Windows 10 is showing my external HDD as an internal drive

basically this means that if i want to access it, my computer has to boot up with the external drive plugged in via USB. This is super annoying

any other computer I plug it into recognizes it as a removable disk, plug'n'play, no problem

I still have the option to eject the drive to "Safely Remove Hardware"

I've already tried reinstalling the drivers. Help?

So what is the issue? Is it not recognizing it when you plug it in without booting?

Check disk management under Computer Management, i'd have the drive not connected when you do this to see if it shows up as a mounted drive, if so remove it.
