    I'd love it if
we could keep the rapid fire goofball shit to the Guardians movies, but apparently space in the MCU is just an infinite Pee-Wee's Playhouse, so I'll deal. There were plenty of good jokes, but it felt like they decided to throw ten crappy ones in around them for no reason.

    My good:
Cameos were solid across the board. Ashamed it took me so long to spot Sam Neil.
    Beta Ray bill reference!
Hela, surprisingly! Not a huge Blanchett fan, but she nailed it.
    Valkyrie.
    Grandmaster, Goldblum's natural...weirdness/chattiness, I guess?...worked perfectly.
    Miek!
    Loki/Thor relationship
Surtur, what we saw of him
Anthony Hopkins playing Loki playing Odin. "Oh shit!" might have been my first big laugh of the movie.
    Loki's play.
    "Damn you, Stark. Point Break".
Translating great moments from the books well to perfectly.
The first time they pulled out "Sun's going down".

    My bad:
The scene where they decided to cgi Hela's whole face and her mouth looked like silly putty.
    Korg, period.
YOU KILLED VOLSTAGG I HATE YOU FOREVER!!!
    Where the hell was Sif?
Lack of time spent on Hela/Skurge/Surtur.
    That was Ragnarok?
Underselling/drastically changing great moments from the books.
Thor is now more lucky doofus than god.
Every other time they pulled out "Sun's going down".

    My eh:
Hulk (he and banner both had their "pull it back. A lot" moments for me.)
Heimdall (great as underground leader, needed more scenes)
Stan Lee cameo (breaks my heart to say)
    Eyepatch.

my biggest criticism would be for all that they talk about asgard being its people, the people don't have much character. They're all just generic worried folks, and they unceremoniously killed off the three guys besides heimdall who had names and some personality, and of course sif is absent entirely

Hey Clancy brown you want to be in a thor movie?
    Sure.
you will be the bringer of ragnarok, you get to fight the hulk and you kill the main villain
    Neat!
You will be a joke character who has maybe 5 minutes of screen time
    Dang.
    Also just a voice
    Well I'm used to that.

In regards to the credit scenes
were we supposed to recognize that ship? Is it a known thing for the comic readers?

Also, I assumed that Loki used the cube to get the hell out of dodge Asgard and teleport to the ship, since there didn't seem to be a huge amount of time between "Wake up call for Mr. Surtur" and "Ragnarok now". Sure, Loki knew hidden ways, but that's still a lot of ground to cover, ground that's currently being torn up by Hela and Surtur.

I want to make it clear that I'm not doing a joke and this is a serious problem I had with the film
talking Hulk coded as though he had Down's Syndrome or a similar affliction. That's not funny to me. I'm fine with Hulk being simple, and being dumb, but everything about the Hulk performance seemed to specifically imitate people with real life difficulties. I thought it was pretty gross!

Ruffalo in Banner form I just thought was a terrible performance. He didn't even try to match his previous performance and just played it as Mark Ruffalo.

That's not the read I had on what they were doing with Hulk:
I thought they were going for something along the lines of him being essentially a child, given how this is the first time he's been able to exist as essentially his own person, so he's impulsive and immature and everything else being a child entails.

regarding Ruffalo, I thought he was mostly fine? I don't know that he's really had time to nail down who bruce banner is, given his relatively limited screen time, but his reactions to his particular situation in this felt...mostly about how I would expect

Hela destroys the hammer in a city alleyway not Norway. Valkyrie is dragging Thor by the net and not his cape like in the movie.

They changed it between when the trailer was cut and when they started releasing scenes on their own as promo material. One of the early released scenes was it happening by the cliffs, and immediately followed by the full trailer showing that scene in an alley

I watched this. Loved it. I'm furious about it in a very meta sense.
God fucking dammit Hela as a secret Odin kid completely wrecks any hope of seeing Angela, dammit. However, I dug Blanchett so I can cut the movie some slack on that point.

I really liked Hela in general as a villain. Great straightforward motivation, she's a bloodthirsty psycho who is furious that Odin spent the last however many centuries hiding his crimes. A couple of twists and she'd be on the good guys side(and I could see her allying with Thanos or Asgard depending on circumstances.) I just hope Blanchett is willing to return in the role!

Not saying he was faking the voice, Stick, just that people would probably expect a deep, rumbly, Hulk-like voice from a giant rock guy, and they got the opposite. That's a one-off surprise (less with trailers), and almost none of his dialogue worked for me, that's all. "Another day, another Doug" was pretty good.

Nah, the humor in Marvel movies are mostly to break tension and provide some relief to the audience. You can only do that so often before it just tries to play as a comedy rather than an action flick and...well they're not great comedy movies. I thought it had a couple really good comedic moments in it and a whole lot of basically passable ones. If the passable ones were breaking more established tension they would have played better.

The movie refused to take itself seriously save in very small, intimate moments, and even those were often humorous

I think that was actually to its advantage. It felt like the movie turning to me and going "You know, we all have fun here, but also everything about this setting is very silly." And that's true! I like the setting but it is very silly. The characters in it are silly, the plot itself is silly, every aspect of it is very silly, and having a movie that never takes itself seriously is a lot of fun.
I think the best moments in the movie involve Hulk, but I didn't read him as being neurodiverse so much as I read him being a literal child. I've known 3-year-olds like him, so the way he went "No. Uh-uh" and turned away when Thor was going over to apologize was probably the best single thing in the movie for me

But I can also see how you'd read his characterization in other ways and hoo boy that would be a serious damper on the fun times

Saw this last night, good stuff! Always good to see when MCU movies are able to have a different tone than the usual and this one certainly did. Even aside from the jokeyness it felt like it was incredibly fast-paced, constantly jumped straight forward without worrying about setting things up.

One thing I have mixed feelings about
I dunno if the Skurge scene was really worth it, if you've gotta do Gjallebru it really coulda used more than 30 seconds of screen time.

    And regarding cameos
The Dr Strange scene was fantastic, made him seem much more mystical than the entire Dr Strange movie did.

Liked it well enough, felt it was a bit overstuffed and perpetually don't care for one dimensional villains who show up, are evil at the hero, then die.

Also some of the comedy felt pretty forced, like Banner jumping out of the ship at Fenrir and just...landing.

Still enjoyed it fine, but Captain America and Dr. Strange are still better movies.

This would have been okay, but Asgard is presented as a relatively progressive society and it would be a little out of place for them. That said, the Valkyries are an elite all-female fighting force so they could go in on her being trans and that being one of the oddly regressive aspects of Asgard highlighting just how secretly shitty Odin can be.

But I don't think Tessa Thompson is trans and I'd much rather have Sera played by a trans actress? They could still do Heven but it loses a lot of the punch without the familial connection.
