    Evening.

There has been a surprising eruption of literacy from yours truly.

I am on page 314 and Chapter 15 of Ian Tregellis' The Mechanical.

I've been reading it all day. It's a good book! I don't think it's a great book, but it's definitely a good read for any of y'all who're into alternate history and science fiction. Or a tight, tense story.

I think it'll be folly to stop reading it before I fall asleep but I don't think that will keep me from trying.

it's almost certainly found in a rambling cocaine paragraph in deleuze

"and the morning stars I have seen
and the gengars who are guiding me" -- W.S. Merwin

Why do we surf the Web?

    That verb makes no sense

We should like, crawl the Web, or clamber over it, or something

Surfing was shorthand for coolness back in the early nineties back when the term was likely coined.

Crawl was the name of a Pauly Shore character. These are facts.

    You can't surf that either

    Oh wait here it is
On Dec. 12, 2001 I informed Mark of his "first post" rights. He said,
"I can tell you why I used the phrase. One of my favorite sports is windsurfing, so 'surfing' is never far from my mind... that and extending the 'channel surfing' metaphor to the internet because we thought that browsing was an important way of finding information. If you have ever seen my garage (I think there are 8 or 10 sailboards there) or my office (1 board) know why I would say something about surfing the internet."

Whoa, The Net had a one season TV series on USA in the late 90s AND a direct-to-DVD sequel in the mid 00s (titled The Net 2.0).
