I would be more than happy to say there’s an explosive propellant that gets the thing out of the barrel and then the rocket propellant takes over, because that is way dumber and 40k is all about maximum dumb.

100% the reason they are "rocket propelled" in the first place is because it sounded cool.

So, Starn's disciples' is sold out on their web store, but all the kill team stuff is still in production right? I'm wondering because my local store still has that box and I really like that model for Starn, but if it'll still be around for awhile I plan on getting the Aeronautica Imperialis box, and the Splintered Fang and Cypher Lords for Warcry at some point. And then Sisters come out in November.

Right now GW produces many of the supplement cardstock playing fields and cards for necromunda, Bloodbowl, and Killteam as a one and done. It's really dumb because there are often rules in these cardsets that aren't available in any other publications and so far GW hasn't made any of these card rules available digitally.

Hey everyone I’m thinking about picking up some warhammer models mostly just to paint and focus on some techniques like edge highlighting wet blending and layering. Mostly so I can practice on the same type of thing, over sane over again (because in hate myself I guess) I might eventually make a kill team or something but that isn’t really goal one, does anyone have any suggestions on what to get? I want a marine set of some description but really don’t really know what to get.

Ok are you looking to do models you will learn the highlighting and such on but are willing to show people to get feedback if you feel you need some help? Does it matter which? Do you have an ideal of what paints you will be using or colors?

Well, if you want many Marine models with similar attributes, may I suggest a tactical squad? Or perhaps something with more dynamic poses, like intercessors?

Look I kind of know that there is a mark up for stuff here, the intercessors are seventy Australian, but that’s probably the limit of what I’d like to spend, I’m planning on spending some significant time painting each of them so it’s fine if they are a little expensive.

Hey so there's tons of different types of Space Maries which are playable in Kill Team. The correct answer is to find a set whose aesthetics you like, and pick them up! There's tons of variety and lots of different personality to them all. I've got a brief summary below with some links to the games workshop webstore:

    The Imperium of Man:
    Codex Space Marines:
https://www.games-workshop.com/en-AU/Space-Marines-Primaris-Intercessors <--- New and upgraded primaris marines. Stronger, tougher, some say even more handsome!
https://www.games-workshop.com/en-AU/Space-Marine-Tactical-Squad-2017 <--- Old School, bit shorter space marines. The bread and butter of 40K

These are the bread and butter space marines. But their paint schemes and personality vary quite a bit! You have everything varying from the very by-the-rules Ultramarines to the tacticool Raven Guard to the Space Mongols, aka the White Scars. There's basically a variety of codex marines for every color palette so this is a safe choice! I'm not listing a bunch here, but you've got crusader marines, half-robot marines, grumpy marines etc.

In addition to those there non-codex marines. These guys will use a bit different rules, and have very particular personalities.

We have Space Vampires (Blood Angels):
    https://www.games-workshop.com/en-AU/Blood-Angels-Tactical-Squad-2017

    Space Werewolves (...Space Wolves):
    https://www.games-workshop.com/en-AU/Space-Wolves-Pack-2016

Even more outside the norm, there are inquisition-tied Chapters. First off you have the Deathwatch, who take the best of the best from all of the other chapters to be the super double best. They're real good at fighting aliens. These guys have tooons of customizability:
    https://www.games-workshop.com/en-AU/deathwatch-kill-team

Did you want your Space Marines to be even more space knighty? And maybe also psychic? Well then I've got good news for you, there's the Grey Knights!
    https://www.games-workshop.com/en-AU/Grey-Knights-Terminators-2017

Oh and there's also Dark Angels:
    https://www.games-workshop.com/en-AU/Dark-Angels-Company-Veterans-Squad-2017

    Chaos Space Marines:
There's also a ton of these, but basically they're you're either going to get some regular old chaos space marines, or one of the special warbands.

Let's start off with the regular old Chaos Space Marines (which just got new models this year!). These guys can worship one (or all) of the four gods of chaos, so you can build tons of individual personality into them! Also spikes! Wow, lots of spikes!
    https://www.games-workshop.com/en-AU/Chaos-Space-Marines-2019

Or, if you'd rather just being disgusting (and/or resilient), you've got the Death Guard, who are very gross and very much like Nurgle. They've got meat so tender it probably would fall right off the bone, but you probably don't want to eat it:
    https://www.games-workshop.com/en-AU/Death-Guard-Plague-Marines-2017

Do you like the idea of vaguely Egyptian Space Marines? Well have I got the army for you! The thousand sons are all about magic and how it can make your life better and/or turn your body to ash and trap your soul inside a hermetically seal suit of armor!
    https://www.games-workshop.com/en-AU/rubric-marines

Oh and there's also Dark Angels:
    https://www.games-workshop.com/en-AU/Dark-Angels-Company-Veterans-Squad-2017

You can probably find prices a bit cheaper than these through resellers or your local gaming store

Maybe some easy to build stuff for a start to train on?
Those kits are generally a bit cheaper and for 40k space marines and death guard marines, and for aos undead have enough different stuff to expand into small armies.
    https://www.games-workshop.com/de-DE/searchResults?Nr=AND(sku.siteId%3ADE_gw%2Cproduct.locale%3Ade_DE_gw)&Nrs=collection()%2Frecord[product.startDate+%3C%3D+1569751740000+and+product.endDate+%3E%3D+1569751740000]&Ntt=Easy+to+build&_dynSessConf=986875818759094365&_dyncharset=UTF-8&view=all.
Also the AoS warbands have a range of really different kind of models for trying different techniques.

Ah, okay, I thought it was more about the painting. The quality of the easy to build models is generally really good, just less variety and they don't need to be glued.

Death Guard, as Pip says, have a pretty nice range. A lot of character and many different textures for painting

You will need: soapy water, sprue cutters, a hobby knife, plastic glue, tacky putty, paint primer for plastic, a few differently sized paintbrushes, a water pot, clean water, a palette (wet or dry), paints, and a well-aerated room.

First, wash your sprues in soapy water. This will remove the chemical they use to remove the plastic from the mold, and will make your parts stick together better. Rinse and let dry.
Use the sprue cutters to remove the parts from the sprue. There's a trick to this that gives a clean cut, unfortunately I have bargained away the words to describe it.
Use the hobby knife to remove the mold lines. Mold lines are lines of plastic that appear where a line Should Not Be; you'll know em when you see em.
If you're going to prime your parts before they're assembled, use tacky putty (the kind that you use to put posters up on a wall) to cover the area of the parts that you intend to put glue on. Paint primer + glue = less effective glue.
If you're using a spray can primer, FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE CAN, and DON'T PUT TOO MUCH ON, NOR PUT THE NOZZLE TOO CLOSE TO THE PLASTIC. That is all.
THIN YOUR PAINTS, and also CLEAN YOUR PAINTBRUSHES AFTER YOUR PAINTING SESSION. Oh, and DON'T GET PAINT NEAR THE METAL THINGIE WHAT HOLDS THE BRISTLES. It's a pain to get out, and if it dries, the brush will lose its tip.

    And as always, have fun!

I do dislike finding sprue bits and mold lines after I primed the model
I have been working on my Harlequin but I lack certain paints so
    tct78y9x3txn.png
So to keep myself out the rut and keep on painting I painted a Sslyth. I wanted not to do the generic green snake but a gaboon viper but as someone said if you need a magnifying glass to paint the detail what was the point? You would be the only one to know it's there. So I did a different snake
