Solo queueing into Iron Banner today has just reinforced for me how absolutely garbage the crucible matchmaking is.
Regularly getting matched as 4 randos vs a full stack. Usually with some guy with 4.0+ lifetime KA/d with his 3 other chucklefuck friends along for the ride.
That's on top of the obvious skill differential between all the people in that game. Makes it a complete exercise in futility. I really don't blame the people that leave those games to orbit because you are literally just wasting your time for a blue and tokens.
I'm not a network guy so I don't understand how connections can seem spotty with what feels like enough people playing the game, but I kinda hate how this game handles lag. You'll see a guy running around, line him up, do stuff that should kill him, and then he'll not die and evaporate instead and you're horribly exposed for his team mate to kill you. I hate that.
are there any active Ps4 players here? I rolled a warlock (have a 305 titan) and wanna get him up to speed or just play some strikes/IB/NF/raids
Yeah, the PS4 folks have never found a good method of scheduling/communicating other than just using the forum here. There are still a number of us, though the population is way down (and I left the clan in an attempt to find more people to play with).
Jesus fuck, I am sick and fucking tired of this token bullshit. I've managed to earn 9 Iron Banner packages with what little free time I have. I've gotten 4 dupes out of 9 packages... This is honestly sapping all will to even touch this game or pick up the DLC.
If you think of Destiny as an MMO then you're setting yourself up for disappointment.
My issue is, if it's not a progression-based MMO, what is it? Right now it kinda feels like jack of all trades, master of none.

SaaS - software as a service. very slow drip feed content meant to eat 1-5 hours a week for various purposes. my friends have been refering to these as 'platform games' where theres a long tail and a bunch of stuff to get and learn meta wise on the journey until we get halfway through the grind and get sick of it and move on to the next one.
Warframe, marvel heroes, skyforge, fortnite, etc fall into these.

they really need to give you fewer rewards but have them more likely to be unique than this constant vomiting of duplicate loot bullshit
because it quickly feels like you're completely wasting your time playing this way

i wonder if this is not a scaling cap but more of a factor of dividing xp by the number of players involved in a kill, in which case gauging public events against solo kills would be misleading
dividing xp by people present would not at all be a new idea in multiplayer games
if the number of players present makes a difference, this person's methodology would be flawed

That's a possibility. I'm having a lot of trouble following their procedure, but IF there is something affecting XP gain (and not just flawed methodology), I could also see it being something stupid like the amounts you're earning overwriting each other if you're gaining a bunch in a short period of time (so rather than summing up everything, you have XP from a kill "replacing" the public event XP when it's totaled).
Not to, uh, besmirch reddit detectives, but I might try recording some stuff myself.
So, no caps... just further diminishing returns on XP gain beyond 3x drop for your first three bright engrams if you earn too fast? Seems feasible given the data... IDK. Fortunately for me, I adjusted how much I play way back because it generally felt like you were getting penalized for playing too much from the caps and things we knew about.

to me this is only really even an issue if it affects fire team medallions and also those medallions are supposed to affect xp (which i’m not sure they even are)
outside of that, it just means you can’t earn bright engrams as quickly as it might appear, but given i feel i earn enough currently to not even bother paying for silver, what exactly is the problem?

Probably hte best idea is to look for yourself.
The idea that XP gain doesn't update and overwrites if earned too fast is a possibility.
We talked about this before but the UI demonstrates oddities when gaining XP rapidly from different sources (event/kills) and such.
edit: not really all that impacted or interested in finding out though tbh, because once the well rested thing goes away I've simply stopped playing for the week on that character.

Assuming good faith and all, it could be that if the bumps get clumped together too quickly the databases are failing to keep up with it? Maybe their infrastructure is just not able to keep up with the updates and is losing phases of XP updates if they're too close together?
“I used to draw, hard to admit that I used to draw...”
I noticed last night that there was almost always a 3-stack, either with me as the 4th, on the other team, or both sides. Only one match had a full 4. Don't know if that's luck of the draw or an actual matchmaking thing
Also a lot of clan groups are still bad. I was routinely the top of the board with my other 3 being a clan or having a full pub team beat a full group.
And I checked my kad emblem last night and it's been basically the same for the last month. I guess I just AM a 1.43 player, and all my crazy 6+ games get balanced out by my 0.5 games
I think that unless you are a true god you have to be running with a full stacked team or playing really conservatively and self consciously in order to get past a 1.5 kad. I know mine could be better if I played more passively but this is a game and I play it to have fun and being aggressive is fun to me, so my stats suffer.

Been seeing a fair mix of compositions myself. Well, not this session, but I'm playing through disinterest in playing which is never a good idea if you want to perform well. Stopping now because I went 1 short of a close range kill to complete the last challenge on my hunter and I'm pretty much at the point where I'd go in, get the kill and quit the match. Which means time for Warframe!
unrelated, my KAD is apparently 1.92 and I only play solo. ARE YOU KNEELING BEFORE MY EPEEN PEEN?

With the XP thing, the most likely explanation (assuming the slowdown is actually occurring) remains that it's an intentional part of the system just like the way the game throttles your ability to farm chests and resources.
My guess would be that it's all because of the issue the game's setup has with zoning in and out of instances, like we saw and exploited during the last faction rally.
Bungie was incapable or unwilling to design around that issue and so just shrugged and hardcoded caps on farming to prevent people fucking around like that. And then just doesn't, so far, give a shit that people playing the game normally easily slam right into those measures too.

So I've recorded half an hour of me doing 5 public events, and based on what I'm seeing I'm leaning towards a hidden diminishing returns thing, yeah. The first event I got +3684 during the event, +7500 for completion, and DIM registered a difference of 6684. It would be very coincidental if the 3684 number is being affected and yet we still end up with 684 in the final number, I think. This suggests that the 7500 was reduced.
My first thought was that the 7500 was a reward that was scaled down due to multiple people involved (and kills are exempt or something).
However, in between that and the next event, I got +735 from killing a few guys, but by the time the next event started, DIM was only showing me a difference of 216.
During that event, I got +2295 from kills, then +4015 in a bunch of bursts at the end (I think the event was something like 3000). DIM registered a difference of 4248.
However, all told during those 32 minutes DIM says I gained about 28k XP, which suggests that average gain didn't actually go down much from that first event.
There's definitely something weird going on. Whatever it is seems to be inconsistent, but the theory that a big XP gain triggers something seems to be supported by what I found. It very well could be a modifier that looks at the amount you've gained in the last couple of minutes or something.
Whatever it is, I don't like the fact that the numbers popping up on screen don't seem to be "accurate."

On the subject of what I was looking for, have we gotten any news about tokens in CoO and what is going on with them?
I haven't spent any because I wasn't sure if they were gonna change something around with them. Have they mentioned anything about exactly what changes, if any, there might be? About being able to buy specific items? Or about resetting our token counts or whatever?
