Fuck me in the ass, I'm beginning to like it.
Deathnote is a manga about a man who get a notebook that, if written in, could kill people.
I know, I had the same reaction.
No, it's not the Necronomicon.
It's the notebook of a death-god, given to them for an inexplicable reason. If you write the name of someone in it, they will die in the way that you describe (if you don't describe it, the person will have a heart attack). Light, the young man who gained the book, plans on killing off all the evil-doers in order to frighten everyone else into not doing bad. Egads, it doesn't work out, and Interpol sends L, the worlds greatest detective, to stop him.
Anyways, its the book that all of my female weaboo friends love, and I figured 'hell, why not'. Halfway into #1 I hated it. At the end of #1 I thought it'd get better.
I've now read 3 volumes, and it's become a sick pleasure, that I hate myself for liking. It's like a Game of Thrones, or watching American Idol.

I don't know why it has to be a sick pleasure. It's not like all things manga are shit. The first several volumes of Death Note were awesome and ended up being pretty much the only manga series I followed. The quality definitely plummets at around the 6th volume, and especially a bit later
The entire thing is pulled off very well, but the series pretty much becomes uninteresting after that.
Anime-loving-gaymo.
The first half of it, anyway.
It's two separate words, AFAIK.
Not the way they spell it on the front cover.
Real gay or stupid gay?
Is there man love in Death Note?
Japanese doesn't even have, like, spaces between its words remember.
It's like, you say "Hey man I sure love Inuyasha."
And I say. "Fag."
you'd be a weaboo there.
I'm less likely to check it out knowing it's not a gay detective thriller, but I probably will anyway.
Dunno, I really liked it. The tone definitely took a turn for the surreal, but it's still pretty fun if that change doesn't get to you.
Which I suppose I could understand, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. It feels incredibly dragged out, a bit forced, and certainly lacks the intense pace that characterized the first arc.
Well, just get up to around the 8th-9th volume, then pretend the rest don't exist. The anime isn't bad, either, though it hasn't ended yet.
Also, have you seen the 2nd anime opening for Death Note? If not, you should.
Heh. The second opening really fits the tone the second half of the series took.
Does Ningen mean Fruit?
I want it to.
Btw the anime is fucking fantastic. It's the only anime I watch.

"Ningen" means "human being." Fruit would be "kudamono."
Well, that's Satoshi Kon, he's good at making spooky stuff like that. His latest movie, Paprika is just great.

Haha, well that totally killed any interest I ever had in Death Note. Thanks for the warning.
