I only got to play Goldeneye once at a party with my friends, and Oddjob was the only one I recognized so I wanted to play him. And was told he was banned. My next choice was someone's 'dibs' character. My third choice was some scientist who was also banned. So I just picked another scientist, found a science room with other scientist NPCs and just left my character idling there.
Wasn't there a game a bit ago that was a 4 person multi shooter, but the gimmick was you literally couldn't see other people thru your own view and had to screenpeek?

My brother still talks with a thousand yard stare in his eyes about playing me on Bunker with proximity mines when I knew the order of the spawn points. I'm pretty sure I once got him into something like a 12 kill loop.

My favorite thing was putting proximity mines on ammo boxes and then picking them up. It would respawn without the mine visible but it was still on the box.

The controls, plus the fact that a few maps have simply not aged well
In 1v1 it can be nearly impossible to find people!
you have nearly perfect information about where your opponent is at all times!
Everything on that map was featureless and brown and it had several floors ok
I have a pretty decent memory of all of goldeneye's maps, but at the same time i do initiate a lot of fights in 1v1 by declaring exactly where i am and calling my opponents cowards until they come to my room
At Uni, we decided on the Oddjob Rule; Any player selecting Oddjob may only use the Klobb, or their controller will be confiscated.
It worked quite well.

Should have called it the OddKlobb rule. You fucked up.
I'm of the opinion that Goldeneye's multiplayer was better than Perfect Dark's. Being able to 100% customise the loadout was less compelling than working within the confines of the system presented to you and also the farsight was horseshit.

I don't see what's imbalanced about a OHK hitscan gun that can see and fire through an unlimited number of walls and floors.

Yeah
perfect dark easily outclassed goldeneye for me
you could create so many scenarios and minigames!
hiding from perfectsims in the windowed bunker of area 52, stuffing n-grenades up each others butts until you got motion sickness and threw up, playing i got shotgun (where a single shotgun spawned in that level with several bridges to leap from) and it was a race to one kill
i mean the game barely ran but i somehow didn't notice that at the time
I think Perfect Dark was an improvement on Goldeneye in every single way. I would use guides to figure out where multiplayer weapon placements were, and tailored map setups with that in mind.
But, yeah, the Farsight was stupid in multiplayer, and the CPU couldn't use them like a player could. Great for a gimmick round, tho. One time, I spent 10 minutes seeing how many farsight headshots I could get on the CPU before getting bored. When I eventually popped out of my bolthole, all my opponents had tiny red blemishes all over their faces (since the killing blow from previous deaths sticks around on the character model to some extent).

Timesplitters was fantastic and it's my number 2 saddest dead franchise.
Number 1 is the Def Jam brawlers, Fight For NY is the best PS2 game fite me
Yeah honestly Timesplitters was far more the game of my nostalgia than Goldeneye, which I only ever played like three times when it was relevant because I was about three years too young
The N64 in general is a lot harder to go back to than the PS1
I always played oddjob because my friends mostly played slaps only and when you play oddjob your first slap is actually his hat you can throw and it instant kills. And my friends never worked this out.

My best friend liked playing as Oddjob, and was a master with snapshots and the golden gun. Goldeneye turned him into a real fucking asshole
I was a real Timesplitters fan before that stopped being a thing
