my problem right now is that if i try to login at 8pm at night there is still a 3 hour queue on Fairbanks. so i may not get back on that server for a week or so to see if it dies down. i just can't wait that long and i don't have a good option to try and logon earlier.
Been playing on Kirtonos alliance. Didnt have a queue to login at 5:30pm cst. Im sure there was one later because suddenly westfall was filled with people. Took AGES to get gnoll paws and finish westfall stew duoing with my wife. After a few hours we had a combined 3 goretusk livers lol. Also it felt like we were super underleveled which was probably from grouping together. We’ll probably have to go do stuff in loch modan for a little to get back on track for westfall. Im always so envious of horde for freebie exp from rfc and the like 7 quests that go with it. Then they just do the wc prequests and boom theyre 18 and do wc. Stockades isnt even close to being worth running compared to the rfc boost.
Im only lvl 13 but it felt like i was questing on super hard mode.

Playing the undead areas from deathknell to hillsbrad is hard mode
But I feel they kind of nerfed grouping together for quests as the drops are terrible compared to solo
There is a real lack of greens in the pre 20's to de or to equip as I have only seen 2 drop. I have yet to do a dungeon because it's a constant spam of people asking

it certainly seems like grouping is an active detriment to progress outside of dungeons
If an Alliance player tries taming something you're trying to kill, they lose aggro the second you engage it instead, and they lose their tame. So it's super hard to "steal" with taming.
I went out there with a temporary pet named HelpTameEchy and waited until someone came to do the quest and noticed. Only took a few minutes; the hard part was just getting there. Don't go through Theramore, lol.

depends on your class. if a Warrior pairs with literally any healer, the total uptime of the warrior pretty much quadruples, and it's not a terrible tradeoff for the healer either
i think priests are generally pretty happy with sharing xp with warriors, druids who have already gotten cat form perhaps notsomuch

i mean, not xp-wise, but quest-wise
it just makes all the collect quests take even longer
though i'm sure the fact that everything is overcrowded as it is right now is playing a part in that
I think having to kill more for collection quests is offset by killing faster in a group. Also, I think it's nice to not have to be deathly afraid of pulling two mobs at once.

yeah but the issue is there aren't often two things up at the same time to kill heh
Allegedly a voice of reason.

like that leper gnome quest in the gnome/dwarf starting area
ChanusHarbinger of the Spicy Rooster ApocalypseThe Flames of a Thousand Collapsed StarsRegistered Userregular
they aren't day 1 crowded but they are crowded enough at times it can be a struggle to get the kills you need
most stuff just takes longer as you can maybe get one in three or something of what spawns
that gnome leper quest seems singularly impossible to complete if there are other people in the area
Allegedly a voice of reason.

This may be wrong but I think it may also depend what layer you’re in. I play at the same time each day and yesterday a couple of areas were absolutely swamped when I ran by them two days ago and they were basically empty.

it seems to be thinning out more and more as people are leveling up and moving on
i imagine this weekend will be a bit crowded though
a majority of quest target areas are going to have pretty rich spawns
i've seen some that don't... it's situational.. but most are just jam packed with enemies and rapid fire spawning that makes things pretty hellish if you're the type of class that dies from literally any mistake
i really think a 2-3 man group is hyper efficient at most quests in most situations, particularly with a rogue or warrior in the mix

I went out to do hogger yesterday and couldn’t find a group, but the gnoll camp was just an absolute slaughterhouse. I wandered around for a bit and coincidentally saw hogger spawn right in front of my, so I took a swipe at him without really thinking and then a killswarm of eighty fellow adventurers descended upon him and stripped his bones clean to bleach in the sun. Since I had the tag, I looted the quest item and ghosted before any of them realized a spawn had been wasted on a single person.
This game is both much harder and much easier than it was when I joined a couple years after original release.
Gnoll Paws were a pain until I got up to 15 and could solo the strings of single gnolls and campfire gnoll groupings in far southwest Westfall, above the coastline. Like 30+ gnolls just sitting there.
I looked at some Twitch streams and there's a guy that's already level 58. He's AOE clearing a bunch of mobs and then he gets someone to invite him to a party, which puts him in a new layer fully populated with mobs.
I wonder if Blizzard expected layers to be exploited like that.
if you're on Pagle and are looking for a more normal questing experience, Ashenvale was virtually empty last night
there are definitely people doing the NE areas, and Darkshore is filling up... but it looks like late-level Darkshore really takes the starch out of people and they're not sticking with it long enough to get to 'Vale...
so I'll be questing there tonight
its gloomy and purple and boring, but it's nice and quiet too

guilds exploit the pick system (basically the same idea but you can manually move to different picks) in everquest like this for rare spawn camps and keying so it's not terribly surprising someone thought to do it here

As shady as that is I have to admit it's very clever. I wonder what other ways people will figure out to abuse layering as we go forward.
the most prolific one will probably end up being re-forming raids under different people on PVP servers to layer away from enemy faction on raid entrances
look I know that streamers are not a totally representative group of all wow players, but I've heard a lot of mad shit talked about the superiority of pvp servers and how it's "the real game", and I have seen nothing so far but total and uniform all-out efforts to avoid world pvp at all costs while leveling up on pvp servers lmao.
i guess im naive but I thought the point was to fight the enemy faction as part of the journey, but in practice it seems like a lot of people just want to give themselves more to do during Phase 2 I guess? I'll wait for WSG.

I'm playing on Mograine and this guy is just insanely ahead of everyone else, I was wondering how he did it.
Abusing layering to spawn mobs for aoe farming is rather creative!
Hopefully they fix that. I don’t care how fast people level as much as abusing exploits that can impact the economy. Looking at you, Chinese gold farmers.

If you are watching streamers right now, almost all of them are racing to 60. Anyone racing on ANY server would avoid any distraction. PVP is a distraction.
I personally liked the sporatic PVP while leveling the most, and is the main reason I would go PVP. But I also am in no way ever going to be able to race to max, so I would be taking my sweet ass time anyway.
This also sucks because those same streamers racing to 60 and insisting on pvp servers are the people who will reinforce the stereotype that people only go PVP to gank. They will not engage in any PVP they are not dominant in. Likely again, because wasted time. Which sucks because that still isn't the main reason people go PVP, but they are going to be the most visible so welp. I guess it is going to give people even more reason to hate it.

blizzard does not like that kind of exploiting. IIRC they banned and/or rolled back characters who did stuff like mob tagging and other exploits at expansion launches to hit cap. Exploiting layers was one of the biggest reasons people pushed back against it. Going to be a blood bath in phase 2 when they get rid of it.
Hopefully i can pound out a few levels tonight and spend a good amount of time tomorrow running dungeons to kind of catch up exp-wise to where im questing. Though ill probably also waste a bunch of time organizing an expedition to wailing caverns from westfall.
I'm planning to stream tonight because I got my treadmill desk setup and want to give that a shot, but I'm not racing to 60 because I had to go to work. I'm level 24 I think so I've made solid progress! Had a few PvP encounters in Ashenvale where I was WAY outnumbered and tried to run for it but was largely unsuccessful so I went to a different zone instead. Hopefully the next ones are more even footing.

Finally started playing, made an orc shaman on Fairbanks since I'm still waiting for my friend to get his computer probably this weekend to start my undead warrior.
Leveling is a bit faster than I remember, I've played maybe an hour and a half and I've hit level 7, almost level 8. Pretty good so far. Trying to save up the silver to buy axe weapon skills for my shaman.

I never fear death or dyin', I only fear never trying.
Fuck, the zeitgeist is swaying me. Is there an agreed-upon Horde server? I don't expect to do any grouping really, just figured I'd join whichever one has the most PAers.
Something that's really startin' to get under my skin is people not inviting.
I see people CLEARLY doing the same quest as me in groups of 2 and 3. Shared-credit quests, where it's clearly to everyone's advantage to just freakin' group. And I'm standing there just SPAMMING that I'm LFG, and nothin'. And I can't invite THEM because they're already grouped.
It's ridiculous. If your group ain't full, then WTF are you doing?
Well as already discussed in the thread it nukes your exp being in a group. And i know i refuse to invite more people than my wife on a collection quest. They probably just want to do their stuff and get max xp for it so they can get away from most people.

Is there an Alliance quest to summon it or did you snipe it from a Horde player?
I'm Horde and I had to try that quest twice because the first time someone else stole my spawn and the quest item turned out to be single use.

I get a character to like level 15 or 16 and start thinking... "You know, maybe I'd rather be a warrior."
Then I get my warrior to 15 or 16 and start thinking... "But what if I was a priest..."
and also I am highly tolerant of extremely long runs back and forth around zones in the name of doing quests in what I regard as the "right" order
if wow had a fitbit tracker, my character has probably done 100 miles or more so far, and I'm not even level 20!
