hoo boy that film and 40 was so good. By the end of it Abby is full on drunk and the very last thing she says on the commentary is maybe the funniest thing to happen in the history of giantbomb. holy cow lol

Ah man, now I have to track down a copy of National Treasure.
Because I OBVIOUSLY can't just listen to the podcast itself, after all.

It’s streaming on Netflix.
Shit. Guess I know what I"m doing for the rest of the evening.
Oh man, they really don't like Sea of Thieves. Watching this Quick Look I can see why. Graphics aside this could honestly be a mobile game, and they want $60 for it?!
Are skeletons seriously the only enemy?
The water looks amazing though. That is some good water.
All the enemies seem to be skeletons, sharks, snakes, and other people.
The only other thing I was really seeing were environmental hazards like storms. Speaking of which, the storms in that game and the huge crashing waves look awesome too.
Really that game has the potential to be amazing and is only being held back by a lack of compelling content, which will hopefully get addressed?!
Maybe? From what was said during development they were just letting testers mess about with the game and seeing where the fun lay. If they've hit release and not really found it yet then I'm not sure I have high hopes post-release. Just adding some more enemy types or mission types won't do much if the core loop gets dull after a few hours.
I think it was the beastcast that kinda touched on it - but all the stuff they could add to make your character progress (gun that holds bigger ammo for example), would also make it less fun for lower level characters fighting off overpowered pirates.
And no way this late in the game are they going to do mmo style zones - so I don't know how they could address any of those issues they had with the game
They need much greater NPC enemy variety, more ship variety, way more mission variety and an actual system on top of the PVP that gives it some structure. The PVP system itself could be fleshed out with progression so you're not just killing people because you're bored (you can't even tell if someone has anything worth stealing, so how can you target someone worthwhile and not newbies) but because you're working towards a goal, you could have bounties placed on higher ranked PVP players that encouraged other PVPers to go after them, with stuff like unique flags you unlock to decorate your ship with... there's so much stuff you can do, the question is, will they.
Also, I can't easily tell, but the non-ship combat doesn't really look very entertaining.

Yeah, I'm kinda with you.
But what if they introduced a new mode that was , I dunno . . . maybe a big multiplayer thing. Like you take 100 pirates and launch them out of cannons onto a single island to do battle perhaps.
Did they do any PvP in the quick look? It didn't look like it and to me that's the absolute meat of the game. Other than sailing the boat being pretty fun.
The number of times I heard Giant Bomb utter the phrase "emergent gameplay" in regards to Sea of Thieves makes me really hate that phrase.
Number One Tricky

I completely tuned out of Sea of Thieves coverage almost as soon as it was first shown at E3 or wherever out of disinterest, but yeah, "emergent gameplay" has been kind of an eye-rolling phrase for me for a while now.

Where Alex mentions Jon Turteltaub and drunk Abby and drunk Dan can't stop talking about Tom Turtletop the Dr. Seuss character is fucking killing me

I think the plan is they're each picking a Cage movie and cycling through them.
An Abby Quicklook.
Does Dan explain why he pronounces it that way, given that I have never heard anyone on the show or in real life say it like that?

Dan came in embracing/feigning ignorance, so we never give him the benefit of the doubt.

Every time he says that wrong all I can think of is this from 2011:
Law and Order ≠ Justice
ACNH Island Isla Cero: DA-3082-2045-4142
Still waiting on Dan "Man of his Word" Ryckert to eat a hat
Apparently a LOT of mistake recovery.
I think playing on Easy is more of a factor than being unable to save scum.

this is the best and worst thing i've ever seen in my life.
