MK is a weird case for me because MK9 was basically what I wanted out of MK. All the fighters from 2 and 3? Done. I don’t need new characters or kids or anything like that.
it tries to have a symphony of the night control feel to a fault and feels really dated and stiff as a result
and the randomly generated levels just aren't compelling compared to more modernly designed metroidvanias
if you love the genre and have exhausted a lot of the better ones go for it, but i would not recommend it as a first pick over them
I played it at PAX like... 4 years ago and thought it was going to be great. But I just kinda stopped following it and meant to pick it up. I love generated levels and SotN so it felt like it'd be perfect. Ah, well, I'll wait until it's < $10. Thanks!
at the risk of being a debbie downer, you can probably pass on chasm and moonlighter

Moonlighter still sounds like a pretty cool gameplay loop... But assuming the dungeon combat isn't too complex?
I didn't play MKX but I do like the idea of the new cast of characters instead of giving the later games the MK9 story treatment.
Because otherwise, we have to start going into the Shinnok era of MK games no one cared about, like with MK11.
Well that's the beauty of MK11. 99% certain they're going with time travel to some degree. They can bring back all the classic characters people love, plus introduce new ones. Unlike MKX where a lot of them were perma-dead.
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.

I need help. Seriously it Steam all over again with the PS4 now. I look at the sales and see potential great games with interesting saving. On the other end, my backlog of games is already bad and recently bought Battlefield V, RDR2, Spiderman, Fallout76 and NHL19 so there is no way if I buy something that I'll get to play it in any reasonable time frame.

Don't do it on the PS4 unless we know absolutely sure that the games will run on the PS5 and beyond. It's really the only reason I justify buying games that I won't play immediately on Steam... I know that I'll always be able to play it.
Man, I'm being really tempted by the $200 Moss/Astrobot PSVR bundle that's apparently coming back this weekend. I have so, so many other games to play (100+ in backlog, getting 15+ new games across PS4, PSN, and Switch for either myself or my kids at Christmas), and I really should wait until the eventual PSVR2 or whatever when it launches for the PS5 in a few years.
...but Astrobot and Beat Saber and Moss and Tetris Effect and Thumper VR and RE7 VR all seem great.

Astrobot and Beat Saber are such great and new experiences that they completely reinvigorated my enthusiasm for video games. I haven't sat with a huge grin on my face constantly surprised and enthralled with a game in a long time, like I have been with Astrobot. It really feels like some next level shit. And Beat Saber makes you feel like a badass techno jedi, and is fun as hell.
In short, VR has made me feel like a kid again, and giddy with anticipation every day to play video games.

I have yet to try VR of any kind (not PSVR, not Vive/Rift, not even the cheapo phone inside cardboard ones), so I wouldn't be surprised if the "wonder" of VR hit me just as hard (if not harder) as it did you.
Since I wouldn't know anything else, I'm guessing the shortcomings of the actual PSVR hardware (lower resolution) would be lost on me. But, I hear the giant bomb guys bagging on how it doesn't work well for them and there's technical issues. And, I'll be on a stock PS4, not pro... You haven't had any real problems with drifting or whatever, or are you enjoying it in spite of those issues?
VR is so good but I decided to go with an Oculus Rift. Bummed I'll miss out on Astrobot and other exclusives but I've got a beefy enough computer and there are lots of freebies on Steam to take advantage of.

The resolution is definitely noticeably low, but this is my first VR experience too, so I have no idea how much lower it is than the PC headsets. Astrobot and Moss are designed really well, with great animation and detailed colourful worlds, that the low resolution is quickly forgotten (by me), and Beat Saber and Super Hot have simple enough graphics that they look quite smooth. Tetris is the only game that gives me some trouble visually, because staring at those blurry blocks for too long starts to bug my eyes.
As far as tracking, I have had a nearly perfect experience. My setup is pretty perfect though, because I have a large space in my basement that is super dark even during the day, so I'm guessing that if you can't blackout an area, or have the PS camera facing any windows you might have a worse time with it.
Realm Royale is available on PS4 now with a founder's pack. Normally $15 but currently on sale for $9. It's that battle royale game from the Paladins developers. Seems alright, pretty neat take on the genre. There's 4 character classes Warrior, Assassin, Hunter, and Mage that each have unique starting skills and stat bonuses when using specific weapon types (Staffs for Mage, Bows/Crossbows for Hunter). You loot chests for new skills and weapons as you play. anything you don't want, you scrap for runes that you can take to a forge to craft better loot.
There does appear to be some OP skills though. I had a flare skill that had like a 2 second cooldown that was basically a wallhack. Everytime I fired it, it would highlight any enemies in my immediate vicinity.
Also, it can take a hot minute sitting in the queue to find a game. I've seen people complaining online that there are AI bots mixed into matches as well, which is probably true since I got 6 kills and finished 5th place in my first game. I don't view that as a negative though. I'd absolutely love to be able to play games like Fortnite by myself against AI.
But anyway, Realm Royale is pretty neat. Worth looking into if you like BR games.

With the PSN holiday sale going on it says on the banners at the top that it ends on 12/18 at 8am. But when I check more info on a game it says price good until 1/15/2019. Which one should I believe?

This is Week 1 of 5 weeks for the sale. Presumably different games will rotate out every Tuesday.

Moonlighter still sounds like a pretty cool gameplay loop... But assuming the dungeon combat isn't too complex?
Moonlighter was too simple. I really enjoyed it for the first three dungeons, but after that I needed a change desperately, and ended up just giving up on the game. There were still 2 more dungeons to go, and I just didn't feel compelled at all to keep doing the same exact thing two more times. It needed to change it up, and didn't.

yeah, me, too.
They put out a roadmap for all their upcoming changes about a month after the game came out, with stuff like more weapons and armor and shop upgrades and minibossess in dungeons and it sounds like good changes so...I'll come back to it when it's all done.
With the exam season over I was finally able to install God of War
This game is very pretty, and loads super fast, which is handy as I'm dying a lot
I have resolved to Git Gud rather than turn the difficulty down, though, because the combat is satisfying and I never feel like I've died to bullshit
Not sure what difficulty you are playing in, but if it is the give me God of War difficulty you cannot actually change it. You would have to start all the way over.

Feels like Amazon has had a rough time keeping stuff in stock.
I had to order it at Gamestop last night. You have no idea how much it hurts me.

Word/rumor is that it's a deal set by Sony, so it should be everywhere.

That’s what it looks like, but every game I was looking at said pricing is good until at least the first.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see more games added as we go, though. There’s some big games that are conspicuous by their absence.

Fuck no - I'm prideful, not a masochist
I got it too. I’m paralyzed by indecision on what team to use. So I started three.
Wood Elves > everything else.
My Necro team is doing fairly decently in the low TV early stages of the old world league
I want to make a fantasy football joke, but I'm not quite sure of the best route.
