Beat Saber seems like it's a halfway decent cardio workout on harder songs.

There's a new bundle coming out on December 14th that has the psvr, two waggle controllers, the camera, Borderlands 2 VR and Beat Saber for 350.

    Fuck am I tempted.

So hyped for my PSVR today! I want to buy one more game to go along with Moss and Astrobot, and was thinking Tetris, Beat Saber, or Rez Infinite. Any thoughts on which would give me the best bang for my buck?

Also, do VR games tend to go on sale often and for deep discounts? They are a bit more expensive than I was expecting, so I'll probably want to watch for sales for some of the stuff I'm more mildly interested in checking out.

The only one of these three that I've played is Beat Saber and while I think it's really fucking cool and fun, if you're looking for a lot of content, you might want to wait. At the moment, it only has 16 songs in it and while they spread it out well (there's a whole campaign that has different difficulty levels as you play through different ones plus different modifiers at certain points to keep things interesting) I wouldn't blame anyone for thinking it's lacking. They've been talking about releasing song packs but we don't know for sure what they'll look like, numbers wise or price wise. (I've heard 10 songs each pack, $10 a pack but again, nothing confirmed unless I've missed something)

As far as the sales, most of my PSVR games were bought either half off or like 60% off. You might have to wait but you can find them on good sales here and there.

Tetris and Beat Saber are both really enthralling in VR. I would say BS is more bang for your buck as it were, unless you really enjoy the pure zen of Tetris. The extra modes in Tetris are really good.

We own all three of your second picks. Rez is a only going to be a good choice if you absolutely love Rez and want it in yet another incarnation. I mean, it's a good game and all that, but it's still the same Rez that it has always been, just in VR.

Tetris Effect is a better 'chill' game than Rez in every way. It's even produced by the same guy who designed Rez so it has a lot of the same kind of trippy feels.

Beat Saber is sublime but requires a lot of physical stamina. If you're more on the 'couch' side of a Couch-to-5k plan, then it might not be for you (yet?).

Either Tetris or Beat Saber would be ideal choices.

Fruit Ninja VR will also test your stamina.

Skyrim VR has, of course, a lot of content and has been on PSN sales quite often.

    Superhot VR is totally amazing.

All in all, every PSN sale usually has a couple of VR games on sale.
It happens so often, that I might just be inclined to wait it out whenever I want a particular VR game.

I also learnt that during summertime it is way to hot for a VR helmet, so I don’t think I’ll buy VR games during the warmer seasons.

Just Cause 4 did indeed unlock at midnight, so that'll be cool to come home to today.

Also, I did my patented maneuver of debating whether or not to buy a game on sale and then missing the sale price and buying it anyway. Picked up Lego DC Villains, and I quite enjoyed it. Blew through the story really quick basically playing it all day yesterday. Fun goofy story that incorporates your created character instead of just a thing you do once for an achievement.

Tt went all out with the voice-acting this time too. Almost every character has their primo VA. Joker is Hamill, Harley/Raven are Tara Strong, Beast Boy is the Beast Boy guy, and Conroy is Batman. Also Darkseid is voiced by Michael Ironside which was sweet. Now for the real fun part of exploring for 100% completion. When in free-play, if your character doesn't have the right ability to do something, the game will auto highlight a correct character when you open the character screen which is nice. Relatively bug free for a Lego game too, which is also nice.

Probably wont wow you too much if you're just tired of Lego games, but DC Villains is one of the better entries I feel like Tt has put out in a while.

I picked up Spider-Man during the BF sale, and finished the main storyline last night.

Gotta say, I was impressed. Really enjoyed it, the story, the dialogue, the combat, even the piles of collectibles and "collectibles" found in the zones are generally fun.

For a game as occasionally heavy in Quick Time Events as it was, I found them generally inoffensive, though there were a few that I had to go at a few times to get them right, and a few others that I was pretty proud to have sailed through on the first go.

100%'ing everything will definitely add some time to the playthrough, but I'm mostly killing time with things that aren't just Fortnite while waiting for Anthem to unlock (well, the demo at least) in about 2 months. Once I finish up Spider-Man, it might be time to dig into The Fractured But Whole, which I think I'm only an hour or so into.

Just spent the last 4 hours playing Just Cause 4, and it's great. 0 technical or performance issues like there were in JC3. Looks slightly ugly, almost like a last gen game, but I guess that's a sacrifice made for getting such a huge map and the sheer amount of chaos you can cause. You get the three grapple gadgets and the jetpack wingsuit really fast too. Like less than an hour into the game.

The variations and mods for the gadgets are sweet too. Instead of helium, my fulton balloons are now full of hydrogen and they turn into satan's dank farts when they get shot. I have the reel set to high tension, so I can pull down entire concrete watchtowers and have it modified so that once the reel finishes, it emits a big electric pulse. So I can tether two mooks together and once they hit *BOOP* they rocket off in opposite directions like electro-fireworks. Also, letting enemies repel out of the transport chopper and then yanking the chopper down onto them, is just the best thing.

Also the guns in JC4 are all so cool now, thanks to the secondary feature on just about every gun. There's an AR with a grenade launcher, an AR that also releases little drone buddies, an LMG that deploys a shield to become a fortified position, an SMG that has mini-missiles, and a shotgun that has surprisingly long range and fires stun grenades.

Haven't even tried any of the crazy sounding science weapons yet, either. I know there's a wind gun, and the trophy list has one for turning enemies into cows with a cow gun. So that should be fun.

Edit: Also, while I think the game does look a little ugly in the visuals department, the explosions are still gorgeous.

Also, dark areas are kind of too dark and there's no brightness settings in the options menu.

I bounce off of Just Cause the same way I've bounced off of stuff like Hitman in the past (nothing that I have not played the new Hitmans/Hitmen games yet so I'm not sure that this applies to them). I'm super bad at "finding the fun" in system-heavy open world stuff. Interestingly, I think the use of little micro-narrative random events is why Red Dead completely hits for me, and I'd probably have the same frustrations with that game if I were just told to go out and do interesting stuff.

Modern Hitmans are more about the fun of being a fly on the wall for a bunch of knowingly absurd melodrama between characters, which you can subtly manipulate to set up targets or even just get other people to kill each other. It's a lot more like Red Dead's world of stranger missions, except your role is not to help the people involved.

Tetris Effect is awesome in VR, but it's the first game where the low resolution is kind of bothering me. The lines on the blocks are just a bit to jaggy and jittery, and it gives me a bit of a headache. It's worth putting up with though because the overall experience is great.

Super Hot is incredible in VR, but it's almost too unnerving when a bullet hits you in the head. It's also the first game where the tracking has been a bit wonky.

Beat Saber is the first game so far that has wowed me with the immersiveness of the motion controls, and it has worked pretty much flawlessly for me so far. The pure joy of playing this game cannot be overstated.

Astro Bot is just brilliant all around and has convinced me that VR is the coolest new thing in entertainment in a very long time. Holy fucking wow is it amazing. I'm just on the second world and there are at least a dozen moments that have been mind blowing. Using your controller as a grappling hook and then flinging your robot off of it is so rad!

I should probably wait for sales now, unless somebody can recommend something else that is a mind blowing must play. And what are the other gems in general that I should watch for sales for?

If you liked Astro Bot, you'll probably like Moss. It's also a platformer, but you have a fantasy mouse with a tiny sword as your buddy, and it's pretty amazing. I would rate it as a must-play.

Rez Infinite is pretty trippy and great and is an excellent VR conversion of an existing game (it actually makes the game 10x easier than the original, since you are aiming by literally looking at stuff), but the new mode after you beat the game is a great addition. Wait for sale.

As far as rhythm games, you are probably covered with Beat Saber, but Thumper has a VR mode that is really trippy, and Thumper is a very challenging and high speed rhythm game to boot. Wait for a sale (which happens often, I think).

I Expect You To Die is a great VR puzzle game. You are a spy caught in a Bond-esque death trap and have to escape. Wait for a sale.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes is explicitly co-op and requires another person to play with you, but it's one of the best timed puzzle party games out there. Buy now if you have anyone in your life you want to play with.

The original PS VR Playroom is also an awesome way to play with friends, since it incorporates a lot of 1 VR + 4 controller party games. It's also free.

Also, check out Hulu. They have a VR streaming mode, and some of the stuff on there is fun to experience. My favorite was a VR immersion camera in the middle of a jungle near a jaguar bait, and you can see the jaguars walk right up to you. It's free!

I could only see the Vita version in the PS Plus Free section of the PS Store (the store.playstation.com website). When I "purchased" the Vita version, the PS4 version showed up in my download list.

Usually they have duplicate copies of the cross-buy game listed, one for each cross-buy console that it's on. Not sure why it doesn't show up that way now.

My jetpack wingsuit in JC4 also fires missiles, which enables me to do flyby airstrikes. So when I see juicy little facilities with all those red fuel cylinders all over, I can just buzz by and blast em. Just found out it's not always an enemy facility though... Blasted the fuck out of one and popped my parachute to watch the carnage unfold. Explosions all over the place, and some people got into a van to try and drive off, only to be t-boned by a large cylinder being propelled across the ground like a land torpedo. It was awesome! And then I landed and noticed they were all civilian utility workers or something...

Getting crazy drift on this thing, which according to Google could be caused by many things, including my walls being too white. Might have to figure something out because re-calibrating it constantly is annoying. I'm just trying to watch Youtube, why do I have to slowly turn my neck?

For pure trippiness, I can recommend Polybius, which works on regular TV, 3DTV, and PSVR.

Fruit Ninja VR is very silly, but fun and exhausting.

Statik VR is a very immersive puzzle game (your hands are stuck in a box, which corresponds to you holding the controller; you press buttons and try to figure out what everything does).

Farpoint VR is really really good with the Aim Controller, and has the best method of “press a certain button and I will draw the area which the camera sees” so that you can position yourself at the correct position.

Try out the Kitchen VR demo to shit your pants.

When I play PSVR, I close the curtains to make the room as dark as possible, and I put a cloth or blanket on the framed puzzles behind me (they are frames with glass, which work like a mirror of some sorts, which results in drifting because the camera mistakes reflected lights on the helmet as actual lights). Also, sit right in front of the camera (when I was watching 3D Blurays with the PSVR from my comfy recliner chair, which was slightly off the side, it started to drift a little, because I wasn’t looking straight at the camera.

Those are the tricks I use to minimize drift.

Well, it's only $35 so I picked up that Mutant Year Zero game. It's really rad! It's like XCOM 2 a little bit, except when you're not in combat you move in real time. After you spot enemies in the distance, you can turn off your flashlights and creep around ambushing stragglers to thin the enemy numbers before the big fight. Once you get into full combat, it's just XCOM. Like, if you've ever played an XCOM game, you do not need a tutorial for this at all.

I love exploring and finding old world artifacts, because the descriptions and character reactions are hilarious. Found a boombox and Dux (the appropriately named mutant duck) was like "Careful, do not push those buttons! This is called a boombox, it's an ancient explosive device." Also found an iPod that the called a hipster fruit-tester, and it was described as a device the ancient ones used to test the ripeness of fruit.

There's too many games I like that do the whole "as a service" model that require a time commitment from me... New Battlefield V content has started rolling out and I'm digging it. Fortnite season 7 begins today, New AC Odyssey content is rolling out. Goodness! Thankfully, or I guess mercifully, I've cooled off on Call of Duty a little bit.

I also have Just Cause 4, I want the platinum for Lego DC Villains(but at least I can say I beat it!), and I still need to beat 1 and a half Spyro games. Gonna try really hard to resist Smash Bros tomorrow! Any time I even think about it, I'll flick myself in the forehead or something :P

Is The second tomb raider never going to go on sale again? They keep putting the new one on sale and I get excited to finally grab rise and it's always still a $60 game

Square Enix would really really really really really like you to buy a copy of the third game.

I have so many years of steam training me that if a new game is on sale, it's only because the whole franchise is on sale... Square is messing with my conditioning!
