i'm noticing all these leveling guides i'm looking at should be titled "How to grind to 60 in as utilitarian a means as possible without having any fun"
Fairbanks is also alliance, it's the dark iron folk from the Penny Arcade Alliance back in the day. Names I recognize from 15 years ago keep joining the guild (Startlingly Retro) and it is just a blast.
Also I'm continuing to try and corner the wool bag and magic wand markets and slowly making money, or at least breaking even with a lot of skillups for my trouble. If you want to make some bank right now, I would recommend it!
I'm sure eive told this story before, but back in vanilla I started on pvp server. When they released the honorable kill patch everything devolved into a murderfest everywhere and I rolled on PVE server, not knowing that it had just been opened like the day before, so fresh start for everyone.
There was a hunter that was clearly ahead of everyone in the leveling curve, like 5-10 levels at all times, then another group of us behind. Most of us were just questing and doing dungeons. But there was one warlock who swore the most efficient way to level was just grind mobs out in the wild, all day every day. Which might have been the most utilitarian way, but finding a field of whatever level mobs and just dropping dots and fears and life tapping for hours on end? Yeah, uh, no thanks. I'd rather just play the game.
Though the level imbalance did give them a monopoly on the gurubashi arena chest until everyone caught up, so I guess they had that going for them.

It was legitimately fascinating to watch groups of people slowly separate via leveling over time on Day 1 of Classic. There were 100's of people trying to murder the same 10 animals, and then after a couple of hours there was a spreading out.
Unless you're racing for server first I don't see the point of a levelling guide
Just go with the flow of the game. If you can't figure out where to go, just google
yeah i was more looking to just make sure i wasn't missing anything and ending up at level 40 with people going "lol you didn't get the level 25 doodad? you idiot"
just because i know how obfuscated some essential things can be in games that are 15-20 years old
he did 41 hours from launch, took a 20 minute nap, then did another 24+ hours
he slept for 4 hours last night, and is going hard again currently
his teams goal is ragna within 5-7 days
outrageous
yeah the meme is Day 7 Ragnaros kill.... multiple guilds are going for it
kind of gross
i really hope blizzard completely and totally ignores these people when they start bitching in 2 weeks about how Phase 1 is played out and Phase 2 should be released ASAP

Is that Thi3n?
I can't imagine how any group thinks they'll be able to Ragnaros in 7 days. Even with modern knowledge, you still need X amount of stats on gear (a lot of which will come from/be accelerated by MC drops) before you have the numbers to clear MC.

There is also a rep grind to even be able to access Ragnaros.
Yeah, the math doesn't work unless you're farming lava packs until you get... I think all the way through friendly.
any time you say the word "unless", just think about who we're talking about here.... of course that's what they would do
although I was doing a little channel flipping today through some of the poopsockers, and unless the pace picks up like 3-fold today, I'm doubting whether Method will even be able to zone into MC this week
Plus if you're going to hyper-rush Ragnaros like that you need tons of consumables, which means you need time to farm the consumables, which means you need time to get people leveled up to 300 Enchanting, Alchemy, etc.
I'm sure the first Ragnaros kill will be much, much faster than I would have guessed but lol @ 7 days. That's gotta be based on 3rd party vanilla server leveling.

You also have to get the aqual quintessence
Which requires you to kill MC trash
then
Earn Honored reputation with Hydraxian Waterlords.
then get
Hand of Shazzrah
Hand of Lucifron
Hand of Gehennas
Hand of Sulfuron
MC trash gets you 20/mob or you can farm in silithus at 5 rep/mob. You need 9000 rep to hit honored so you'll have to kill ~450 trash mobs in your first MC run before doing any of the 4 key bosses (or farm 1800 mobs in silithus). You can shave off the last little bit by killing bosses (@ 100 rep per). Most trash respawns pretty slowly too, so the MC run itself will take a long time, which if you have a hard deadline you may run up against...
Ideally you have a human do it so you only need 8181 rep or 410 trash mobs
I had this wave of nostalgia and memories I didn't even know I had watching a streamer play classic. I'm really really tempted. Even if it's just to have a successful run of Strath or Scholo and remember how good it felt to nail the boss fights when they were difficult. SM always felt like the first true skill-check and was very rewarding. Ugh. Talk me down.
I am really in no rush to get to 60. Just playing 8 to 10 hours a day now is well not for me.
It's not the nostalgia but this was when the world was fresh and new. the walk to Sepulcher on my undead rogue was just so amazing to see that graveyard is so cool. the Son of Argul was out I said hi in stealth as he ate yet another afk player
I was freshly 60 about 2 weeks before Zg opened I think? And the fact I was up at night I just goofed off and farmed stuff in a vain chance for gear. So I had earned Honored with the Hydraxian before I went to MC {yes I was farming rune cloth off the mods in Slithus before I hit up farming country of EP and Felwood

Same here, I would love to get in on Classic, suddenly feeling like being nostalgic. It is tempting, but I know I shouldn't. I need to finish this last year of college and actually graduate now that I have gotten this far. Plus I have young kids, so not like I have time to game these days anyway.
edit:
I still remember some of the most fun I had was in the 40-49 bracket of Arathi Basin with some really decked out gear. I was a Paladin and a friend of mine was a Warrior and we would charge into battle both wielding flaming Kang the Decapitators and all the best dungeon drops that bracket could have. So many runs through Maraudon to get some plate pants out of there, can't remember the name.
This was the second time I played WoW, after taking a break for about 6 months I came back with my friends and we rolled on a new RP server that just opened(Thorium Brotherhood). Having already played the game, leveling from 1 was much easier, as was making money. I played the auction house on that server. Buying up low level battleground twink rares that people would put up for 1g not knowing their worth and I'd turn around and sell them for up to 100. Sometimes buying all the materials of a type available, and putting them all back up at the same higher price. Some would sell before people started undercutting me and I would eventually lower my prices back to what I bought them for, but profit was made. In hindsight I was kind of a dick, but where my first time I played I struggled to buy my mount at level 40, by the time I hit 40 on TB I was already up to 3000 gold. Also I was a Paladin so I didn't even need to buy a mount anyway. Sure makes a difference knowing how the game works versus being brand new.
i'm noticing all these leveling guides i'm looking at should be titled "How to grind to 60 in as utilitarian a means as possible without having any fun"
maybe i should skip the guides
I find the guides useful in a "Okay I'm underlevelled for doing this zone I know I like, so where do I go now?" and it'll point me towards a place with decent questing that I can play around in for a while. The ones that are like "FOLLOW THIS EXACTLY" are definitely not for me.

Honestly, the only reason I haven't gotten in on this is that my WoW account is locked for some reason. I use that as my way of never taking that crack again, lol.
Shit, even one. It's funny seeing lots of skeletons laying around from people who died and had to spirit run back. Hell I've done it a handful of times, it's really amazing how quickly a 1v1 fight can get away from you at early levels if the mob is +1 or +2 over you.
