Yakuza is filling to the absolute brim with real world products like Mountain Dew and I assume the lovingly-rendered various boozes.

So yeah, I'm not terribly fussed by real world products existing in digital mock-ups of the real world.

if you get multiple brands and they're in the background its fine

the verizon ad in that alan wake clip is the kind of annoying interstitial ad that I will violently adblock outside of any gaming context, and the peppy music is so miserably out of place with the atmosphere of that sequence

I read this as being pronounced like Energeezer, and now I want a battery brand that shows the longevity of the product by having ads where the mascot is an old man that just won’t die.

I played ff15 for the first time a few weeks ago and I thought the cup noodle quest was hilarious

I had a damn good time with that game actually

The cup noodle thing was fucking great.

It reminded me of the head and shoulders gag in Evolution or that scene in Wayne’s World. Product placement so blatant and self aware that it loops around from awful to hilarious.

I chose the food porn picture of the post-sidequest cup of noodles they make as my beat the game certificate pic and I think I made the right choice

Like yea the Cup Noodle thing is funny but that's definitely not something all or even most brands can get away with. Cup Noodle are apparently troll-y shits for a lot of their advertising. And even if others imitated that, it wouldn't take many for it to wear thin.

The Energizer Bunny has begged for death for years now, but he can’t stop going.

So I saw this sentiment on twitter, I don't particularly care for the man but what did Greg Miller do?

His friend was a sexist Dirtbag, but beyond that I dunno. I know some people really don't like watching him, but I'm not sure that qualifies him as "terrible" like some other people.

I've got kind of a low opinion of the mercenary way that Kinda Funny positions themselves as corporate pitch men, but I've got no problems with Greg Miller as a person.

eh, he's admittedly the least bad of the bunch, but his defenses of colin moriarty are pretty egregious, imo

I actually like when there are spoofed brands in things. It’s fun to see the creative twists the writers put on stuff.

I like it less when it’s just changing a single letter and keeping the real brand’s look.

Unless that's the joke. Everytime I have to buy new electronics I make jokes about Sorny and Magnetbox

I'm more of a Somy and Nintenbo guy

I guess I will be the one person over here in the corner hoping that from makes another armored core. The hardware is here to do something really impressive with mech combat and no one seems to be up to the challenge. I am not biased, I have a dark souls and bloodborne tattoo, but I think they need to expand a bit since right now their entire portfolio is dark grim fantasy with a touch of madness.

I've been dying for another Armored Core for quite a while too. Hopefully Mechwarrior 5 revives the genre.

In other game awards news, Polygon just announced Zelda: BotW as their Game of the Year.

I really am looking forward to Giant Bomb deliberations.

Wasn't this already confirmed? To pretty satisfied fanfare I thought.

They're working on 3 games. One is Armored Core, and one is a new IP that's supposed to be very weird in both setting and gameplay / genre. We don't know anything about the third.

That 5s tease almost certainly wasn't Armored Core, so that means it's either for the new IP or the mystery 3rd game (which would mean we do know some very vague things about it now -- that it's at least somewhat Eastern and gothic). Ninja Souls has been proposed as a possibility, which would be pretty good since we've had a few Medieval Souls, Victorian Souls, and Samurai Souls (Nioh). And it's been awhile since a Ninja Gaiden game had any real impact. I'd guess it would be the Dark Souls 2 team doing this since Miyazaki seemed to want a break from the style.
