Awww man Aphelios is actually super fun to play dammit I don't have time to learn this loon
Other than my general issue with "I'm playing an immobile ADC and have poor self-preservation instincts" I think conceptually he's a really cool design. I still have a few issues with him (short version is guns need drawbacks), and he feels a little clunky with swapping everything, but I do enjoy playing him.
I'm not actually surprised that Senna's already getting a legendary skin, but who would have guessed Irelia would get one this June /s

I still don't like him and find his design wildly out of place for this game.

I still can’t ever figure out what aphelios is capable of doing at any given moment, but thankfully he’s mostly vanished from my games in favor of semi mobile, self peeling adcs

I really like him but I haven’t put enough time into learning him and I’m also not sure when I would pick him—just not a good sense of what lanes he works in and what team comps he’s good for. I never see him in my games. I’ve mostly been playing Jhin but after a super annoying recent game where I played my heart out but could not carry against some very tanky opponents (I picked Jhin before seeing their comp) I am maybe going to play more Sivir and Caitlyn and Varus.
Varus is a new pickup for me this season after many years of feeling kinda countered by him and not knowing why, and holy shit he is so fun to play and he does so much damage! Sniper Qs when people think they can linger at low health in lane csing under their tower are soooo satisfying. And having initiation tools is quite valuable, and perhaps more importantly once you have a couple items you just absolutely shred with your autos and also attack incredibly fast; it’s disgusting.
My go-to ADC at the moment is Senna. I simply can't rely on any peel that I don't bring myself -- in a recent ranked game, I picked MF, the enemy team picked Malphite and Talon, and my support picked Pyke -- and teamfights are tending to be plenty over by the time I R-W-AA-Q-AA. I also find that I simply don't die in laning phase with her. Her W-E stops ganks cold and brings your support along with you.

If my ADC sucks I can play a support that can carry.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Why did no one mention league was back?!? Well, sort of. I'm watching the last day of the mid season streamathon since msi was cancelled, and everybody is having so much fun! The EU cast was amazing and their raising money for covid relief.
The role swap C9-TSM show match was pretty entertaining. I can't say I watched the EU one. But a neat event / idea, and they even had some fun things during the broadcast.

I think at this point I'm almost as much of a fan of LEC as I am LCS. I do still pull for C9 and have since they emerged, but I think they count as their own region.
Actually, I think Flyquest and Evil Genius have provided some entertainment, too, but I'm not sure the former will ever match up to C9.

Had a game where our jungle shiv just destroyed and made 3 of their team ragequit.
Then the very next game I had a jungle olaf say in pre-game chat that he was gonna afk. then he goes to invade and nothing comes of it. he ganks bot and dies and blames the support then says he's done with the game and leaves.
then because the support's feelings were hurt, refuses to surrender and sits at fountain. then ADC leaves the game. And at 20 we can't surrender with 2/3 votes.
luckily it only took another 3 minutes for the enemy team to finish.
Yeah I thought I might try to get back into this game a bit. LoR kind of got me that itch, so why not?
1) the game is so wildly different than when I played. The best I can tell was I played maybe in 2013. The summoner's rift visual update hadn't happened yet. I used to basically only jungle and the amount of information I would have to learn feels like way too much. I have to learn if they're a banking or farming jungler, I gotta know their path now, which is now crazy different! Then every other lane matchup so I know who is gankable, who needs help, etc.
2) the community fucking sucks. First game back they ask me why I suck so much. I explain why and they say "it's okay to stay retired" which like, okay good burn I guess but unhelpful. I also got to be locked into a 25? 30? minute game because someone didn't want to give up at 15-20 minutes when the Garen was somehow 12-0 and had four levels on everyone and was indiscriminately murdering anyone anywhere. They killed our Nexus before it got to a simple majority vote.
Why would I want to basically self teach myself a one credit hour course to be locked in with some really boring and obnoxious people. Few things compare to the despair when you're basically not going to win a game and would rather move on to the next one and people just don't want to surrender for whatever reason.

Unless you are completely devoted to the cause of jungling, I'd recommend picking up top or mid instead. Jungling is the second to least popular position after support--may even be less popular--and, as you've mentioned, if you want to be good it does require a shitton of game knowledge that you'll pick back up over time but for now would kinda suck to relearn.
For mid and top, you only really have to know your champion(s) and your champion(s)' matchups. You do have to take a look at the map as mid to see if there's a good time to roam to the other lanes (provided your lane is in a good spot and you won't lose a lot of XP or get murdered in the river by enemy mid), but, while your decision is informed by the matchups in the other lanes, you can also just look and say 1. is the enemy pushing and 2. do my friendly laners have enough HP that they aren't going to die if I gank. If the answer to both is yes, just go for it regardless of matchup.
I still really genuinely enjoy the game. If the community is an issue, I recommend muting immediately. When you feel more confident, you can change that to muting only after the first instance of toxic behavior.
When my support immediately hovered Shaco I was like noooooooo (obviously I didn't type anything; my heart just sank). But then I op.gg'ed him and he was a shaco support main with 350 games on Shaco support and a positive winrate. And not only was he a really solid support--conservative in lane bc Shaco cannot do much early (bad Shaco supports always try to fight and die), very smart defensive box placement, and incredibly impactful in his roams and early ward in the enemy jungle--he was super positive and would type 'woot' or 'yay' whenever we got kills. It was a really positive experience! (...even though I got fucked up in lane by my own bad play and had to recall lvl 2 and miss at least half a wave and come back with a Cull ;_; ). The jungle had great presence and positive attitude too.

I think I would advise to anyone that's been out of league that long and wants to get back in to start a new account, level that up a bit, and then return to your old account when you have a better feel for the game.

In my head laning would be easier because like you said, you only have to know what is right in front of you. But I've never seriously done it since way back in the day when I didn't have the funds to jungle, and I've always been ass at last hitting because well, jungle, or support barring that.
I've always loved the jungle so it's hard to give up on that. You're a rogue element and you have your fingers in every pie. You can always be super impactful and even a gank that doesn't end in a kill can mean setting up a lane favorably, or good ganks can spiral a game out of control. I've always enjoyed the freedom of it, but it's like being the quarterback. You have to see everything and pick the correct plays.
It's just...so much. Apparently you can solo dragon at low levels? And there are different kinds. And there's a rift herald and mobs in the river, and then maybe twice as many champs as when I left?

They change jungle every year--thankfully you don't have to learn some of the stuff they didn't keep (though they usually do keep a bit from each season).
I don't know who you used to play as a jungler, but let me suggest Warwick, Xin Zhao, or Fiddlesticks as pretty simple options. (And all can solo the dragon about as soon as it's up.) There are quite a few champs who can make jungling work now, but those have relatively straightforward kits. If you want specific advice or anything, hit me up. I'm sort of a jungle main (play fill as much as anything because I haven't been doing a lot of ranked) and would be happy to talk about it.

I have probably have a pretty good collection for what existed back then. I looked up some tier lists and it seems like a lot of old favorites have fallen off a bit. Riven, Sej, Nunu, Shyvana, Maokai, maybe a few others I can't remember off the top of my head. I'm pretty confident I own all three you mentioned although maybe not Warwick.

Well, Warwick is only 450 BE (I think), so that's an easy pick-up if you want. Aside from Riven, all of those are still pretty solid junglers; Maokai wouldn't be considered meta but it's doable if you want a tank. Shyv is mostly played as an AP fireball delivery service, though.

New jungle is a lot to take in at first and requires a bit of research. Much of the new additions to the terrain actually make a lot of things easier but if you don't know them you'll fall way behind. The jungle items do a lot more than before too but just like the terrain require knowledge to properly exploit. I also think smite heal has been added since you played. Jungle isn't technically more difficult than before but it's more complex. There are a lot more things to pay attention to but also more tools at your disposal.
Also, Nunu is still super good. He was in the top tier of several lists last patch and it probably hasn't changed.
ChaosHatHop, hop, hop, HA!Trick of the lightRegistered Userregular
Smite heal is definitely new. Actually all of the crazy amount of healing from those new items is new. Which I guess is good? Jungling was pretty gated to whoever could actually sustain the punishment, so that seems to have opened it up to new stuff, like Graves. That's pretty new and interesting.
