I got through the sorting hat discussion on the last chat, and I've always wondering how the algorithm for it works.

There are obviously weights for personal desire, aptitude, personality, heritage, etc.

But in in theory the hat probably tries to achieve some realistic ratio between the houses right? Like not perfectly 25% for each, but roughly there, at least from what we see. There isn't one house with like 5% membership one year, which is something that would happen just by happenstance from time to time.

So there's got to be a lot of people right on the margins that the hat sorts just to maintain parity between the houses. This one fucking hat decides a child's destiny by pure happenstance.

What I'm saying is that the hat is the real villain and the children should rebel and be part of whatever house they want to be. Teach the controversy!

    Canada. Thanks, Shryke.

Friends, countrymen, lend me your ears:

That's just 4 "East Coast" sticks of butter stuck together.

Also, on the subject of butter, wtf is wrong with fucking butter containers. Butter containers that actually fit a pound of butter seem to literally not exist anywhere and it's driving me insane because I've been trying to find one for literally years.

    Fucking capitalism fails again.

Yeah, this is the one I found just last night and may well be the only option out there. And I 'm still not sure I like it cause the high sides on the bottom would be a bit annoying.

    I tend to use kerrygold.

    It is decent flavorful butter.

I always used the long sticks of butter until I saw the land o lakes brand short stubby ones. Short is better for almost any purpose. If I’m mass baking then I guess I have the minor inconvenience of having to peel open a few sticks. But cooking for just one the short ones are just better.

I made a pie last week. I'm making another one tonight.

280g of butter per pie. Or more then half a pound each.

I use kerrygold because word of mouth and image works on me. I like the label and people I like say it’s better. I’ve never tasted it side by side with cheaper butter but I’m gonna keep buying it

We cut a slice of butter off the 1 pound brick, stick it on a saucer, and keep that saucer in the cupboard.

You can get these suckers in Canada:
    S_Salted-Butter-Sticks.png

It's basically a cardboard package with 4 sticks in it.

But like, what would you pay twice the price for the same amount of butter? It's like doubling the cost of your butter for the privilege of more unwrapping.

the primary purpose of putting butter on a dish seems to be to cover it in clingfilm and put it back in the fridge after 3% of it has been used to butter everyone's toast

hence I don't know anyone but my grandma who does it

    but it shows good Bildung

what kind of fucked joke poll is this

    No kerrygold

    No plugra

Those are both packaged West Coast style, are they not?

Plugra is usually a pound, same dimensions as four East Coast-sized sticks together. Kerrygold is usually a half pound, same dimensions as two East Coast sticks together.

    Hmm, I've only seen these

    d063dd7d-78e3-4064-a707-7f2a54bb7914_1.ebbfbfeb3a129c1e1e52d360e118a9c2.jpeg

    51FcXaNE4YL._SX466_.jpg

If that's not the west coast style, then I don't understand anything and this election is rigged.

I get these butters in this format in NY

This poll is flawed. Fake News

Butter takes a really long time to go rancid. If you use butter regularly, like spreading on toast or whatever, you can leave it out.

I don't give a shit how butter is packaged but I'm happy to use this as a proxy battle for the west coast's general superiority.

every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.
the "no true scotch man" fallacy.
