Im definitely of the opposite school of thought. I think dealing with ganking while leveling will be worth actually being able to participate in wpvp at 60. Pve server pvp is just people not being flagged and then switching it on when they see they have a numerical advantage, and just aoe blasting quest hubs...
it discourages new players from joining in general because the level 60 undead rogue in bwl gear is gonna camp them endlessly since they don't sleep.
Get to 60 before BWL is released and you cant be camped by a bwl rogue, or really anyone if you play around launch.
I'm looking forward to playing on a PvP server again. As a priest even! Psychic Scream, mind control off of cliffs, levitate to escape, lots of fun toys.
Not sure if I'm gonna make a dwarf. I've never made a dwarf and I have a full roster of characters. For some reason the aesthetic never appealed to me compared to humans.

I mean yes that is advice that is probably not all to helpful to a casual or later player, though.

We have officially created a Discord group for a PAA guild for World of Warcraft Classic.
New friends and old are invited to join us for some great nostalgic fun.
I hope to see all you wonderful bastards and bastardettes in Azeroth.
Outside of STV, there really wasn't a whole lot of "ganking". After that it was just straight up world PvP. If you can make it through the gauntlet, or avoid it altogether, you should be ok.
STV was unplayable on my server, while everywhere else you merely had to be watching your back for opportunists and rogues constantly. One of my best memories of classic was catching so, so many rogues while leveling my hunter by standing about 3 feet in front of my freeze trap while killing stuff solo.
I still have no idea how y'all got lucky where you weren't camped for hours. Even switching zones, still hours.
level 25-40 were awful on my realm.
I did a lot of dungeons. Being geared to the teeth while leveling basically means you can crush anyone not geared even a few levels higher than you. For leveling later alts and stuff I just joined the zerg guilds and said something in gchat if a high level was messing with me. Being camped in stv was basically directly proportional to how relevant ZG was to people on your server. If lots of people were doing it there would be lots of foot traffic by the nesingwary quests. If no one was doing ZG then there weren't many high level dudes and being geared helps you there again. IMO stv is a shit zone to level in other than the easy exp from the nesingwary quests.
I’m still trying to figure out what servers I want to roll on. I may join @Kjeldor (we are in the same guild retail), but I’m kinda leaning toward pvp for some reason. Maybe I’ll try a character on both server types (and factions)
Had a great time last night w/ Infidel & bowen. It's crazy how much just feels better in Classic.
One big thing for me was discovering the weather effects. It started raining in Elwynn and I was like, "Uh guys did they turn the weather off after Vanilla?"

They turned weather effects off in Cataclysm because they couldn't make them with with the new tech they were using for skyboxes.
They were originally introduced halfway through vanillam

It's insane to me that an MMO would do this. They intentionally took the life out of the world so that it could be more like a theme park.

From what I read this morning, they scaled down the effects later on, and then in Cata they ditched them entirely. But that's going off of posts from the blizz forums.

One of Blizzard’s keys to success is making sure their games can run on a toaster, and they’ll drop features to do it. It’s a useful mindset when a majority of your company has been developing for a platform that has to compete with significantly simpler hardware. It’s a reason the game took a decade to update the character models.
Well it's a debate about what server. I just don't like the name Myzrael. I kind of want to do Mankirk but I know it's going to full of silly geese. Atiesh maybe Pagle maybe but I just don't know. I know I am going to save two names but I want to see the drama as someone beats one of the streamers to their name

Yeah but still, weather effects are cosmetic. No reason they couldn't be turned off in the settings or reduced to toaster-level. I think Blizzard wants each zone to be picturesque, always exactly the way it was designed and not altered by weather. Otherwise they would have figured it out by now.
I'm 70% sure there was a weather effect on/off checkbox in the options, the gradual dropping of support for and eventual disabling of weather in the old world zones is a greatest mystery of all time

Well it was odd to see bodies of water
I know I have only seen crystal clear water once {a mountain lake} you could see clear to the bottom but it was odd to see the veil then murky water under
the way they did water surface opacity originally was based on what they did in warcraft 3, where shallow water would be transparent and deep water had an opaque blue or whatever texture. Which was itself inspired by water in warcraft 2 where shallow water was light colored and deep water was dark colored and that had actual gameplay implications for like... where submarines could go or something? Anyway it looked like shit in WoW but that's probably why they did it that way originally.
So now that the server names have been released and name reservation is imminent, has anyone made any progress in identifying which servers Twitch streamers intend to use?

Well the brazilians claimed thalnos, and the LA people claimed faerlina. So its between herod and another, but a lot of people are claiming herod as the non streamer server. So it will depend whether the streamers decide to be dicks or not which is 50/50. West coast anything seems safe.

When you pick names you pick your server? The look of your character?
My understanding is you effectively create your character on a server but can't log in. So come release day you can just log in on the character or delete it to free up the name you wanted and recreate it to your liking.
The only reason not to select the look you want would be if you're paranoid about losing the name in the couple of minutes it will take you to modify your character.

That is what I thought about being able to make them get the name and nothing more but I was not sure
Just it's going to be a debate if I want to make either an undead or night elf priest maybe both
A gripe and idea
Why don't they just wipe Barov and put it up there as a server? I feel having 6 pvp servers is silly as there is a lot of people who don't want to play on one. What I am afraid of since I have not picked a server yet is they will have them up for the naming freak out how little people signed up for pvp and then roll out Barov or so to alleviate the pop of several of the servers when it goes live
Live in Australia, its easy. One pve server, one pvp server. I will enjoy playing on a server I can spell (Remulos) after years of playing on Caelestrasz.

you can make a pretty decent looking dwarf in retail
but in classic models, pretty much every dwarf looks like a psychotic wrinkled axe murderer

Leaning towards Raceway since the name is cooler and might have better faction balance, according to the reddit census
