I've never actually had a bread bowl, but I do love cutting slices of bread into 'soldiers' (strips) and dunking them in a bowl of soup, I can't think of a better way to combine the bread and the soup receptacle.
I'm all about dunking bread into soup.
But if I were to put bread in soup, eat all the soup, then have the bread, I would find that really gross.
That's what a bread bowl is.

I have never actually tried anything with a bread bowl
seems like it'd be good with the right bread though
Any hard crust round bread will do. You won't really taste that much given that the only bread part is the crust. But if you're making it at home, the bread you scoop out can be used for other things and as such yay yummies.

I can't find the article now, but to cut down on plastic waste from carryouts, some guy (in India, I think) invented sporks pressed from lentils.
I thought it was a really good idea.
Oh yeah, and if you can do it, hell yeah, eat dat bread bowl!
My only complaint about the standard bread bowl is that sometimes I want to eat some of the bread before it is wise to remove it from the side. Sometimes I dig too deep, and too greedily, and my chili or chowder or whatever breaches the wall, drastically changing the whole meal experience into a panicked triage operation.
The perfect bread bowl would therefore be studded with bread nodules, that could be torn off without compromising the overall structural integrity.

I've never actually had a tortilla bowl but I default to assuming I'd like it since I like crispy tortillas in general and I definitely do like bread bowls

Absolutely I love those things
I think maybe the pinnacle for me would be a bowl of soup, and a ton of little bread spoons that I can use for each bit of the soup. I feel that would unlock all of the bread/soup pairing combinations.
I like crunchy things, and bread bowls are the opposite of crunchy. If I want bread with my soup it's gotta be all toasted up and torn into small bits which are tossed into the soup as needed, so that they don't get soggy.
Tortilla bowls on the other hand, are always crunchy! Thumbs up
I go to Panera Bread and order a cup of soup with the bread bowl on the side.
You get more soup and it doesn't cost any more.
This is actually false, at least at every Panera I've been to, I worked at one and when we get this order we do a small soup cup, which is about a single ladle, and you get about a single ladle in a bread bowl as well

Oh it does. Chili in a bread bowl is like the pinnacle of ski lodge meals.
That sounds like a good thing to put in a tortilla bowl
Bring your best New England clam chowder and I'll bring my best Manhattan.
Then I'll need you to leave because New England clam chowder will truly make me a prisoner of my own butt.
For what, delicious food ideas?
There's no mention of soup.

So the idea of eating bread that once contained a liquid is straight up appalling to me

Why can't an all bread diet be good for you?

Huh, it always seems like more soup.
