Oh man was reminded of the existence of this today, did anyone else's neighborhood group get massively confused by this movie back in the day, wondering wth happened to Dre, since we didn't really have the internet to find out wth was going on back then?

I had actually heard of Dre and Ed Lover before, because my brother used to listen to Hot 97 all the time. I thought radio Dr. Dre was around before/around the same time as rapper Dre?

They had actual hits in the 90's, but I tend to think of Butthole Surfers in their true dirtbag 80's weirdo glory. Plus that was the decade they released Hairway to Steven, which may be my favorite album title of all time.
“They sprinkled LSD on their cornflakes every morning," he continued, "which was then washed down with Johnny Walker Red. Beer for lunch, lowly Mexican dirt-weed smoked in bone-dry bongs for dinner, and then two hours of coughing fits and another bowl of LSD an hour before showtime."

Butthole Surfers’ live shows—particularly those in the 1980s—are the stuff of monstrous myth and grotesque legend, involving everything from burger-stuffed mannequins to fist fights, fires, dye-filled condoms, nudity, and even supposedly full-on onstage sex once. All of this took place while layered and lysergic projections would show images of graphic medical procedures on the back wall—a fascination Leary and Haynes picked up early on, as demonstrated through their own ailment fanzine Strange VD.
I'm surprised how little Oasis has been brought up, especially since they managed to be the head of some new "British Invasion." I remember wearing coloured round sunglasses for a brief period. Anyways here's Wonderwall.
Then there was the much maligned follow-up album, which is a perfect example of what happens when you do all the cocaine. You lose the ability to hear treble well, and want more of it in your music. Still I rather liked this song.
even looking up on Google the biggest hits from the 90s the list seems dire to me.
That is the magic of music in the 90's as it really no longer mattered to a lot of people about hits as there was favs you could share and not be scared to show people

it's just weird. in the 90s I didn't really get into music because basically everthing on the radio didn't appeal to me at all in one way or another. usually I thought the stuff the other kids were into at school was some flavor of huge bummer or other especially grunge rock type stuff but everthing seemed to borrow that aesthetic to some extent. I spent most of the nineties with the only music I really listened to being stuff from the 70s maybe to the early 80s in the car with my mom.
As I add these tracks to the Spotify playlist, a couple suggested tracks cross that line of 90s Canadiana and tracks the received a decent amount of play.
