Man this movie was awesome. Just pure 100% fun.
Some people were saying there was too much humor and i didn't feel that way at all. I thought there was a great balance.
The opening 10 minutes is probably one of the best music videos ive ever seen. Was it over the top? Hell yes it was and i love it so much i want to give it a hug. Not just like, a bro hug, but a big deep hug like it's leaving at the airport. I LOVE THIS MOVIE
It was a more fun space romp than Guardians 2 (in my opinion) and embraced the sheer "comic bookness" of the property. Lots of things i should -and would- normally hate in a movie (characters like Korg) wound up being pulled off so deftly that i loved everytime they were on screen.
Also, shout out to Cate Blanchett who is 48. Because dayum ! I thought i was wearing Stark's pants there for a minute.
And she had fun with it! Just embraced the theater and inherent camp and silliness of the concept and ran with it. She never acted like it was beneath her though (looking at you Hopkins)
I didnt see it in 3d, though i did see it in IMAX>
Highly recommend the IMAX. The colors, the music (get loudest speakers you can find!) the action.....its worth the IMAX 2d at least. Its a big giant rock and roll concert for 2 hours.

Maybe? I thought it looked great in 2D, and 3D tends to make things darker which would definitely hurt this movie, but there's definitely some stuff that would use the 3D in there.
Hela's main power is creating swords out of thin air and throwing them at people, so lots 3D potential there.
Shut up, Mr. Burton! You were not brought upon this world to get it!

It wasn't as impressive as you'd think it would be.
There's some definite standout moments in 3D, but they're few and far between. A bigger screen would make for a more enjoyable experience.

Man, all the Imax showings here are always in 3D and 20 dollars for a movie is just too much.

Damn right. It's the type of role actresses typically don't get, and why she's important as the first female big bad in the MCU movie side.
Also I want her to come back, she was too good a villain to kill off.
I think the only time the humor bothered me was when Hela got quippy. I think it would have worked better if she had been written more straight. I can buy Thor lightening up over his years of interaction with Stark and other humans, and everything crazy on Goldblum's planet. But Hela is the Goddess of Death who's been exiled for a loooooong time.
"Well, I mean [cute shrug] you'll mostly be executing people, but also that other thing..." just didn't really work for me and felt really out of character just to throw in a bit of levity
Also, regarding Karl Urban's character
Did he literally pull those guns out of his ass? There was the obvious setup for them at the beginning with his junk pile (and being in Austin, the Texas line got a really big laugh at my show), but I assumed he would run off to get them when he had his change of conscience. He was never shown carrying them throughout the movie, so for them to appear under his cloak at the last minute seems like a pretty big oversight. Just showing him carrying one of the guns at any other point in the movie would have made that not feel so weird
But despite my minor quibbles, I really enjoyed the movie. It was a really fun adventure/comedy.

Re Karl Urban's friends:
He has them in a lot of scenes. He definitely has them in the scene where Hela gives him the axe, for example. On board the refugee ship he is shown wearing the standard Asgardian disguise of a blanket over his head but it is really really bulky, like say he had a pair of M-16's slung over his back in all those scenes.
Still not really sure why the fuck he jumped out after the spire had already broken free of the ship and he'd killed the dead dudes who could reach the ship but whatever.

It was really cool thing to do, and he's a space viking.

I think what's probably the biggest strength of the MCU is that every time a new movie comes out I get excited to see all these new characters interact with all the other characters.
Infinity War is going to be nuts, but I want team up movies in the future. Give me a Valkyre/Black Widow movie.
Can we talk about the awesome costuming of all the space folks in the back ground. Total Kirby styling and it was awesome.

Thought they would save any Hulk and Thor utter defeats for Infinity War. If Thor can't handle Hela, you got to wonder just how hard Thanos is going to beat him into the dirt.

Imagine a Marvel movie starring exclusively female heroines. Cool, right? That’s what a Thor: Ragnarok star recently pitched to Marvel, and while it’s not any way officially happening, Marvel head Kevin Feige seems interested.
During a press event for Thor: Ragnarok on Wednesday, actress Tessa Thompson (“Valkyrie”) and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige revealed that Thompson had seriously approached Feige with the idea. “Recently I marched up with a couple of other women who work in Marvel and [asked Kevin Feige] ‘How about a movie with some female superheroes? Like all of them,’” said Thompson.
Joked Feige: “It was a pretty amazing moment to be somewhere and have your shoulder be tapped and turn around find every female hero we have is standing there going, ‘How about it?’ And I said ‘yes.’”
Thompson brought up an obscure Marvel reference to make her point. “There’s a precedent for it in the comics with the Lady Liberators,” she told the press, which impressed Feige. “Deep cut! Lady Liberators!”
The Lady Liberators are an all-female superhero team in Marvel, who first appeared in The Avengers #80 in 1970 by Roy Thomas. Several major MCU heroines have claimed membership to the Liberators, including Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, the Wasp, and Valkyrie. (And Hellcat as well, but Patsy Walker has yet to adopt her hero identity in Jessica Jones.)
And more villains and big bads who are ladies, please.

Won't have an apocalypse handy to stop him.
That's business as usual with Thanos. He's a team killer - for teams which have rosters like Carol Danvers, Thor, Hulk, Silver Surfer etc.
In the comics he routinely brushes off Surfer's biggest hits like nothing.

I love how into all this Tessa is.
Fighting for Valkyrie to be represented as bi, trying to kickstart a Lady Liberators movie. She seems pretty awesome.

She's into the green, if you know what I mean.
Money, enjoying the roles, can't it be both?
Speaking of green
She seemed to have formed some sort of friendship with The Hulk which I would have liked to have seen more of.
One of the few times Valkyrie didn't seem miserable was when she thought Hulk wanted to hang out. Which I thought was a surprisingly cute side of both characters.

There are versions of the mythology in which shape shifting gods like Loki... Uh... Dont keep weapons in a "traditional" scabbard. So, yeah, true to the source?

Karl Urban’s character was such a weird little supporting role.
You can see him squirming and on the brink of alignment checks the whole movie and yet he’s almost beneath the notice of the whole rest of the cast until the very end.

The opening and battle between Thor and Surtur might be my favorite part of the movie on reflection.
Kept waiting for Immigrant Song to kick in one more time in the final act.
Just saw it. Loved it. I guess I can see why others might not have liked all the humor or whatever. But I watch these to laugh and have fun, not pick them apart.

For my part, I didn't mind the humor. I think Hemsworth has great natural comedic talent and I like it when they have fun with Thor.
I just felt like a lot of the heavier scenes in the film got their legs swept out from under them because of ill-timed jokes.

I saw it in 3D and it was good but I think going for a DLX screen might be better.
If you've got one that's got 3D on DLX, then yeah do that. It's visually stunning.
Also I didn't notice till it was pointed out to me:

"Come on...Come on....Fuck yeah!"
Music By Mark Mothersbaugh
Everything suddenly made so much sense. Then right after his name his trademark vocals hit.
Also perma Hulk, but a Hulk that's kind of in control?
Korg and Miek should join the GotG.
I'm hazy on Avengers 1- did Loki make a deal with Thanos in that one?
Anthony Hopkins looked really old.
Poor Fenrir, he just needed a scratch behind the ears.
I do like how they explained the 9 realms in the context of the whole cosmos.
Strange has totally been power leveling. The grind is real. Maybe he spent some time learning from Odin?
This soundtrack plus the Stranger Things soundtracks are rad.
Infinity War is going to the most ridiculous movie(s) ever made. Holy shit.
Hemsworth did a pretty good Ash scream in that scene

Still now Sif can show up on AoS oblivious to all this stuff.
