You can still spell. Obviously not drinking fast enough.
I’ve had 2 shots and 6 beers in the last 1.75 hours. Not a terribly fast rate I suppose but I reach my budget limit before I reach my tolerance every damn time.
The goal is clearly get drunk enough to avoid going to Hoboken entirely
Actually I’m almost probably definitely maybe going to Hoboken.
I met a new bartender at bar 1. She’s cool and we hit it off but I closed out and went to bar 2. Bar 1 and 2 are sister bars (same owners) and literally around the corner from each other in NYC.
Both are pretty much dead. The bartender I met at bar 1 is cool but I promised to visit bar 2 so I closed out and left. I told the bar 1 tender I may come back but I dunno. I know the bartenders at this dive in Hoboken and that’s usually a good random time and they just posted a photo over there and well that looks more fun than here. It’s also much closer to where I live in Jersey City.

Ah didn't realize you were a journal square dweller.
Are the bartender socializings for chatting or hook ups? Because I had a terrible running percentage on one of those two back in the day and I'm curious if it actually works for anyone.

I live in Newport actually, right near the mall but by the water (i.e. not the heights).
And...it’s a little weird re: hookups because I briefly dated someone at the aforementioned bar 2. Bar 1 girl I just met, might actually work with her since she designs clothes and I do photography.
To directly address your question: I’ve dated 2 or 3 bartenders depending on what constitutes dating.
I tried to make this happen once but my boyfriend picked up my phone when it was at one thousand and something and had an ocd fit and deleted them all.

I just left the olddest old people's new years eve celebration. That ball dropped and everyone was lookin around like... "let's fuckin sleep". We're all old and boring and fuckin sick. It was great.
I watched my wife, her sister, and her sister's boyfriend get pretty drunk. My sister in law especially got hammered. Never understood the appeal personally. Not a terrible way to ring in the new year all told.

I think I've gotten to the point where new years seems like a farce, and everything is one big continual cyclical slog.
But I mean, the idea of New Years is a hopeful one, so maybe I should focus on that? Humans are defined by ideas, after all... and a little positivity couldn't hurt after the last 12 months of horror.
I mean, it's totally symbolic, but like you say, that's how human brains work. Having a big culturally accepted checkpoint that's all about resetting and renewal can be handy, if you want that. Alternatively, it's an opportunity to get drunk and give the past year the big middle finger.
Getting in the mindset that time is a grinding, cyclical slog may feel more cynically true, but it can also make you feel more trapped than is healthy.
I suppose this is as right as it gets.
"Being Woke" is sometimes is a hopeless exercise in cynicism and can cause people to get petty and hopeless because they convince themselves of the futility of their existence on a larger scale.
I do have things I'm looking forward to next year. I think I'll focus my energy on improving there instead nihilism.
I think the most important part about being socially conscious and focused on activism is constantly looking forward, so I honestly really enjoy New Year's. Realistically, things are pretty shitty. They will be pretty shitty for foreseeable future and they have always been shitty. But the world is also much better than it used to be! Regression is a constant threat but we just gotta keep trying to do better one day at a time, one week at a time, one year at a time, and hopefully someday our grandchildren will look back on how fucked up we all are, and they'll have their own gigantic problems to tackle, but we'll have done well enough they get a chance to.
Getting recognized (on the internet) for music is the thing I have resolved to do. Not super-duper famous, just like... I dunno. Validation I'm doing the right thing for myself.
Cool! I didn't know you were into making music. Got any links? One of the hardest things about doing music is getting other people to listen to it.
Me, after playing live music for over twenty years, I've recently started making music on the computer and I'm looking forward to learning a lot more about it. I think I posted something like this in the holiday forums, but my plans for 2018 are
1-get better at music production! Enter some mixing and mastering competitions.
2-get better at neural networks! Enter some kaggle competitions.
3-start learning a game engine like unreal or unity, or even something like pygame or panda 3d, and make a shitty little game for practice.
I'll probably be able to do two of these three things, but I haven't decided which two yet.
2017: the year all your favs turned out to be sex pests and you just wished they'd died.
I'm not holding that against 2017. 2017: the year your favs stopped getting away with being sex pests. Basically 2017 was the year where a lot of things that were going on beneath the surface for years were finally getting dragged to the surface.
2017 was everything I expected it would be.
Here's to a 2018 that has some pleasant surprises in it.
Moving into a new job where I do work will help with that I think.

Goals: Get at least 3 more stories on the No Sleep podcast.
Read a book a week.
Maintain current lifestyle, but maybe add exercise in two weeks once I hit my one month.
Keep a list of movies I've seen and analyze them deeper than Good or Bad.
Finish video games.

Stayed home due to freezing temps last night but doing New Years Day lunch with friends at an Ethiopian place. A good way to start the year.
Goals:
-Finish getting some certs
-Get a promotion, should be on lock but I want the early one in July not the one starting next year. This can be like ~8-10k if it matches my previous promotions
-I am figuring out a weightlifting schedule. I do about about hour+ of walking a day with the dog but adding 30 minutes 3x a week in a gym wouldn't be bad and I have a gym to use at my condo
-Get into a relationship, I am just a year out of bad first dates again
Hopes:
-Trip to Vietnam with friends in the fall, if I can pull the funds together
-Finish my 40k painting backlog and of course that is impossible as more as added
-Have a full painted and based army ready for NoVA in August
-Read a bit more, I read about 10-15 books last year maybe double that
-Volunteer in the elections. I am in VA and Tim Kaine is up for reelection and we need him to win.
-Finish a neat public facing project I started the last few weeks in R for my work as an experiment.
For NYE I met up with some friends early. The brewery we wanted to go to closed at 6, so we went to the bar across the street. They had a food truck out there with really good, but REALLY spicy pork shoulder.
After a couple hours on the East Side we all went our separate ways because we all had different parties to go to. I rang in the new year with some of my oldest friends (guys I've known since 6th grade and 10th grade, and I just turned 39).
January 1st started with a kick ass workout at OrangeTheory, a chuck roast in the slow cooker, and black eyed peas on the stove.
I'm pretty darn hopeful about 2018. It's now my 3rd year working as a freelance filmmaker. I have some great projects on the horizon already, have built some good industry friendships over the last couple of years, and have some fairly solid plans for building up my business this year, and moving from getting by like I have for the last two years, to really thriving this year and into the future.
I'm working with a democratic congressional candidate in a suuuuuper red district in Texas. I'm going to be producing some videos for her and helping her polish her marketing & message thanks to my extensive experience watching The West Wing.
I had a not-quite relationship never really get off the ground in 2017. I still have a bit of a thing for her, but I'm moving on. Already met another nice woman and have another couple of dates in the near future with new women as well.
So all in all, things are looking pretty good.
