn't played an FPS in 2 years?

That is truly hideous. I would certainly be terrified if you ran at me with a sword.

Like Warlock's Void stuff being weird skulls and shit I could get, but nothing about that fits the Sentinel class whatsoever

Like, give me a page with all my daily challenges listed somewhere so I can prep before I go do the thing.
Are there other types I should horde?
But it feels like there's a bonus to exotic engram drop rate once per day for public events or something
I'm pretty consistently getting one exotic engram a day
i love how they stop dropping once you get those kinds of quests
they know what they do
I suppose I should go get mida soon.

I understand there's a whole mmo-style endgame here but I think I'm going to miss nearly every drop being an upgrade most of the time.

You get to experience that into the post-game until your LL is around 260.

So I should hang on to a scout rifle?
I have to check. I could have sworn I just dismantled the one I had been using for a few levels.
edit: nvm. I literally have three of them. Although so far they are my favorite type of gun.
You get a quest for leveling up a weapon and one of the steps is dismantling 5 scout rifles. Blues are good enough.

It's just that true to form I've been stuck at 4/5 scouts all day because the game knows! /spinfoil hat

I'm amazed you've gotten to such a high light level already. It's pretty bonkers.
Destiny community is dedicated, that was never in question, but sometimes the proof is staggering.
