Is there a consensus on shorthand for these upgraded weapons? Upgraded Light Breath+ is a bit of a mouthful, so I'm fairly inclined to just refer to upgraded weapons as something like "Light Breath(SPD)+", with the descriptor in parenthesis denoting both that the weapon is the upgraded form and which upgrade bonus is in use. Although another part of me wants to call them WEAPON++
I'm just paralyzed when it comes to spending resources on these weapon upgrades. I know for a fact that I want to upgrade my Ninian's weapon (+ATK/-RES IV's). She's just my primary dancer for teams in general and not a Dragon Emblem team.
Light/Dark Breath++ are the new hotness, but I don't get her in combat right now that often, so I'd be missing out on the buffs. It would however be a definitive boost to her firepower even if I opt for a +SPEED enhancement.
Lightning breath++ would be a minor increase in firepower over my current position if I take the +ATK variant, or a minor -1 downgrade in firepower if I take the +SPEED variant. The distant counter effect would open up the door to baiting and killing red mages on the enemy turn. However the delay to special skills would ruin the quickened pulse moonbow that usually lets her hit pretty hard for the on average one attack that she might make in a match. Honestly that delayed moonbow makes me more hesitant towards lightning breath than the reduced attack...
edit:
If I had access to flametongue, I'd probably just use that.
Weapon ++ A/S/D/R/Sp for ATK/SPD/DEF/RES/Special upgrade choice works for me

I've seen some people talking about Dark Breath + Distant Counter for Corrin and honestly I'm considering it.
Anyway, yesterday I was at 75 orbs spent and 5 5-stars obtained, and today I've spent 37 orbs and gotten a 6th 5-star, Deidre! Now I'm considering going after blues instead of greens, just to see if I can grab Caeda. I'm still hunting for more Kleins and/or Genny, though.

This is so weird. So I guess there are two summoning focus banners, similar to how Ayra was done. But it looks like Rhajat's has Tharja, Faye and Prescilla as the other three, so at least not a green spoiler. Still.. weird. Must be a Tempest Trial coming...
(Also maybe it's me but the power creep seems much lesser here)
Edit: Oh, someone on Reddit said that's the Enduring Love voting gauntlet? Kind of odd...

What. WHAAAAAAT. Another 3-person banner instead of putting them all on there? Good god, I know the Ayra situation made everyone worried about setting precedents, but I wasn't expecting them to do literally the same thing again.
The power creep is not reduced, Siegbert, Soleil and Shiro all have the additional stats we've come to expect and Siegbert's weapon is better than Yato. Weapon refinery somewhat closes the gap at least.
E: ~200 orbs wasted. Hm. I may be done with this game, I feel like a sucker and an idiot.

I was going to come in here and complain about trying to snipe greens and getting no green orbs, but i can't compete with that. Yikes.
For business reasons, I must preserve the outward sign of sanity.

What. WHAAAAAAT. Another 3-person banner instead of putting them all on there? Good god, I know the Ayra situation made everyone worried about setting precedents, but I wasn't expecting them to do literally the same thing again.
A major part of the outrage was that they never featured Ayra in the video or anywhere else, making it seem like she was a TT or hero battle unit, then dropped her banner on us as a surprise after everyone should have spent their orbs on the genealogy banner already.
They specifically introduce her after the Fates banner to let everyone watching know that she is coming on another banner.
Having only three focus units on a banner is actually preferable if you are targeting one in particular, so splitting them isn't bad, the important thing was letting us know ahead of time that a new unit is on a banner and not just surprise us when we're tapped out.
Yeah, 3 person banners are great. They significantly boost the odds of you pulling your desired focus unit.
The Ayra outrage was mainly about them breaking precedent on how they released her. She wasn't featured in the video, and that followed the pattern of units that were released as tempest trial or hero battle rewards. Then she appeared with no warning on a banner. Up until then all banner pullable units were announced in a video prior to release.

Well Ayra was in a story chapter just like Rhajat is. If the Ayra situation hadn't happened and Rhajat were stronger, people might think she was gonna be a Grand Hero Battle- Oh wait, haha. I didn't watch the trailer all the way through. I tapped out after they showed the banner because that's where they usually end.

That and the fact that she shared a color with Eldigan which meant you had a good chance of pulling a pity breaker instead of her.

The odds were, iirc, still better than if she was on a four-person banner as the only red?

Of course, after the new weapon refinery details were released everyone was like "Ayra was the pity breaker for Eldigan."
in the case of weapons that get an added bonus. like say eldrigin and his fury upgrade. do all the other versions get that upgrade as well or do they only get the stat shifts?
Got my second Deirdre from this banner and third overall. Dangit Hector, where are you! Needs me some DC!
Pick your poison on IVs:
A) +Spd/-Atk (currently built) +Res/-Def
C) +Res/-Spd
My idea is to merge A into B, to have the neutral Speed and Attack. Best Bane in Def and really good baiting Boon in Resistance. Then I will use C to give Arvis or someone Speed Ploy. Seems like best option.

Ugh, none of those kids on the next banner seem particularly intriguing. I don't know whether I want to spend my orbs from the December quests on Hector/Ike/Arya on the Fjorm banner, Brave Ike on the Heroes banner, or Mia on the Farfetched banner. Or I could save them up, but that'd be boring. ;-)
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it. ~ Terry Pratchett
Siegbert looked intriguing with Attack Tactics in his C slot.
I didn't mean to suggest they aren't good, but just the character designs along with no new mechanics (though I agree, that buff is pretty nice) don't really appeal to me.
Edit: Well, decided to go for Mia, ended up with an Eirika (second one). Ok then?

I don't think that I'll be investing heavily either on the children banner. I've had bad experiences getting what I want from red's bloated pool (although there are a lot of good candidates for skill inheritance within that pool, so rolling red has never been a complete wash).
Plus we are expecting the Christmas banner and probably more legendary unit banners for the other blessings.
I am not sure, but I'd say a TT right after this one isn't going to happen. If I recall, there is a voting gauntlet coming and I'd expect a time buffer before the next TT, so that would likely mean new bonus units from a subsequent banner. Speculation!

I don't mind fishing for one unit on each new hero banner, but I'm not sold that any of these will be game changing for me right now. Hmm, maybe I'll just toss 15 orbs into a full pull using the free summon and see what happens.
I'm not sure I'm interested in the voting gauntlet banner. I think the only one I cared about was the one with Lucina, since I really wanted her.

The only reason I’d planned to roll on the next banner was potential TT bonus units. Is there any thought on whether that could be true?
My guess is they will be arena bonus units. Probably TT whenever the next banner comes (I would assume January)
I ended up creating some decent 5* starter units, so luckily, I can always put them on the team. I feel that I get more out of having TT bonus units instead of arena bonus units, since I'm never able to stay in Tier 20, but can usually get there!
EDIT: The December quests help pad the orb count a bit too. I'm curious what the other gauntlet banner will hold. Hopefully nothing I find enticing enough to throw orbs at!
I wish they'd add a dragon I actually like. Need to see Myrrh or Kurthnaga before I'd invest heavily in one. Well I like ninian but she isn't a combat dragon really.

I wish they'd add some Beaststone heroes. You'd think they would function just like dragons so I'm not sure what the holdup is, other than possibly trying to figure out if you differentiate Beaststones and Dragonstones in terms of things like Fortify Dragons and whatnot (i.e. do you make them functionally the same as dragons and have that skill fortify both? Do you make new buff skills? Do you give them a unique icon? Does anything affect them differently ala Falchion?)
Well dragons are unique in that they're melee magic units.
The beast units would be melee physical units... Which are basically just regular units with weapon inheritance issues.
I suppose that's true, but dragonstones also count as a different weapon type for skills that affect that sort of thing. And I think the 2.0 change even made the magic distinction mostly irrelevant as I believe they now base off the enemy's lowest skill (defense or resistance) rather than just resistance (it may still matter for things like Deflect Magic seal).
Which I have to say, is super nice. It's a reason to actually use dragons since they largely ignore defense on imbalanced heroes (which is most of them, many either have a ton of defense or resistance and then a pitiful amount of the other)
Edit: Oh, one interesting thing they could do is actually make Beaststones colorless. There aren't really any colorless melee units, so that could be an interesting niche
The weakest defense thing only applies when dragons are fighting ranged units (mages and archers) . Dragons still exclusively target the resistance stat of melee units. Granted it is a bit uncommon for a melee unit to have a large resistance stat.
It's a big middle finger to horse emblem teams with Reinhardt/BLyn since they're probably not going to survive a counter attack from lightning breath++ to their worst defense.

Reinhardt has the defenses to survive a hit, but with his abysmal speed he'd almost certainly get doubled and die, even against a Tiki. Brave Lyn just disappears due to her paper-thin DEF. The issue for the dragons, of course, is surviving that brave attack in the first place.

Dragonstones weren't affected by the Deflect Magic seal anyway. Nor are staves, for that matter. They should have just called it Deflect Tomes.
Same thing with Sigurd—he doesn't get damage reduction vs. dragons.
I don't think they would ever do it but it would be nice if you could upgrade 4* weapons to the 5* through the forge. Make it way more expensive and requiring the base level of it but make it sort of purchasable

I'm pretty sure their answer to that is to just use the feathers
Buying the weapon via feathers seems cheaper except in the case where you inherited the base weapon to someone else at an earlier date or you're trying to inherit the weapon alongside multiple other skills.
