I brought along 2 full lockers of gold and diamonds on the rocket. That should cover my bill, right?
Nope. Alterra considers everything in 4546B already their property. They might pay you fifty bucks for being delivery boy, but the stuff is already theirs in their mind.
Why would you leave at all just to return to your horrible indentured servitude company?
Honestly Reapers are a lot more scary than they are dangerous. I felt terrified by them right up until I went to the Aurora and tangled with a few of them, and discovered they're just not all that.
Bonesharks remained an issue for far longer. Damned Seamoth-swarming assholes.
But yeah, I could see someone going "...you know what, I think I'm okay here. It's boring but on the other hand Robinson Crusoe doesn't have to spend the rest of his life in court".

I haven't finished the story yet, but personally, I'd want to figure how to use that giant alien laser. Then I can tell Alterra I personally don't give a shit whether they think it's their planet or not, if they want to land they have to land on my terms
Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if Labor had not first existed. Labor is superior to capital, and deserves much the higher consideration. - Lincoln
I really hope the Xbox version gets finalised soon.
I'm in the end stages, I just need to mine some Kyanite in my newly upgraded Prawn, and I can build my last tier items, then head back to the lava zone.
I don't want to actually finish it until the achievements are put in.
On the subject of finishing it - can the Xbox version be completed at the moment, does anyone know ?
I know a message is supposed to play telling you the location of the power facility, but that hasn't popped for me, leading me to suspect it's not in the game yet...
Speedrun practice has been going well. Tried a stream tonight but died about an hour in because I had trouble finding a particular item.
Gotta figure out where to get the enzyme plants, couldn't find the Eye Stalk plant and got distracted looking for it. But still, managed to activate the portal to the hatching chamber in about an hour and one minute, plus had all the tools I needed except for the laser cutter. Don't need the better suit, the heat hurts but not enough that a medkit or two can't keep me safe.
Hoping to get a finished speedrun submitted this week, it's been really fun! Might go back and try and do a 100% run for fun afterwards, plenty of places I didn't even see in the first playthrough despite taking 40 hours.
You know, I couldn't help but notice the Neptune whose plans they sent the captain for evacuation was a single-seater. What was the plan there if there was more than one survivor? Was the captain expected to go "so long, suckers" and leave everyone behind? Battle Royale for the seat? Stash the other survivors into lockers and hope they survive liftoff? :P

Your PDA tweaks things for your individual case. You're the only survivor, so it gives you a oneseater.

The recipe for the Neptune also includes Ion Power Cells which would not be information that Alterra would have. The PDA, in conjunction with the scanner, has some artificial intelligence. When you first get Stalker Teeth it is able to create a blueprint for enamaled glass despite not knowing what a Stalker Tooth was mere moments before.

That's actually explained in-universe. Either the Alterra tech guy or the PDA mentions that the plans would need to be modified because the baseline plans don't have enough power to get you close enough for a rendezvous.

That does not explain anything. You play what is basically a Janitor, how is he supposed to be to make the modifications to the design? How is he supposed to know how many of them he needs? Heck, how does he know how to make Ion Batteries and Ion Power Cells? The PDA has to be doing most of the work because Ryley isn't going to have the skill set to do so.

I mean, the original plans might have included just having 5x the normal power cells?
I have a seabase! Bio-reactor, Moonpool and Scanner room are all up and running, I'd planned to fuel the reactor with creepvines from the kelp forest that's only about 100m away, but so far its been easier to just grab random fish and stuff them in there, so I guess my electricity is not suitable for vegetarians. At some point I'll do a run back to the floating island and grab some seeds so that I can grow my own fuel/food and be self-sufficient at last but my next priority is upgrading the Seamoth. I've painted it bright yellow so that it'll be easy to spot and named it Bumblebutt because now it looks like a bee, but my real priority has got to be the perimeter defense field. Maybe that will go some way towards curing my crippling fear of Reapers... but probably not.
after running like a baby over and over again, I made a prawn suit today and I punched a reaper in its fucking face and it felt good and it ran away like a coward while I screamed for more

The seamoth zappy is indeed enough to completely remove fear of Reapers. Just wait until you're grabbed, then hit it. You'll come out of it with like 13 damage to the Seamoth while the reaper scampers away.

Creepvine is really, really terrible at providing power, so that wouldn't have worked out very well for you anyway.
Fish are generally the best, but there's also a thing that's both plentiful and efficient, but you probably won't think to try without a hint. It's pretty intuitive once you think about it, though.

Acid Mushrooms.
I always wondered if the item in your spoiler was efficient or not. I've been using their sister plant exclusively because I could farm it and logic tells me it should be really efficient.
I actually started with Bulb Bushes because they were glowy and seemed like they should generate a bunch of power, but when I came across
deep shrooms
I realized those were better.
edit: just googled it and apparently
deep shrooms and acid mushrooms give the exact same power to a bioreactor
I tried another Hardcore/Glitchless speedrun last night and almost got the record. Record is 2:26, I got 2:30. So I need to shave like 5 minutes off of the run and I should be good to go. Hardest part is probably farming all the silver?

I had looked up a speed run the other day and a lot of time was lost looking for a tooth to make enameled glass.
But then I stumbled upon a kotaku article with tips for playing and they had this
Feed stalkers metal to get stalker teeth
If you’re carrying some scrap metal when a stalker attacks you, you can drop it in front of them and they should go after it. Not only will this get them off your tail, but you also might get some stalker teeth out of it, which you need for enameled glass.
I also didn't know that sitting in chairs stops your hunger/thirst meters.

Yeah I didn't have too much trouble with the teeth last night, dropping scrap next to them helps a lot. Plus you need just boatloads of titanium so I'm keeping an eye out for teeth anytime I have to head to the kelp. They make a noise when they lose a tooth too.

I made my first alien containment unit because I found a huge egg way way down. I knew it might be something weird/cool/dangerous
and...it was a crabsquid...is this thing going to destroy my base?
Nah, creatures don't destroy bases and it can't bust out of the aquarium you hatch it in. If you release it it will get bigger and might attack you though.

Everyone keeps saying that! I find it very unlikely that would happen but I'll certainly keep that in mind should I ever find myself in some sort of subnautica race. It's been a lot of fun trying to get it lower!
So for people who have gotten through the story a good ways:
I got into the main alien building on the island, where the gun is. I got three ion batteries and linked one gate (that one and the floating island). I found a note that gave clues to the other locations of the alien base. I have a cyclops with a depth module mk 1 now and a prawn, so I'm trying to find the disease research facility. It says:
Depth - 800 meters. South-west of the enforcement platform (the gun I guess). In a cave system with fossils.
So I'm looking around but can't find it. I have found a series of floating islands just brimming with sharks to the southwest, and the main island tapers down into a very small connection to the ocean floor. But that area is super thermal, with vents everywhere, makes me think that it's the opening to the deeper facility?
In searching around that general area it seemed like the slopes moving upward but can't find any caves
can anyone give me some hints without being too specific?

I hope they do a second series, with someone else taking the main role.
