So far the only difference I've really noticed with Fallout is a massively increased draw distance, which is fine because that was one of my biggest issues visually on consoles. I've yet to check out the more stressful areas like the main cities

I remember there being a lot of complaints about Ark early on on PC. How does it run on the regular xbone?

    Not great.

Have played it a bunch and enjoyed myself but it isn't very well optimized and the graphical settings are what i'd guess are mostly 'low' on pc.

I'd say try the demo but not sure if there is one anymore since it left the preview program?

Yes this can be read as a set up for a crude joke, but has anyone touched their X when it's been dormant/standby for about 12-15 hours and it still feels a bit warm to the touch? Not worryingly so, but just odd compared to the previous models. I know it's got all the power in there and such.

Yep! Just did, it's a little warm, but not weirdly so. Just "I'm a device!" warm. Probably the internal PSU and all.

After the second instance of waiting for my character to run out of air because I was stuck in geometry and couldn't get out, and the game offers no means of resetting back to a previous checkpoint and such, I have to say that Narcosis is a game that I wouldn't recommend buying. So annoying.

Though perhaps not including checkpoints and not fixing it so players couldn't get caught in spots on the map is survival horror. IDK. It takes like 5 minutes to die each time. :|

edit: as of this edit, I am 17% remaining before death. I kind of think maybe restarting the level would be faster... :\ not even the enemies can path to me and kill me quicker.

edit2: it also doesn't help that the "scary" and "psychological" parts of the game have really fallen flat to me.

Anyone else getting service issues right now? I had some trouble playing an Xbox game on Windows 10 (my save data wouldn't persist after I quit out), and for some reason a very simple achievement in Brothers isn't popping up despite trying twice.

There's nothing clear on the status page, but maybe there's something going on. The networks settings say I'm connected, but the error message keeps changing.

EDIT: Ah, well, some combination of logging out, logging in, going offline, going online, and reseting my router/model did the trick for console. Not sure about the Xbox game on Windows 10, never ran into this issue before. Guess I'll see tomorrow.

So apparently Fallout 4 on Xbox One X? Pretty good according to DF, and very favorable next to the PlayStation 4 Pro.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWutKSrog3c&t=0s

Highlights: You're seeing generally 85% or better matching to a native 2160p resolution (with horizontal pixel scaling mostly, as in other Bethesda games), versus PSFro's 1440p resolution goal (which is in turn upscaled to UHD). Both versions frequently miss that goal in more intensive places, though it's worth noting that the Xbox will occasionally lose more frames in certain areas, and the PlayStation will lose frames in other areas, so the big difference seems to be visual quality.

They also returned to something I didn't understand necessarily, but is important: every Xbox One game (excluding uniquely 2D titles like Cuphead), even without an XB1X patch, will get a basic "improved performance" patch with slightly better resolution and mondo anistrophic filtering, as well as better framerates. Xbox One X enhancement is something that replaces the default "Okay, this runs better" improvement, sort of how there was a small improvement when playing games on the 'S' rather than the launch console. In a few games, where the bump in visual fidelity with XB1X enhancement is 4 times or more, along with better shaders and particle effects, the unpatched version may have more consistent framerates (of course it won't have options either). Also, the draw distance is improved (apparently incorporating the stronger medium-range distance on XB1 with the long-range distance of PS4).

It was something I didn't fully understand myself, I assumed that the situation was more like on PlayStation 4 Pro: a game that has no enhancement patch, apparently, runs exactly the same as the base model PS4. Which is why patching is very important.

Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 were already available to play on the Xbox One via the Xbox Backward Compatibility program but only if you owned physical copies of the game or downloaded digitally through EA Access. Today, that has changed as both games are now available to purchase and download from the Xbox store.

Ark runs like shit and always has. I'd go so far as to guess it always will run poorly even on overpowered hardware. I returned mine quite a while ago via Steam, I couldn't see what it was doing that made it run so poorly. It looked sort of passable, but when you really looked, it was a bit rough.

RE: Mass effect and DLC - to the best of my knowledge, there is no GOTY for any of them. Some editions include some things, others include nothing. I know the DLC on Xbox has been on sale once, maybe twice. I guessed a while back that they were obligated to put it on sale once or something if it went on Xbox Live, but it did come up a second time.

Unsure why ME is this way, when you can buy DA:I with all DLC on sale for ~$7.50

It would have been such an obvious slam dunk to do full “definitve” editions for current consoles.
Just pass them off to a third party porting house and then sell them for $40 each with no work but a bump in resolution.

But the last year has made it obvious that ea is grossly mismanaging its studios anyway, so they probably would’ve found a way to massively fuck up something that simple.

I assume they haven't done it because people will still buy the DLC separately at a higher price. Once you do that, it's over, that's the new price for however long it's available online.

Not comparing the two companies overall, of course, but it's the same reason Nintendo will probably never make a monthly game pass program for its most beloved classic library: the second they do that, they'll never be able to sell the individual titles, one by one (plus replacements for replacement hardware), until a new console comes out and the service isn't available on that.

I'm pretty sure there's some substantial balance changes but unless the game file structure itself was so poorly managed in the first place (I'm pretty sure its only like 10gbs in the first place) I'd have to imagine it is some sort of content thing too

Considering Cuphead is in effect the same game for both PC versions (aside from some behind-the-scenes machinery differing in Steam and Windows Store) as it is on consoles, I doubt it. And we would've definitely heard about "HUGE ASS CONTENT PACK" coming up.

There might be substantial overhauls to file structure, as Brian said, maybe to help with loading times or some bugs (even though the game is remarkably bug-free).

It's a rather arbitrary distinction at times, but apparently this year, GwG was a substantially stronger offering than PSN Plus.

That's owed in part because Sony's service has been going on longer, and likewise the differences in backward compatibility policy. And let's face it, there was a time when the PS3's best titles were Japanese releases that are never going to see release anywhere else, when people like me bought it for literally one game (sometimes a remaster of an Xbox title).

We could be seeing the addition of more classic Xbox titles as an unexploited area in the future.

I would be ecstatic if we got HD remasters of Otogi: Myth of Demons and Otogi 2(Which I never got around to playing).

Speaking of classic Xbox games, I have been waiting 14 years for Microsoft to finally do a Midtown Madness 4 but they got into Project Gotham Racing and then Forza and those are the only racing games they want to make now. Midtown Madness 3(Which was actually made by DICE), was probably my most played game on Xbox Live on the original Xbox.

An important part of the cuphead patch fixed the weapon swap glitch, which let you basically fire two guns at once as long as you swapped really really quickly:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T85ssaK0UNU

Now that it's fixed, you shoot much more slowly:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuDF1NJpeps

Unfortunately, this was basically the one major speed technique in the game for speedrunners, so people aren't sure if the game will continue having a big community, or if they'll have to split up based on old patch/new patch runs, etc.

It's definitely one of those games that's great as a first experience, but the gameplay isn't exactly worth revisiting. So it's really just a question of "do you wanna put yourself through that story/feeling again?"
