The story in Assassin's Creed: Rogue isn't really hooking me and the AC4-style gameplay is definitely wearing out its welcome for me at this point. I definitely won't be doing a lot of the side stuff here.
I think playing as a Templar is the thing that really drove me in Rogue. While having some interesting bits, it did not hook me as much as Black Flag. Still solid enough though. But yes, ignored a lot of side activities other than getting gear upgrades.

I was looking forward to the Templar thing, but his whole motivation for switching sides just seems...rushed, I guess?

It's still just playing an Assassin who switches sides so sadly not a real Templar game IMO.
Still, Shay makes it pretty clear that the Assassins are up to some shady shit.
I've been going through a psycho trip for the past 4 hours... still not done yet, but this game's presentation is 100% Grade A beef. The gameplay could've used a few tweaks, as it is repetitive and frustrating at times, but the idea is executed very very well. Crazy good.

Me and my friend played payday 2 for the first time and boy did we suck.
This was the first time in years since I played Payday 1, and I had completely forgotten how we were supposed to do the bank heist without triggering the police.
In the end we just shot up the place.
It was only afterwards that I checked a youtube video on how others play that I remembered you're supposed to lure the security guards somewhere out of sight and knock them out.
Next time we play I'm going to have to try this out.
Yeah, pulling a mission off in stealth and grabbing all the loot is a great feeling, but on more difficult missions you'll end up screwing it up somewhere and then you're all dressed for stealth and not for a shootout.
Still loads of fun, but yeah I gave up on stealthing levels--well when I played a long time ago.
I think that's why the Hotline Miami missions, all loud and great music.
Edit: Woo! I suspected I was unlocking a card from Hand of Fate 1, but it was so satisfying to see an old friend in Platinum card glory!

According to this post, it appears that @destroyah87 and @KoopaTroopa are finally breaking down. Someone needs to gift them a text patch update so they can continue their gift bot bombing ways.

Just finished. Not bad, I think the story is about as good as it could be without throwing in some M Night twists in there. The gameplay definitely grinds you down, it's exhaustive. Which could be argued that it's for story purposes, but I thought it was super repetitive. 'Boss' fights were cool, and the puzzle aspects were good, but I was physically groaning by the end whenever I saw a 'rune door' and mob fight after mob fight after mob fight... I think some variation in the gameplay could have benefit the game a ton.
Gameplay aside, the thing is a masterpiece. The concept and themes are super interesting, and executed flawlessly. Graphics look gorgeous, the sound is creepily spectacular, and you can't find better performances than from the main girl and the voice cast. I enjoyed it very much, but like most of the others here it's definitely a one and done type of experience. I don't even care that I missed 10-15 runes.
Overall it's a great experience, but a very repetitive game. Thank you @destroyah87 <33
Oh and it is also Sir Carcass Liberation Day! Happy Sir Carcass Liberation Day, @Sir Carcass and all Steam thread denizens!! May your train DLC always be purchased on purpose!
I ... didn't find Hellblade to be unbearably repetitive. The fighting mechanics were so fluid and fun, especially after discovering some of the "hidden" combo moves, that I had fun throughout murderkilling all the vikings ever.

I've been playing Wolfenstein New Colossus on PS4 since my computer didn't get along with it very well.
Still real good stuff. It goes pretty dark, but still rises to the occassion for when it wants to go over the top action.
I'm guessing I don't have a whole lot left before the final missions, but I'm probably going to let myself get sidetracked with some of the collectible scavenging in the mode that has you revist previous areas.

Yeah, that's what I did before the final mission.
If the last cutscene you saw was
a party
then the next mission is pretty much the final one in the game. After the game ends you can still go back and do side missions, though.

Yeah, also watching the Making of Documentary after playing made their design decisions much clearer.
Now more Hand of Fate 2 news (yes I'm a broken record!): went back to a beaten challenge that I knew would repeat encounters in order to finish some side quests and successfully did all three! That puts me at 19.6 hours played and I've only finished like 3 challenges since my last recommendation...this is going to easily hit the 1 dollar to 1 hour gametime at this rate. That doesn't even include the endless mode they're going to add some day.

Personally, when I tried Hellblade, the rune thing ended up with me nursing a headache. As it turns out, squinting really hard for long periods of time at your monitor is bad.
I kinda think I made the right decision in not buying it. The presentation seemed quite great, but I don't think I'd have enjoyed it much. Instead the money went to get myself Etrian Odyssey V.

Not meant to be a criticism but were you just looking all the time? Because there is sort of an aura of each rune when you're near where you can find it so you don't need to be peering all over.
Still yeah I can understand not everyone enjoying Hellblade.
I've made an executive decision to flake on evening plans I was not loving and hadn't committed to in the first place. Anyone got any multiplayer games they would like to play?
I could run some Tabletop sim, play Secret Hitler or Letters from Whitechapel.
Or other games would be fun too, if others has suggestions.
Excellent. he'll get to see how far $100-$150 goes during a Steam sale.
My God, man, you're instantly going to give him a backlog complex.
We both have one already. Last game I played on Steam was Hacknet waaaay back at the beginning of the year. College takes up a lot of valuable free time. He bounces between games so fast I can't even keep up.

A freebie is always nice, right? Even nicer when it's something fairly spendy that's already on your wishlist and has been for a while. Well, I just got a notification that the built-in eye tracker in my laptop entitled me to a free game, from a choice of a few. A couple I already had, a couple were uninteresting, and one was a Uplay code instead of Steam (I know, gift horses, mouths, etc).
But one of the choices stood out above all the others - Shadow Tactics! Blimey! Thanks, Tobii dudes!
