I like to think of them as the Sarah Connor faction. It's not that they LIKE war, exactly, it's that they see how it's going to be.
They're kinda like Doomsday Preppers who aren't wrong.

Sit the kid on your lap and play with them while you do the faction token loop dance. That's called smart parenting.
He's 3 and hardly sits still for ten seconds when awake. That said, he did watch me fight my way in there, and then started insisting I switch to the "other shooter," and telling me what colors he wanted all my guns to be. He also had to ask me what all the lights in the cave were for, and how he didn't like the "spooky" in there.
I farmed up the 600 tokens in about and hour and 20 minutes. Fairly mind numbing but listening to a podcast made it go by pretty quickly. Now I'm debating waiting for the vendor to have 300 stuff, or just turn it all in and and deal with it later.

All my armor is at 265, my weapons are at 265 or above, but now I can’t seem to get anything to drop that isn’t right at 265 power. I thought I’d slowly piece together 269 gear, then grab powerful rewards, then repeat. Am I missing something in the loop here? Can I only get gear above 265 from certain activities?

You wont get 266 gear until your gear average is at 271. Once you're past 265 you only get gear thats -5 levels off your base power average (without mods)

Question about the faction vendors: I know I can't get engrams at a higher power level than I am, even if it's one of the 300 rotations, but I'm at 272 currently and every time I go turn in some of the hundreds of tokens I farmed up in an hour, it's always a 266 engram.
Is that always going to be the max level engram I get from the faction, or is it possible to get up to my current power level of 272 and I've just been a bit unlucky in getting the same number every rotation?

But I had a good time. Just ran around popping into lost sectors and stopping at public events. Do the rally milestones that say "do X today" reset daily? Because if not I probably won't try to complete all of it in one go next time.
I just popped 600 tokens for DO on my Titan. Got the full armor set, about 8 Gravity Slingshots, 3 Eleventh Hours, 4 Contingency Plans, 4 Escape Velocities, 3 Haunted Earths, 3 Dire Promises... but no AR.

Pro-Tip: The 80's All Over is an excellent podcast to farm to if you're into hearing about all the big (and not so big) film releases of the 80's. Each episode covers a single month, starting with January '80. I think they're into the middle of '82 at this point? Drew McWeeny (formerly AICN's Moriarty) and Scott Weinberg do a good job discussing all these good and bad films. Gonna pop this back on in the morning and work on my Warlock.

You can rarely pick up 300 gear with a Legendary Mod already installed in it making it 305. Also when you're 300(305) the equipment you get (blues, legendary engrams) will be anywhere from 295 to 300, exotics will always be 305.

The "invisible" number is strictly lower or equal to your current level, if you mean your base power level, which is what is used to calculating drops. Basically, ignore any legendary mods to figure out this number (don't forget that all exotics have a set legendary mod)
At 264 you can either keep going until you get that elusive last thing(s) at 265 for your base level (spam tokens at people to get legendary gear). This is the most efficient path assuming you have infinite playtime and value getting the most out of any particular week's rewards)
But you are in the range that you could start on the power gear staircase without significantly compromising efficiency. And so you don’t leave all your rewards for the end of the week, instead cash in one powerful reward and then grinding regular content until it stops dropping higher, then open another powerful reward etc.
So, an example might be if everything is at 264 you might get a 277 reward from your luminous engram, bumping your base power level up to 266 (let's assume you were a high 264). Then your new maximum drop level might be 266, so you can grind out regular content until everything you have is 266 or above. Which might, in turn mean that your base power level is now 267 with your fancy first powerful reward, and then you could keep going until everything except that is 267. Now you have hit that ceiling, it is time to open your next powerful gear reward and repeat the cycle. It is also better to wait to do dynasty quests when your kinetic and energy weapons are significantly lower than the rest of your gear or the same level (just not the highest) or you have nothing else available, as the rewards are guaranteed to be one/some of those. You could also start with one of those (but as you can only do them once per character this may not be the most efficient route).
I THINK the best strategy is to save the nightfall until last as it gives two drops (one when you finish, OneNote from Zavala) and you can make sure they are as high as possible to get the most benefit by saving it. But I don’t know whether that actually makes a difference as I have not done the maths. Also raid.

That's what videos on youtube or something are for. Just use digital entertainment to put him into a comma while you farm in Destiny 2. Just remember to feed him at some point.
The collector in me is recoiling in horror at the fact that I'm not going to be getting any non-FWC weapons or gear outside of lucky Cayde stash pulls.
Well, that went pretty well tonight. Managed to farm up 401 tokens over the course of 2 runs. Took maybe an hour tops of actual farming.
Turned them in to Facists R Us because the jackbooted always know how to dress well.
Only took 16 out of the 20 turn ins I had to get all the armor and weapons for my Titan. Including a Hand Cannon that wasn't listed under the engram preview.
Sadly I think they are gonna patch that exploit out in a few hours, so I won't have time to finish pushing my Warlock through the campaign and farm up crazy cult fanatics tokens. Guess I'll have to do that the old fashioned way.
