    "Like hell we're not."

Reminds me of one other time Malachi made a face that disgusted:

    Man in the Mists

As much as I want to fault Malachi, group work is the worst. It's like herding cats.

In college, I saved my marketing group's ass, because no one believed me that our surveys for focus groups were due, but I finished them up and brought them to class. "Oh no, Brian, we're just supposed to work on them." "Yeah, they're not due." "You're crazy."
If only people would do what I tell them to. *sigh*

i'm relating to Malachi in an astral level so much right now...

@seab: Would you say that, too, if Neiman had a physical disability instead of his mental one?

  • kram1032kram1032 Registered User regular
    Actually, Neiman is not wrong.

  • briguybriguy Registered User regular
He's definitely controlling and obsessed with being the best at everything.
I could see Neiman's attraction to that. A certain camaraderie.
Then Malachi spurned Neiman. Then his obsession went to a darker place. Well, darker than an obsession already is. And he became freaky stalker that tried to murder the trio or at least Seventeen and Brian. I'm not sure he wanted to kill Malachi with the tree considering he later saved him from the cliff.
But who knows with his warped logic?

Even with all of that, I still feel bad for him. He's just a little kid and how could you hate those beady, little eyes?

  • tabletable Registered User regular
So all this time, Neiman just wanted someone who was like him and would understand. And he thought Malachi was that person. Poor Mal, so many people (including himself) expecting so much of him. (His reaction is priceless though)

I really hope these two will have a better understanding of each other by the end of this. Still worried about how they're stuck in the main office though.

    Regarding Neiman's obsession:

"If you step on my foot, you need to get off my foot.

"If you step on my foot without meaning to, you need to get off my foot.

"If you step on my foot without realizing it, you need to get off my foot.

"If everyone in your culture steps on feet, your culture is horrible, and you need to get off my foot.

"If you have foot-stepping disease, and it makes you unaware you’re stepping on feet, you need to get off my foot. If an event has rules designed to keep people from stepping on feet, you need to follow them. If you think that even with the rules, you won’t be able to avoid stepping on people’s feet, absent yourself from the event until you work something out.

"If you’re a serial foot-stepper, and you feel you’re entitled to step on people’s feet because you’re just that awesome and they’re not really people anyway, you’re a bad person and you don’t get to use any of those excuses, limited as they are. And moreover, you need to get off my foot."

Get off of Malachi's foot, Neiman.

    Well, I do know why!

Because Malachi's parents want him to be and do what they want.

@Jreynolds I love this... Sums up my world view very neatly and I'm totally stealing it...

Last panel is brilliant. Actually they're all great. But that last panel saved it from getting really dark. Teetering on the edge of the cliff there and this grabbed the shirtcollar and yanked it back. <3

Neiman thinks that just because him and Malachi both have "obsessions" that they are perfect for each other! It's the "Not So Different" trope played with-though just because the teacher used the same word that was used for him that they are equal even if that's not quite true. Malachi's just bossy because it's how his mother raised him and Neiman.....just becomes fixated. To the point of stealing. I think with Neiman it's something neurological/mental health stuff. And of course Malachi is so repulsed by the idea of him and his stalker being alike in any way.

But yeah, I never cared for the word "obsessed." People have used it in a not-so positive way to describe my strong emotions. :/

I feel like Finn Wolfhard would play a perfect Malachi in a live action movie of Camp Weedonwantcha.
