I plan on getting alexstrasza day 1 as well. Can't pass up Warcraft stuff.
Well I can if it is alliance related. But otherwise it is tough
Yeah, I get what you mean. Why play Alliance when you can represent an entire faction dedicated to "Might Makes Right!" Like, in highschool, did you ever want to be the overly angry dude stuffing nerds into lockers? Well we've got a faction for that! Books are for nerds anyway! I mean, awesome, high fantasy cities like Stormwind are SUPER lame when you can go play in dirt inside Orgrimmar. Nope, just roll up an Orc, scream a lot and bash the other faction for defending itself when you tried to raze their cities. Yay Bully Faction!
I may dislike the Horde, guys.
i like the horde because the alliance races are all boring

dwarves are arright in my book, but they're overdone, yknow? no hate here tho. muradin and falstad are m'bois afterall.

night elves are your typical prissy elf race. also they're xenophobic or something right? wow, guys. cmon.
space goats......................
WORGEN ARE COOL THO. WEREWOLVES, Y'ALL.
but you have like three races that pretty much look the same. you gots humans, then you gots stout-sized humans, then you gots mini-sized humans. hmmmm

Draenei: Space Goats is the common lingo, sure, but it was catchy and everyone just went along with it. In actuality, they are just more beefy Satyr types with a tragic history of losing their entire home to the hubris of a few. Their strong connection with the Light and the Naaru is kind of cool and if anything it's different.
Worgen: Yeah, Werwolves. It is super sick. Greymane deserves his S Tier. It's super cool, nothing more to say, agreed.
Night Elves: Do you EVEN Night Elf? Like what is even REMOTELY prissy about these lumbering dudes/ladies that probably rival if not tower over ORCS? They are like 7 or 8ft tall full on BEAST MODE people. They are a strong matriarchy with warrior sentinels who don't mess around. They helped start Druidism; you know, that super awesome class that LITERALLY turns into beasts? Or even if it's the druids like Malfurion who seek to preserve the natural world; HOW IS THAT BAD!? You know ... that world we LIVE in? And they are not even remotely traditional elven looking. Between being giants, beefed, and awesome coloring options, there is nothing ordinary about these elves. Take it back!
Humans: Yes, they are the vanilla. But here's the weird truth we don't often like to acknowledge; they are also necessary. They are a race people can easily identify with to get their foot in the door. "Hey, humans! I'm a human!". Like in D&D, the most played race is Human. Not usually my jam but I get it. But they still have meaningful stories to be told. I straight up shed a man tear over Varian's fall, man. It's why I want his DPS options to be better than they are in game. It's easy to dismiss them because "Vanilla Humans LOL NO THANKS" but they are as important to the fantasy races in this world and the success of the franchise as the rest of the cast. Undersold.
Gnomes: ... ok fine. Everyone gets one. But hey, it gave us Chromie and she's awesome so ... tie? A wash?
Dwarf: Typical but awesome. Screams high fantasy world when you include the stuff. The game is heavily influenced from people's D&D days so this is also important. Stereotyped, sure. But still a goody.
Now, to your credit, the Horde is definitely where the creators got to flex a bit more creative muscle and let themselves put typical monsters as a faction.
Zombies, Minotaurs, Trolls, and Orcs? Well there is some faction disparity so given them pretty blood elves too that will make up over half of what people play. Still, let's break it down.
Forsaken: Awesome. Tragic back story. Dark setting. A zombie but with everything that once made you YOU still in tact ... mostly. But now you eat bodies? Where do you fit in now? It's a great story, no doubt. One that often gets sadly distilled into "Ok Sylvanas, lets poison all these living people and kill them all, even though they are what we used to be. Checks out." Lillian Voss was a great addition to the ranks of the Forsaken and discarded way too quickly. The potential here is amazing and its being mostly wasted as mustache twirling schemes of plagues.
Tauren: Furry Night Elves. That's not even a bad thing. Their cultures with the land I dig. Not a big Minotaur lover but I can still dig it. Definitely scary when angry as seen in that recent cinematic.
Blood Elves: HERE Is your typical prissy elf.
Goblins: More entertaining than gnomes. Plus Travis Willingham voices Gazlowe so it's a pass. Seriously dig their humor over the gnomes so woot.
Orcs: And here is my general hatred for the Horde. Portrayed as bullies. Destroying the lands of the night elves to fuel their own wars. Garrosh's sins are laid at Thrall's feet but it doesn't mean he wasn't a jerk. Like really, I see so much crap in real life about strong people pushing around the weaker and just raw anger, especially recently, that I've got zero tolerance for orcs who just seem to embody this attitude. Like it's supposed to be "Blood and Honor" but that generally gets drowned out. There's potential here, sure, but it's not readily on display. Samuro's cool as hell though and Blademasters in general rock it hardcore. Potential exists but it's not often on display. I have issues with Thrall, for example. He did wrong by Garrosh and the whole "Green Jesus" thing I get, but he was a good example to have at the time as a strong Warchief.
Whew! This was like a textbook Greymane game for me. Only one death! And that was at the very very end due to Chromie hitting Temporal Loop on me under their core (womp womp). Wasn't able to get on Chromie as much as I would have liked.... She was playing very far back and the Thrall/Illidan frontline made it difficult to maneuver to her. Plus I think she had Bye Bye anyway SOOOOO.
But otherwise it was great. Gnawing faces all day. Anytime Kerrigan or Valeera opened up, I'd E>W>Q DEAD.
Q Quest took a while to complete, but it was also Blackheart's, and it was a tank-less game. But I did get it done!
look i'mma be honest
i didn't get the greymane skin in lootboxes so i crafted it and i wanted an excuse to show it off
edit: oh yeah, the skin is fucking dope tho. lightning bullets and lightning claws! disengage and darkflight are all lightning-y! i fucking love it and i'm very satisfied with the tint i chose (stormpunk)
WarCraft II: Tides of Darkness, came out in 1995. I was eleven years old.
I remember going over to my friend Danny's house and playing multiplayer with him and his brother over their LAN. I thought Elven Archers were the coolest -- just the baddest motherfuckers ever.
I don't know why. Because I was eleven, I guess.
He looked at me dead in the face, and he said, "Why the fuck would you be an Elf with a bow, when you can be a Troll with an axe?"
I literally never looked back. Horde for life. Trolls for life.
Also, just as an aside -- I've been into roleplaying games and shit for half my lifetime. Every campaign setting that I've ever played through has been the same old tired, Western-European setting full of Anglo-Saxon-inspired mythology and heroes. I'm bored to fucking death of it. The Horde gives me the opportunity to write and roleplay for, like, not white people, and I really appreciate that. It's a total breath of fresh air. I have tried many, many times to play on the Alliance. It just doesn't work for me. I get bored to death about the time I make it to Stormwind, every time.

I will never forgive Thrall for being the focus of not one but TWO 5 man instances where you have to escort him as he slowly walks from point A to point B so you can watch him do stuff.
Orcs are also the faction that genocided the native inhabitants of their home world (the road to the dark portal is literally paved with the bones of their victims and it's not a short road), got bored and then invaded another world with the intent of killing everyone there. They then got extra whinny when they lost and were imprisoned in camps. They escaped and left for Kalimdor where they immediately started slaughtering the native inhabitants just like before. An orc raised by humans (Thrall) managed to convince a few others races to join up as equals, a state which lasted just as long as it took for the next orc to come along and resume the traditional orc habits of racism and genocide.
Did I mention that this is Blizzard's favorite faction as well?

But I will say Elves with bows are iconic and awesome in my mind's eye.
This is why, now that I've basically concluded my attempts to get spooky loot boxes, I will probably ONLY play AI and brawls until Blizzard gets the patch out that fixes bullshit like that.
one of the coolest things about night elves that the games don't get into at all is that other races get creeped out by them because they don't see a hot purple lady they see all the little minor animal details - eyes that remind them more of wolves and tigers than people, fingernails that seem like claws, teeth that seem like fangs. in lore, there's a sharpness and a feralness to them that people don't like being around
in actual representation, DAMN LOOK AT TYRANDE'S SIDEBUTT I WANT TO HAVE THE SEX WITH THOSE PURPLE THIGHS I LOVE FANTASY SETTINGS IT'S JUST A BUNCH OF HOT BABES OF DIFFERENT COLOURS

In WoW you walk in on a Human/Tauren/Elf? threesome.
Pretty sure it's not "creeped out" by the animal details. It IS the internet, after all.

True enough. I'd argue they might be a little worse off then the other races except maybe the Orcs in regards to planet destroying BS.
Have a podcast to record tonight so I won't be able to log on until later most likely. Maybe right after I get home from work. I expect I will probably get a single game in due to queue times.

Feel your pain, man. I'm going to try and get a few in but I've got a thing to finish up in WoW after today's reset. But I'll probably blow that off to be a dragon lady.
SHE STRAIGHT UP BREATHES FIRE, PEOPLE! Why isn't there more talk of BREATHING GODDAMN FIRE!?
So I'm leaning on Air bombing some heals and fire. Other one looks good too but the windup makes me worried in this somewhat bursty meta.
I think I'm actually gonna buy Dragon Lady, day one.
Which would be a first for me. Honest to god I can't remember the last time I legit bought a Support hero.
I don't really play Support that much, right. I'm pretty good with them! But they're not me. There's definitely some Supports I enjoy playing and all (Uther, Kharazim, Rehgar, Brightwing, etc), but I just don't usually pick them up or play them that much.
On the PTR, Alex q times could go over an hour. Curious to see how high they get on the live server. Gonna guess they'll be pretty long. I did make my first real money purchase on 2.0 in prep for her. Got a bunch of gems so I could buy her launch bundle and get those sweet dark queen skins.
