The universe delivered two full squads to us in the forest by the mansion and this happened:
https /www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMKtyEPH2zU
That makes me want to play with a group of people but I'm scared of being the weakest link and being hated.
You should definitely find some people to play with. It's a completely different game.
Don't worry. I had a bunch of squad games tonight where I was the weakest link. It happens sometimes. Had five games where I found a pistol. Ran a bit. Then died to someone with an AR.
It's a lot more fun with squads. 90% of the time we drop hot just for fights.
If, if Reagan played disco He'd shoot it to shit You can't disco in Jackboots
What I've learned between the games I get 1-2 kills and 8+ is "be aggressive" and "fire fast and hard, even at distance"
As long as you're in a good position with an escape route or lots of cover, then yes aggression is fine. If you're exposed, you're going to give yourself away and draw attention to your exposed body and only survive by essentially luck.

That's what has me wondering... I had a round, on my first day of having the game, where I got 5 kills. Never been able to get that many before again (plus the game crashed, I may have gotten more in that round). I wasn't playing particularly smart during it.
And like... am I supposed to throw out all the conventions I learned from other FPS games to be successful at this one? Like the concepts of 'ranged' weapons and such? That spray & pray is bad?
There's really no right or wrong way to do things.
Take the VSS, it's technically a sniper, but toss an extended mag into it and put it on auto and you've got yourself a medium ranged SMG that has a lot of stopping power that people completely ignore most of the time.
Then you've got the vector, fully kitted up with a silencer a lot of pubg players nickname it "the shredder" because it just rips through people late game on full auto.
Personally, myself, I've found I like M4/tommy gun combo because it complements my playstyle which is medium/close combat and building clearing. I can't hit for shit at range so if a sniper gets a hold of me I'm dead either way unless I can juke them with enough cover and smokes. That said if I find a mini before a thompson I'll probably use that instead because the mini is a great medium range sniper (the m4 becomes my close range weapon on full auto at that point)
But if you're after getting a higher finishing position, I find stealth is always the better option. But if you want them sweet points, getting 4-6 kills right off the bat and dying in the first 5 minutes gets you a lot of points. There was a point I was just doing military and school jumps over and over because the rate of return on getting cases was much higher than playing a full 40 minute game.
not a doctor, not a lawyer, examples I use may not be fully researched so don't take out of context plz, don't @ me

Yeah that's almost a given. I hate when squad members start engaging without finding appropriate cover.
Though if you're spotted out in the open running to zone what can you even do at that point other than engaging them.

Luck of the circle normally gets me in those situations, or getting loot vision and then suddenly finding yourself outside the circle because you didn't look at the minimap for 5 minutes.

i need to discipline myself and never ever take shots at distances i dont feel comfortable with.
Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.
S12k with extended mag is seriously the best defense against a full team suddenly rolling up on your compound and leaping through windows. I don't care how much armor you have, 8 shotgun rounds fired as fast as I can click is going to get the job done.
I believe console is six months or so behind PC, and the AKM is definitely quite inaccurate when fired at full auto and you get a lot of spread holding down the trigger. Which is too bad, I really like the gun and I think it does more damage but it's hard to control.

Or learn how to shoot.
(I kid, I kid. Well, I sorta kid. Every situation you're not comfortable with is an opportunity to practice a skill. Not comfortable shooting at that distance? This is an opportunity to develop the skills to get comfortable at that distance.)
The AK has always been hard to control. It basically needs at least a Flash Hider, preferrably a Compensator. It balances its higher damage. But with 1.0 they made it even worse
M4 was always kind of the best, but now it reigns supreme

Thought the supreme ruler was the AUG (if you can get it). I haven't played around with it, though, so maybe the damage dropoff is horrendously bad.

I've started shooting on sight more and I think it has improved me at all ranges. I've noticed I've been hesitanting less in close range fights too.
played PUBG for the first time in 6 months last night with some friends. Was a first time for FPP as well as the new map.
Managed to snag a Chicken Dinner out of one of the rounds
it was us vs one final team. My three team mates were moving together a bit ahead of me, I was lagging behind. The enemy team sees my allies, unloads on them. Manages to kill them all, but in the confusion; didn't see me at all. While the enemy was murdering my allies I managed to get within ~10 feet of them and bursted them down with my UMP.
(mine) someone explain to me what's happening here. M24 should be a 1 shot headshot on a lvl2 helmet. If it's not a headshot though, why do I blow her helmet off?

No you're right, I just wasn't counting the crate guns
I just got the M249 and didn't get to fire it once
I really wanna blow up some cars with that thing.
The one time I got an M249, it was in a supply drop that landed in the water. So, I did the one thing I knew I was effective at doing with that weapon: I dropped it to the bottom of the water, took the ammo, and re-equipped my AR. I can't use fully-auto 5.56/7.62 weapons to save my life (the only full-auto gun I use is the UMP)...so the SAW would've been a liability in my hands.

I cannot stand how difficult it can be to see someone who is shooting at me. Last game taking shots. I stand still, turn a slow 360. Cannot find the person shooting, while shots hit around my feet.

Oh it was 17 total kills between the 3 of us.

Now?
It's always been gud.
For my style, the M4 was the best for months before 1.0.... right after they fixed the tactical stock not giving any extra stats.
i mean its always been good
but akm and m16 got nerfs, scar minor buffs, and m4 got even better
its like miles above m16 and akm now. pretty much a laser compared to the shotgun that is akm aiming
Or learn how to shoot.

CHICKEN DINNER
So I think even if I end up shooting like Yosemite Sam, I need to pull the trigger

This ^ from the 1.0 release notes here
A neck shot does 75% headshot damage and is protected by the helmet
This is my guess
84 Damage * 2.5 Sniper Headshot * 0.75 Neckshot * 0.6 (-0.4 from helmet) = 94.5 Damage

I'll be on in like an hour
AUG, Groza and M249 are all super good
There are two multipliers - a body hit multiplier and a weapon type/area multiplier.
Like the Vector on steroids

I have no luck killing people in cars. So I just aim to blow them up.
