One of my friends in high school was a German exchange student, and she had opinions about heteronyms. She would forward emails to the group that were just extensive lists of English sentences that piss Germans off, like "The dove dove under the net" and "The bear is too close, close the door!"
Germans may not know when to stop compounding a word, but by God they know exactly how to pronounce it when they're done.
