where did you see blasted with led light at night?
Because that goes against them having two sensors on there that work absent any light...
Oh didn't someone in chat suggest they were using an illuminator? I misread then.
Regardless, I like illuminators because fuck putting a second sensor on my stuff; it gets expensive and I'm not apple! And simulating ir data is harder than simulating eo data so algorithm development can be harder if you have both. Plus ir can get different features more strongly.
there are four sensors on there working together for face ID.
apple is crazy.
Stuff like this makes me want to work for apple or the sort of company that gets bought out by them. But...no, that would be more intense than what I want from my work life. Cool shit though.

Wasn't there an animated Star Wars in theaters? From the commercials, it had Jabba the Hutt's son farting a lot.
Yeah. It's pretty much just a long episode of the Clone Wars cartoon.
Microsoft skipped 9 because of its similarity to Windows 9x.
I remain convinced that was a myth
that shit is decided by marketing
I mean yes it's true that if some moron was checking the friendly OS name for "Windows 9*" it would cause problems but like
who the fuck is checking to make sure you're not on a completely different kernel from nearly two decades ago
and clearly their software sucks because they're doing that wrong in the first place
It's a good fun myth though. I can see there being a lot of weird legacy stuff they didn't want to have to deal with. Or being unsure of even what kind of legacy stuff existed.

It would break a lot of ancient games.
I have probably 4-5 games that barf because of it when it checks for the NT kernel and finds it on XP. Even though it should work without a problem.
But yes it was most likely a 70% marketing 30% technical decision

My understanding was that having "Windows 9" in places within the operating system could be interpreted in a ton of place, especially legacy applications, as Windows 95 or 98 and shit would break. They took the marketing opportunity, but there was a technical reason to do it. It wasn't just to escape the specter of the past.
can you feel the struggle within?

Are you saying you're surprised that software developers aren't thinking of the future? Cause...
I'm saying that even MS's obsession with backwards compat isn't strong enough for this to be the reason.
The programs that would trip up on that would already be incredibly archaic (think like, things designed to run in the early XP days) and programmed in the stupidest way. Like I would suspect they already wouldn't be running on NT6.3/10 boxes, just from code drift, much less a OS name string.

If I could believe it would last for a good number of years before I felt it was obsolete and not much greater than a $300 phone, but there is like a 99% chance it won't do that.

There is a lot of SME level business critical software in the windows ecosystem written by one-man-band developers that hasn't been supported or updated in decades.

The cutaway of the front shows a "Flood illuminator" and an IR camera, but no IR illuminator.
It's a good fun myth though. I can see there being a lot of weird legacy stuff they didn't want to have to deal with. Or being unsure of even what kind of legacy stuff existed.
And Windows 10 sounds better anyways.

NOPE
Gonna start being an old man about this shit
Moving back to the PNW and moving on to my farm with some goats and chickens and becoming a recluse
The dot projector is IR and I believe the flood illuminator is both.
But enough about zack Snyder
Microsoft's passive-aggressive phase
With their unpopular slogan "Where the hell do you think you're going?"
its fine.
They will have a phone that costs less than half of that, the 8 series, and the X series.
Its like a car manufacturer making a 20k, 40k and 100k car.
Serving different markets.
Let's play Mario Kart or something...
MS has more or less said 10 is the last version of Windows
they're shifting to the Apple model of feature updates once or twice a year. But they're never doing a complete OS change again
If it was, immediately hard kill and stop install.
It would not surprise me if a ton of them check for "Windows 9#" for 95/98/ME (ME still identified itself as 98 IIRC).
