The Lost Sector/Faction Token exploit did nothing but prove to me the following:
Valid farming methods do not respect my time.
Bungie's RNG system does not respect my time.
By doing this exploit instead of having actual fun with other players, I don't respect my time.
In the time it takes to watch/listen to the movie "Free Fire" you can easily grind out 600+ tokens.
Sharlto Copley is a goddamn national treasure.
In other news, I have the full FWC set and countless weapons on titan. Tonight will most likely be District 9 on my Warlock.
In a statistical occurrence which should surprise no one, people on Reddit are already reporting maxing a faction for both rallies without completing an armor set. And since this is the last rally for this season...
About one and a half hours to farm 600 DO tokens. This was the first time I can recall playing a game and gotten a headache/dizziness from all the spinning around and running back and forth.
I also had the run way optimized to the point that the loot notification was just disappearing as I reset the instance in the upper tunnel. Ugh.
Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.
The incentive problem is entirely in linking a time-limited (and possibly season-limited?) set of rewards to a slot machine which a) has limited uses and b) requires you to work in order to use.

I decided to do the Lost Sector grind on my PC Hunter for shards and maybe upgrades. 600 tokens, no chest. My hatred of RNGesus burns brightly.
On the plus side, that experience taught me that I should completely ignore faction rallies because while they may award lots of "stuff," what they mostly hand out is frustration.
As protest, my Xbone characters will not be pledging any faction.

yeah, same
900 tokens turned in over two rallies on my hunter and only got two pieces of the armor
this is stupid and i am fine no longer participating
If you are into pvp and High Caliber Rounds, DO has the best guns this rally.

If you've gotten a PM from me about destiny 2's PC clan, do that thing! If you haven't, you're still on the waitlist. Please don't apply to the guild if you see an open spot unless I've told you it's time as we're trying to get people in in the order they applied. Thanks people!
After dismantling duplicates from the faction rally. is there a legendary shard dump that I am missing?
Short answer? No.
Long answer? You can gamble them with Shaxx until you get a Crucible XP/Crucible Reward ghost. You can also use them to rank up the gunsmith if you're still really chasing a gun that drops from him (buy exotics from your collection, break down for weapon parts + half the shards back, repeat).

So how do you get the mod vendor fella to change his stock? I'm not quite sure how to actually get the mods I need.
the purple mods are based off you having 3 blue mods of that type to combine
otherwise what you do is buy blue mods from him for glimmer until you are able to create purple mods from him, dismantle the purple mods you get for mod parts (one per mod), and then buy either weapon or armor mods from him for 2 mod parts a piece, which is basically an RNG system
so if what you want is a kinetic weapon mod, you want to do that and buy the weapon mod from him until you get a kinetic (which should be a 1/4 chance)
Allegedly a voice of reason.

You can buy exotics from your vault (10 shards a weapon), then dismantle them (which nets you 5 shards and 3 gunsmith components). You are basically trading 5 shards for 3 gunsmith components, which then you can hand to banshee and get mods and guns.
Is it worth the time sink for the rewards? I tried it out and personally found it lacking like the rest of the gambling in this game, but others find it useful for blue mods to turn into purple ones. YMMV

Supposedly the Live team are working on better ways to dump Legendary Shards because yeah they pile up.
I have all the package weapons from DO but the sidearm, and all of the package weapons from FWC. I have 18 tries left to get the Warlock DO chest, and 12 at the Hunter FWC legs.
Despite having my favorite shaders, NM was left in the cold this rally. I got the full Warlock set from them last time, along with their AR, SR, and FR.
I'll grind out the rest of the packages I can get later on.
Meanwhile, it occurs to me that the in-world economy of Destiny is fucking stupid...
Banshee: Hey Guardian. Whatchoo need?
Guardian: I keep hearing this Antiope-D is a beast. How much is that?
Banshee: Well, you're buying a chance at one. Not the actual item. You pay me in weapon parts for me to reach into a grab bag and hand you the first thing I grab, without looking.
Guardian: Fair dinkum, I guess?

I need to put Nightshade and Sunshot into storage for a bit, I think.
I'm piling up legendaries that I've never even fired.

In game economies are usually pretty stupid, but I see it more as you dump a pile of parts on his desk and then he builds what he can out of them.

I went almost a whole week playing this game before I realized that purple weapons weren't just random weapons with random names and stats, a la Borderlands. I was confused why people were talking about named weapons I didn't see on the exotic list.
I just disassembled anything that was lower light level than what I was using.

Explain that first part. How do you spend shards with Shaxx?

There's a ghost shell that you should be able to buy from him, which I guess has some random perks?
When you go talk to him there's a little ghost shell icon that you should be able to select to buy one.
I turned in 600 tokens on my Warlock and got 2 ARs, 3 SMGs, 4 HCs, 2 boots, 1 gloves, 3 helmets, 3 Sausage rifles, 1 GL, 3 snipers, 2 bonds, 2 scouts, 2 sidearms and NO COAT, sigh. At the very least I'm glad I got the AR, SMG, and Scout though, but not getting that coat is very frustrating, especially since it's basically impossible to get now from what I gather? If this is the last rally of the 'season' are future seasons different armor/weapons?

*for PvE.
Hunters are currently arguably the best class in PvP.

working in the sense that you can waste a lot less of your time not getting what you want, yes
I heard something about recovery armor, and I wanted the hand cannon because it looks cool and has a very big impact bar, but that's it.
I do remember specifically not wanting the grenade launcher, so it was of course the first thing I got.
Just remember Chanus, you have 9 separate independent chances to be let down by the system!
i only had the energy to grind 9 turn ins on warlock for DO last night. only 2 armor pieces but all the new guns except the silenced pistol
Part of me felt bad that was how I spent the first 30 minutes on my Scorpio... but eh.
Basically damage.
Higher impact weapons hit harder bit are generally offset by firing slower.
