The [chat] where we exert ourselves to talk about things we actually like
I agree with a lot of what Mike Rowe says. We as a country have gone out of our way to make manual labor not-sexy, and as a result people do not reward the work like they should, people only seek that work as a field of last result, etc... lots of that kind of work involve precise skills and knowledge, and much of society relies on it getting done.
We need to do some big things, like make technical college free, and bring wages up for people doing these "dirty jobs" to attract a new generation of bridge builders and plumbers and electricians and IT Field Service techs and all the other essential infrastructure jobs.
That's a bad example, ironworkers, plumbers and electricians generally make good money.
Yeah, NWN literally WAS my dream game for those years that I played it. I feel like Bioware dropped that ball pretty hard after they went on to other things (like Dragon Age), so I was disappointed.
The Kickstarter I fantasize about is basically " remember NWN PWs? Give me half a mil and the dream will live again"
Is NWN the one that had a heavy focus on GM'ed multiplayer?
I should play it sometime given that I own it.
It might be worth starting by playing the first expansion "Shadows of Undrentide". It's totally standalone and, I think, much better written and designed than the original campaign. For various reasons that is rather bloated and takes a lot of patience.
If we can financially swing it, sure. I've never been against free college for all, I just don't think its something you can just say and have happen.
Trades take a much shorter time to develop workers than a 4+ year college program, and we really do need to work on our flagging infrastructure, so this feels like the kind of thing where we could justify an investment in education and the country all at once.

Let's play Mario Kart or something...
They're airing an old TV show from the early 2000s....
it's so weird seeing SD shows.
I, for one, can't wait to tell my grandchildren about how back when I was a lad, the world was in Standard Definition, it was only later that reality rolled out HD and 4K

half a mil sounds ambitious for such a project. Even if you bought pre-existing 3rd party assets for all the 3d models and such (which would, of course, lead to you getting utterly crucified in the cesspool that is games journalism)
Shadows of Underpants is a great expansion. Hordes of the Underpants also v good.
All the NWN content is great tho.
oh yeah, hoards is good times. But it starts at like level 15 or some such and vaugely follows on from the first game (though you don't really need those references). Undrentide is nice in that it starts at level 1 and is standalone.

It's "Les Bougons"...
That is a gross, cynical dark comedy.
It was....... Jeeez, it was a thing when it came out. It was with a mix of well established, legendary stage actors and new ones who got a really good career started.

NWN PWs were like a prototypical MMO that I don't think has ever been properly recaptured, since modern MMOs don't have DM attention that kind of defined a constantly evolving storyline of whatever the DMs had going (or had the inspiration for on the spot) at the time.
I just saw advertisement with Mike Rowe and I'm pissed because I agreed with everything he said. It was mostly about the skills gap with a plug at the end for a school, but I was just getting mad at him for agreeing with him. People are complicated.
90% of what Mike Rowe says is in line with unionization but he won't fucking say that because bootsrtapsrawrawhardjobsforgoodfolkswhycantwegetahead
At least last time I heard from him.
Trade schools are helpful yes, but good wages for shit jobs went away when collective bargaining went away. full stop.
Don't give me wrong, I think union should be more like Europe, pretty much just mandatory. IT definitely needs to unionize, but some trades have a shortage of people and the pay is good, but it often sucks, plumbers make good money but they have to lift heavy stuff and deal with liquid shit.

Might be a little bit ambitious, yes, but I think I have pretty solid ideas for ongoing Revenue that don't abuse players.
The main challenge is figuring out how to pay a DM staff in a world where subscription games no longer sell.

I would also endorse trying a demo of FL Studio and then maybe Reaper
But on pc I would basically use FL Studio or Ableton
Everything else would be a secondary choice
I am indeed. I have FL Studio's demo on hand already, it's just silly in that it won't let you alter a project you're working on once you save it. It seems to be the most recommended tool though.
@desc@chanus the big question I have is what libraries / resources do you know of for instrument plugins?
ableton has a pretty huge library of instruments and racks and a lot of them are free
FL i haven’t used since like 2004 so i have no idea these days but for the price difference i would say paying for a FL license would probably be a better starting out plan
Who here has experience with music composition software? I just realized this MIDI keyboard I bought gave me two; something called "Ignite," and something else called Ableton Live Lite. Though the latter is the only one I have a distinct key for. Maybe the Ignite thing is just an advertisement (but it's on the packaging for the keyboard).

I'd think it would have to be a thing like NWN where you made the tools and the DMs were volunteers. Cause yeah paying them doesn't seem like it would add up. Even if you could get people to pay a subscription I don't think the numbers work out in terms of number of players per DM.

And that may be true
But then I try to replay Pillars of Eternity again, and jesus they balanced that game by making every class boring as fuck
You can't become overpowered in that game, and it suffers greatly for it! There's not really any cool weapons to get excited about, there's no way to like, throw all your resources into turning your one character into an unstoppable monster.
You just gain a level and it's like, cool, the biggest reward I can get is slightly faster attack speed, or +4 accuracy. Who cares.

Yep, I would like 2 maintain both community-driven servers, and official servers with a limited player base per instance and live DM's who are paid to execute A Story season that everyone gets to be a part of.

You also have to consider the level of DM interaction.
Are your DMs just going to run one shot adventures?
Are they going to run over-arching plots that have a shared narrative over the course of several sessions? How do you introduce new players midway through and what do you do about previous players who were invested in the storyline but couldn't attend later parts?
What about player-driven content? How much DM interaction can you spare for these kinds of things? How involved should they be? How do you keep records of what each player is doing so other DMs can assist, or do you assign one DM to one particular focus-area?
These kinds of situations came up a lot in PWs and was always constantly going back and forth in terms of what to focus on. Some DMs liked to do some of these things, others didn't. Some required a lot more attention and record-keeping, etc.
also i've always mixed up julia roberts and sandra bullock for eachother so that trailer was confusing for me
I'm sorry did you see its a movie that used to have an all male cast with women? Clearly this is the worst thing ever and it should be called "Oceans Bad time of Month"

This is how I feel about almost any RPG system with more than about 20 character levels.

Also introduced me to D&D (or at least, more than Baldur's Gate), since part of that PW experience included constant DM attention.
