So I’m back to the only 2 achievements I’m missing is the 2 Iceborne Gold Crown ones, 8 crowns to go, I wonder when I’ll bother.
I couldn't do Iceborne after the base game. To be honest I am moving away from games with needlessly long grinds. There is no sense of accomplishment, you know? And Rise is even worse. Definitely not getting the plat in either the base game or Sunbreak.

I gave up on the first monster hunter while you were still chasing those crowns... lol. just wasn't for me. Kind of why I also stopped playing Gears games with those long-tail multiplayer grind achievements most people just competitively boosted anyway. :V
I think non-base-5 achievements are okay depending on how they are implemented. A list of eighty achievements, none of which require major grinds/effort to do is probably okay. Annoying while you work on it, but other wise okay. I have a not split across one game I'd have to play through I think two additional full clears for 1 point, another at its hardest difficulty for another 1 and then another game that has two multi-player achievements, all of which would pop completions along with staying on base-5.
Games whose total gamerscore is not divisible by five are awful. Yes, you can do this with DLC. See: Ashen, whose total gamerscore with DLC is 1137. If they made it 1337 it would have at least been cute. I think there's a few other games too.
edit: not a full list, but here are a few others:
The Big Con (1402 GS)
Stellaris (Windows Game Pass, 4813 GS)
Europa Universalis (Windows Game Pass, 1587 GS)
Total War: Three Kingdoms (Windows Game Pass, 1441 GS)
SpellForce III Reforced (Console, 1478 GS)

I knew as soon as the trophy list dropped that it would be one of those games where I did not get the platinum. Just trying to stay above 75% completion and hovering right at it, which is fine. Would be higher except my son likes to pick random games for us to play together and I inevitably unlock a trophy or two even though I have no intention of completing it. I could go back and finish several of them and get myself a bit closer to 80 but I think earning 75% is pretty good. Definitely means I am getting my money's worth out of the game in my opinion.
Got the platinum for Meet Your Maker, which is still a PS+ freebie for a few days.
It’s a really fun game where you go through levels that other players made.
Most levels can be done solo, but some levels are made in such a way that feel unsoloable that you do need a gaming buddy so that you can rez each other when you get killed, making the levels easier and quicker to complete. But some players build unwinnable deathtraps; I wish that a player would only be able to publish a level if they managed to finish it themselves.
It does have a certain money grind, because the “upgrade a suit fully”, “buy 7 guard upgrades” and the 3 weapon upgrades cost a lot of resources.
I was really lucky that I built my first base when the game had just released, because that resulted in a lot of players playing it, therefore giving it a lot of XP to me so that I could easily get my base to prestige 10 (which is a trophy). My second base was barely played and I abandoned it at prestige 5. I read somewhere that they tweaked something with matchmaking as people were complaining about that. I did manage to prestige my third base to 10 again; in theory, the “get a base to prestige 10” can be the longest trophy if you’re a bit unlucky. People need to die and give you accolades in order for you to gain XP on a base.
When building a base, I suggest you take a size 1 base which has a build capacity of 1500 (do not choose the ones with less) so that you can cram a maximum number of traps and guards in a minimum of space; I’ve noticed when I’m playing that I’d rather play a size 1 map instead of a size 3 map which has something like 80+ traps.
Oh, and building a base takes surprisingly quite a bit of time; expect to burn a few hours when inventing your dungeon of death.
When playing it for trophies, you’ll notice that you have something like “I’d rather upgrade my traps than go for the 7th guard upgrade or my full suit upgrade”; trophy playing skews the “fun progress” a little bit.
TL;DR: Fun game, bit of a resource grind, play it with a friend for quicker progress and more fun. Not the quickest platinum, but it definitely a doable platinum.
Started and finished off the Jak Trilogy over the past few days. The first one is still pretty good. Funny dialogue, decent platform exploration and ok combat. It did drop a lot of inputs though. Probably every 4th or 5th double jump I tried to do the game just wouldn't recognize it. Jak 2 and 3 however are just bad games. Their only redeeming quality in the annals of video game history being to showcase how quickly character models evolved from Jak 1 to 3. Because literally nothing else did. The very clear influence of GTA 3 in the second one was done so incredibly poorly it boggles the mind. Very narrow streets where you have to navigate what's above and below you at the same time? Terrible. And then in the 3rd one they doubled down on the driving except made them handle even worse. Will probably be the last time I ever play them to be honest. I don't have enough nostalgia to over look how mediocre at best they are
Just completed Under the Jolly Roger. In case you couldn't tell, it's a pirate game This one even allows you to manage your crew, they can die but they're nameless crewmembers. It's actually one of the few console games that feature broadside ship combat... Rebel Galaxy being another (Assassin's Creed: Pirates is mobile/tablet). The game was originally called Tempest on PC, and it got a mobile then Switch port where it was renamed Under the Jolly Roger. However a lot of its controls and UI feel like a mobile game. Once I learned the origin of the game, several of the most annoying aspects of the game's combat make sense though.
Basically your ship will automatically fire if a target is in the firing cone long enough, and if you are adjacent to a ship that is boardable, you will automatically board it. Boarding a ship with a crew that's not weakened is pretty much a game over, as the percentage of crew HP the enemy ship has is distributed into the HP of the mobs you fight. So say a ship has "1000 crew" and the ship has a deck crew of 10. Those 10 enemies get a ton of HP. Naturally there's an achievement for firing both broadsides salvos at once, and naturally the game will automatically reach a "firing solution" on one side if it's closer so you have to race the game to fire your own cannons and it's dumb. The port has some other minor annoyances around the UI too, but it was a fairly amusing time overall. There's a lot of quests and factions though, and with no major overarching "plot", it's just a sandbox. You're a pirate. Do quests! There's 8 factions to work with/against and while the overall structure of the quests is the same, the reasons are different, idk... anyway, I liked it.
I didn't like it enough to continue to play through all the quests and DLC stuff that it had w/o achievements though. :P

I platinumed Jedi Survivor. It's a terrific game in every way and I was deeply satisfied. Most importantly, it's set an expectation for me that a sequel should BUILD on the previous game. Don't just go and randomly shit on the players abilities/powers to reset to 0. Design a game that works with what the player previously had an continues to add to that through the game instead of making me feel like a familiar treadmill.
Got the 100% for all the Midnight Suns DLC trophies
Do remember that this is a buggy game, and if you try to get these trophies after having finished the game, or on New Game+, a lot of them will NOT unlock!
So 3rd playtrough, starting from scratch, until I unlocked Venom (= the last DLC character to unlock) and then focused on nothing but DLC progress.
Fighting Frenzied Dracula, or Dracula and Sin together is quite a bit of a challenge when you’re only level 20
But I did it and have the platinum trophy AND the 100% next to this game in my trophy list.
I got the platinum for What remains of Edith Finch. The PS4 version didn't have one but they added it to the PS5 version so I played it. That was a really good, really bleak game. I didn't know anything about it going into it except people said it was good so I was not expecting that. I am also still working my way through monster Hunter rise. I would like to get 80% of the trophies because I know for a fact I am not getting the platinum but I am not sure I will.
Ugh, one of my Elder Scrolls Online achievements for the new expansion didn't pop.
ESO's Xbox achievements are triggered off of the game's in-game achievement system. I have the in-game achievement, but not the Xbox counterpart. Since I already have the in-game achievement I can't re-earn it. My only option (other than hoping the developers fix this problem) is to create a brand-new character on the Europe server (I play on the North America server), essentially starting from scratch.
Also, the Xbox achievements for the latest expansion were over a day late from actually appearing, so there are certainly a non-trivial of players missing Xbox achievements. Very frustrating.

Same thing happened to me with one of The Division 2 trophies. I just gave up on the plat at that point because while that particular achievement was only about halfway through the story, there was another one for completing everything that also didn't pop. Starting a new character and doing the entire game over again was not worth it. Oh well.

So I got a couple platinums over the last couple weeks.
I got my platinum for Guacamelee 2 and Jedi Survivor. Both really fun games and very fun plats to get.
Out of the blue I decided now to go back and finish up the plat for Final Fantasy VII Remake. I'm working through the random trophies that involve the weapons/music CDs, as well as the mini games throughout the different chapters. Then I'll do a hard mode run through. Shouldn't be too bad and I'm looking forward to blowing through the game with my levels maxed and materia/abilities all maxed. Should be a fun playthrough.
Also started Mass Effect on the Legendary Edition and I think I want to try going for the plat for it. I've never actually played any of the Mass Effect games and I could go for a good space opera.
Working my way through several easy and short platinums just for the change of pace. Finished up a mediocre mech combat game called Project Nimbus last week and just put the nail in the coffin of Heavenly Bodies. The latter is a physics based puzzle game and the only real difficulty comes from fighting with the controls. I can kind of see what they were going for but the reality is that a controller can't really mimic the ability of a person to grab/push with their hands and feet so it got real frustrating a few times. Still fun overall though. Next up is Zone of the Enders 2 which is one of my all time favorites so i am looking forward to it.
I had a rare chance to play some local games as a group of four. I managed to get the group to play Hydro Thunder Hurricane and (without telling anyone in advance of my machinations) we got the achievement for completing a local race where all four human players beat all four AI players.

Finally got around to completing Star Wars: Jedi Survivor. Would have done it a while ago but the story just lost me at the end. Overall the game was enjoyable, but the block bar mechanic in boss fights made those super boring and disengaging to me. Dropped it to story to clear the last force tear because I couldn't be bothered with more grab-death nonsense... did everything else back at JM and then just dropped the final fight guy to story too because I just wasn't there for it. Wondering if they planned DLC for this, but I'd imagine if there were plans we'd know by now. Mostly just seems to be getting patches.
Working on finishing DC's Justice League: Cosmic Chaos next, an amusing take on the Justice League. You play as the main trio (Superman/Batman/Wonder Woman) and you're up against Mr. Mxyzptlk and his antics. The heroic difficulty keeps the game entertaining too. Tons of brawling... handwave to Superman and WW hitting as hard as Batman and taking damage, natch. There's collectibles, including some very niche costumes from the breadth of the trio's comic runs over the years. Dana Snyder does Mr. Mxyzptlk instead of Gilbert Gottfried (who had passed before this game was worked on), it feels like his own version. The other cast voices are basically from various animated DC works. Kid friendly. I think if anything the only downer would be that you can't do the story mode in Co-OP? idk.
“I used to draw, hard to admit that I used to draw...”
328. Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie (PS4): The Western release made me finally get around to playing this. It was definitely one of the better Trails games but doubled-down on Cold Steel 4's approach of being aimed at people who have played the nine previous games. The platinum is really approachable by the standard of the series. There are still some missables, of course. But they aren't difficult to keep track of and the game itself is probably the easiest one so far.
329. Borderlands 3 (PS5]: I had heard mixed things about this game, but I enjoyed it. The story wasn't as good as the Handsome Jack games but was mostly serviceable, and the gameplay itself was fun. The DLCs were also pretty solid, even the pseudo-battle royale one. Trophy-wise, this was much easier than earlier BL games as there was no need to play as multiple characters or complete every challenge.
330. The Surge 2 (PS4): Solid soulslike, a little on the easier side for the genre. The gameplay is a step-up from the first title. The devs put a lot of emphasis on their new "directional block" mechanic, but (as is usually the case) I preferred dodging to parrying for the most part. The story/setting wasn't quite as good as the first one. Trophy guide is pretty much mandatory for the platinum, as there are lots of missables.
331. Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk2 (PS3): Not much to really say about this one. A quintessential 3/5 JRPG.
332. Immortals Fenyx Rising (PS5): This game seems to have been kind of unfairly written off as a BotW clone by a fair number of gamers, but I'd had it on my wishlist for a while so gave it a go to help justify buying PS+ Extra. It was pretty good overall. Entertaining story and - while it has a typical Ubisoft map covered in icons - most of them can be safely ignored if you want, so it's much shorter than an AC game. The DLCs were kind of hit or miss.
Somehow, I had never heard of Fuga: Melodies of Steel (PS4) before its sequel came out. It's a fun tactics game where you control furry children in control of a giant tank. Really straight forward but a fair amount of combat depth. It's also something we don't really see that much anymore - a game where I think it's possible to flat out lose.
The basic structure is that your tank moves down a one-way linear route, occasionally reaching crossroads where you can choose between Safe, Normal, and Dangerous paths. The harder the path, the more xp and the better the drops you get. But you have no way of fighting additional enemies, meaning that if you consistently take the easiest paths, you're going to end up underleveled and underequipped when you make it to bosses (there is a mechanic whereby you can permanently kill off crew members to defeat bosses, but this obviously isn't a viable long-term tactic).
Trophywise, it isn't great, as you have to do a NG+ just to do grindy stuff like get everyone up to max level, etc., without the second playthrough being different enough to justify it. Still a pretty fun game, though.
I got the platinum in Midnight Suns and the suicide of Rachel Foster. Midnight Suns was incredible. Trophies are perfect, gameplay was awesome, banter was funny and endearing, just a solid 9 out 10 in my mind. Suicide off Rachel Foster was a bit more of a miss. It felt like they were trying to say something deep and meaningful but it all kind of feel apart. Next up i an going to do Deathloop. I like Arkhane and it looks interesting so i an excited to dig into it.
I think the only knock for me with the Midnight Suns plat was getting both the light and dark stuff. Had to either grind it out or restart a new game. Shoulda just made it "max out either light or dark", imo.

Agreed but if you skip every cut scene and line of dialogue it's only really an extra few hours on NG+. Especially if you play on story difficulty.

I have been in a big Final Fantasy VII mood recently so I went back and finished up the platinum for Final Fantasy VII Remake. Then last weekend also got the Platinum for FFVII Reunion.
Both were a blast to get the plats for.
The hard mode run for Remake was some of the most fun I've had in a long time. It made me completely rethink how I approached each boss encounter since they could effectively one shot you if your build wasn't up to snuff. Also planning out the build for each super boss made beating them feel oh so satisfying.
Yea, that was a great one two punch of really fun Plats to get.

Two platinums in two days. Took care of FFXVI and Prey. FFXVI was straightforward, it just took a while but Preys "I and it" can go stuff itself. A horribly buggy and unreliable trophy requiring you to kill every human on the station - directly. This means if someone dies to a misadventure or just being plain stupid or whatever, you miss the trophy. So it requires careful management and checking after every human you've killed that you have the right amount of dead people.
I also did it in combination with "no needles" and that was not a great combination, but at last today I have scratched off the those trophies in Prey.

That trophy was bullshit and i am super thankful it did not bug out on me. That waiting period where a trophy/achievement should be finished but you aren't exactly sure when it will actually pop and it takes an entire play through to earn is the worst.

The worst was when I had killed everyone in an area, with Crew Quarters being the most notable example, but it would be 1 or 2 off. It took me several reloads and very thorough attempts to make sure everyone died as they should. Basically "Murder->Check Stats->Save if it went up by 1->Murder->Check Stats->etc". It was beyond tedious. It should just be that these people die in any way and if everyone that's human is dead you get the trophy. Would have been infinitely more fun and bearable.
Par for the course for Arkane. I remember being constantly worried in Dishonored that I wouldn't get the no deaths trophy.

Yeah Dishonored 2 has that obscenely obnoxious musicians trophy, that I only got on my last playthrough and I still can't tell you what exactly the requirements are for it to work properly.
It's been surprising how few PS5 games have made use of the trophy progress system, particularly given that Xbox already had it.

Beat Dead Space Remake 1000/1000 a while ago, nice to get that as a work gift because I would rarely buy remakes at full price, that game is great though, thats how it should be done.
Today I finally got the last achievement in Arcade Paradise for 1000/1000, (Line Terror level 3 was giving me some issues) its an interesting sim game about managing a laundromat that you slowly convert to an arcade, you can get 35 different machines that often are a mix of known games, there is an adventure game where you “fight” with candy crush, a Pac Man game but everything is inspired by Grand Theft Auto etc.

Been slowly going through the trophies in Desperados III, of which some of these are really funny like giving a hapless guard to a crazy dentist or blowing up some evil chickens. I will say that the trophy list looks intimidating, but if you've ever looked at the trophy lists of some JRPGs or similar, it's really not that bad. Possibly the hardest part is remembering the things you can actually do, one of the most important concepts of all is that a tied up guard will pull *any* enemy towards their location including enemies that normally wouldn't leave their posts. So an unconscious dude you can toss around to provoke enemies that would normally be a pain in the ass to get to/dislodge makes a LOT of this substantially easier. In particular on hard mode, using an unconscious dude to lure the extra enemies away is a really good strategy.
Finished up Deathloop 2 days ago. Playing trophy 184. It was fun but it is super easy to miss big chunks of the story unless you spend a lot of time thoroughly investigating every stage. Very Hitman in that regard. Unfortunately it does also give you pretty clear goals and targets to work towards which means you kind of have to make yourself explore. I think it sits behind Dishonored and Prey in my rankings, which isn't bad as i really liked them. This one just didn't have quite the same effect on me.

Some of these badges in Desperados are real bastards. For example, did you know that there are no dogs on this one particular map on the easiest difficulty and that the dog is ONLY on hard+ mode?
I sure didn't! I had to do the mission nearly 4 times to get that silly badge. I wish it used the trophy tracking system as well, so I could check my progress towards killing all the developers as well.

This needs to be in more games. Possibly all games, but I’m not greedy
It is fun, if a little logically dubious. I never got sick of seeing the dismemberment animations.

Agreed but if you skip every cut scene and line of dialogue it's only really an extra few hours on NG+. Especially if you play on story difficulty.

Yea, it wasn't too bad in the end.

I sure didn't! I had to do the mission nearly 4 times to get that silly badge. I wish it used the trophy tracking system as well, so I could check my progress towards killing all the developers as well.
