Masterwork is not exactly what I'd ask for, but it is a huge step in the right direction. It shows that they want to make something special to chase, but not totally tied to RNG. I agree it should be a bit more (an extra perk to unlock, make the mods really good, etc.), but I like it as a first step.
Vendor changes all look great.
Mod vendor change sounds great - I'm not sure about dismantling blues giving me a chance at materials... unless it's like a 1/3 chance.
Some good fixes to chest cooldowns, vendor flashing and other little stuff.
I guess I have to live with the fact that I am in a huge minority that really cares about the prestige stuff. It bugs me that the raid armor isn't on the list of things getting ornaments, and that I am relatively certain that you won't be able to buy prestige raid gear with tokens. Couple this with the fact that a new raid (layer cake) is coming out, and the existing dwindling population willing to do prestige raids, and I don't know if I'll ever finish my prestige sets for the other two characters. I'm a snowflake, I know.
What we don't see is underlying system changes that folks are clamoring for, whether that's pipe-dream stuff like 6v6 or bringing back special weapons, or totally obvious should have been there stuff like a vault that doesn't suck or kiosks.
Raids (the encounters and rewards) are the single most important thing in this game to me.
The new Raid Lair armor is gonna have ornaments. I assume that the Prestige will as well considering they are looking to add
Better incentives for players who complete challenging Prestige activities
We’re targeting a January update to provide better incentives to complete Prestige activities
Right, but the existing set won't (or they don't list it).
There's a few things that I was hoping to see more on (namely PVP changes and shaders), but overall I like every change they're implementing and that we have firm timelines on at least some of them.
The improvement to factions and chests and pretty much all the other changes they're making are all great moves. Excited to see quitter penalties being introduced as well.
One that I might be misreading...
[DEC 5] Armor Ornaments will be added to some existing Armor sets for more visual customization without losing your Shaders or Mods
These ornaments will be unlocked by completing objectives specific to each set, and are permanently unlocked account-wide, just like Exotic Weapon ornaments They will be applied to the base pieces that you may already have collected, and can now unlock on Vendors if not
Does this mean that the ornaments will be at vendors or that armor pieces will be unlocked at vendors? Like I can unlock and grab new IO pants any time I want?
You should be able to buy any piece of a set from it's respective vendor now. The example screenshot showed Shaxx selling the Crucible set for 10 tokens per piece, which is weird because an engram package is 20.
My take away was that a slot of armor isn't unlocked for purchase until you get it from a package. That sorta undermines this as an anti-rng thing but does mean it's a stealth collections tab.

Yeah, thats pretty normal.
Happened in Destiny 1 as well. The introduced new armor sets for every raid towards the end of Destiny 1 and ornaments that corresponded with it. All my older Raid armor had to get thrown out for the new ornamentable stuff. Gave me more reason to run the content, though, so that was good.
Go get that new hotness gear from the new Raid Lair Prestige and ornament that up. Yeah, it will probably be harder to get for some people if they tighten down on exploits in the new Raid, though.

Looking at the UI mock-up above, seems like you unlock them for purchase at set ranks.

It's exactly like it was in D1, with the language of D2. Instead of "Must be Rank 5" it's "Claim 5 Reward Engrams..."
I mean, maybe the salt has clouded my vision, but isn't all that stuff in Destiny 1? Heroic strikes giving rewards? Faction specific armor? Vendors with purchasable weapons? Xur with the roll an exotic? Consumables that improve glimmer rates during activities? Three of Coins?
I guess that's good, but wtf have they been doing these past 3 years omg.
That is some fuckawful PS4 exclusive announcement timing.
It's been known. For about a month or more. And that video has no relationship to Bungie.
First I heard of it, but I wasn't blaming Bungie on that one since it was a totally different group. It was more like "man, can they catch a break?" but good (?) to know it was already out there.
So that was somewhat disappointing. I'm not sure what they could have said that would have been an appropriate message to people wanting a wide variety of information that is still in flux. I know they couldn't tailor a message specifically to me. But I think unless they do these style of updates more frequently, this isn't going to be enough.
People who wanted PVP information (whether modes or balance or fundamental changes) basically got nothing.
While I felt like some of the fundamentals are solid, the base state is still problematic. We can't fundamentally shift PVP out of 4v4. We won't get increases in ability recharge. We can't really see a change in the Kinetic/Energy/Power triangle. They are still strapped primarily by the lack of weapons/armor since variance in individual weapons and armor is low. They didn't really address mods, or the imbalance in class specific mod setups.
So while I guess there was some content that was solid, I feel like they mostly took some time to talk about things a bit earlier than they normally do, and repurposed the stream into a written preview (Masterworks coming out so soon to me means they were planning on showing it today anyway), I don't think it really was the fulcrum shift that was needed. I expect the wider community will remain hate-filled.
(The fucking Grimoire is still gone. Why the hell can't you just add the Grimoire, guys. It's a solved problem.)
I mean they did say that this wasn't intended to address the sandbox, and said at the end:
"With the launch of Curse of Osiris, and the beginning of Season 2, you can expect to see a full suite of patch notes that will document all of the changes outlined above, as well as additional gameplay and sandbox tuning changes the team is making to improve Destiny 2."
So all of the stuff we want to see in PvP, aside from a move away from 4v4, could still be happening. I'm at least cautiously optimistic, instead of positive that I was going to quit Destiny for a while.

hang on buddy if you’re asking me to read what they wrote and interpret it

Yep. It was basically a written preview of the DLC things, instead of a stream wherein they would pretend to be happy to present these things to a toxic chat and get memed to death.
“I used to draw, hard to admit that I used to draw...”
Probably my biggest concern with all of these changes is that they make the game more rewarding to play, but there isn't much there that makes Destiny 2 more fun to play.
Patrol rewards are improved? That's great! I'm glad they're making the change. But I've already had my fill of patrols.
Vendors sell their gear now? That's great! But I have everything I want already.
The prestige raid will be more rewarding? That's great! But it needs to be fun instead of terrible.
I am genuinely excited and happy for these changes, but I don't see them extending my playtime too much.

Ok cool... cuz that would be super exciting. Being able to pick and buy pieces instead of more grinding for random chances at the Gensym pieces I want? Yes please!
I still have a warlock to get through the story and try to get kitted out and these changes will make the whole thing that much smoother. I'd basically given up on it because I couldn't imagine going through another endless round of RNG nonsense to try to get the good stuff.
And maybe now I'll finally get a Crest of Alpha Lupi.
Strike scoring really should come back, along with some real achievements, the current list is pretty lame.
For real though. It's a game, give me a million leaderboards. Give me a leaderboard for every gun, let me know who the best Fool's Remedy user in the Crucible is, give me a leaderboard for every strike, let's know who has melee'd the most majors to death in the Pyrmidion.

We know you have the data, let us see it!
I need to know how many times I've reloaded a gun when the magazine was one bullet short of full.
Oh good. Random rolls... As though Destiny didn't already feel like a gated boring game that I only play for 3 hours a week after reset. God only knows why I bother with even that.
Oh my goodness, I'm finally home and finally have a chance to upload and post this...
SO... the other day I had to run my new Xbox Hunter through his requisite Competitive matches to unlock CtA. First one was a win but rather uneventful. The second match though!!!
Two rounds apiece in Survival on The Dead Cliffs, and it's looking fairly even between the teams... round 5 loads up and two of my rando's have either dropped or been kicked. It's just rando calrissian "His Doodness07" and yours truly vs 4 randos on Alpha team. This doesn't bode well (maybe I should have turned on fireteam chat)!
Him and I take a one point lead and then bunker down and just keep dumping covering fire out doorways when anyone comes close. The enemy is running full deathball but can't dig us out to steal their lead back and the clock runs down... we take the win.
Round six! Still Doodness and I vs 4 randos and nobody's JIP'd to our team. The enemy team has spread out a bit to try and either spawn camp us or just harass us to death.... 4v2 it should be a no brainer for them.
What ends up happening?!?!?!?! (spoilered for dramatic effect)
DOODNESS AND I START TAKING SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!!!! Guerilla warfare at it's finest... Doodness bunkers down in that broken building at the back and drops anyone who gets too close while I engage in a few minutes of straight run and gun warfare. Round six to us for the win!
The other day when I was Iron Bannering, I managed to nova bomb 3 of 4, and was sad, because 4 killed me - he was right there. Then he walked into the nova bomb and died, and an entire fireteam was gone, just like that.

A) well done there is no JIP in the competitive playlist which is why leavers are bad people
