So for people who have gotten through the story a good ways:
I got into the main alien building on the island, where the gun is. I got three ion batteries and linked one gate (that one and the floating island). I found a note that gave clues to the other locations of the alien base. I have a cyclops with a depth module mk 1 now and a prawn, so I'm trying to find the disease research facility. It says:

Depth - 800 meters. South-west of the enforcement platform (the gun I guess). In a cave system with fossils.

So I'm looking around but can't find it. I have found a series of floating islands just brimming with sharks to the southwest, and the main island tapers down into a very small connection to the ocean floor. But that area is super thermal, with vents everywhere, makes me think that it's the opening to the deeper facility?

In searching around that general area it seemed like the slopes moving upward but can't find any caves

can anyone give me some hints without being too specific?
The thermal vents area is along the way to where you want to go. The deeper facility is waaay deeper.

So that specific place is in a
    greenish
    area.

I wanna say you can follow
south west from the enforcement platform to find an entrance to the place you're looking for, but there are a few other entrances to the area scattered about here and there.

    If you happen to find
    Sonar
for any of your vehicles that might help if you're having trouble.

I tried another Hardcore/Glitchless speedrun last night and almost got the record. Record is 2:26, I got 2:30. So I need to shave like 5 minutes off of the run and I should be good to go. Hardest part is probably farming all the silver?

Should you find yourself at a future AGDQ, perhaps you could make a shout out to the forums?

I'd totally donate some money to cover your travel expenses to help you get to SGDQ or AGDQ. This will be a fun game to see at those events.

Is it possible to make the cyclops a self sufficient base with water production and stuff?

Interior grow beds loaded with either marblemelons and/or bulbo trees work pretty well.

I don't think you can fit a water filtration unit on the Cyclops, but you can put growbeds on there (i think, haven't done it) and with Marblemelons you get plenty of water.

No need for full-size growbeds. Bulbo trees can go in single-plant pots and can go in corners and stuff to look like decoration, instead of taking up a big ugly square somewhere.

I put a few up on the bridge and just chowed down whenever I started driving, made the water filtration system unnecessary for most of the game.

The Cyclops design is weird in general. It seems so obvious that you should be able to put a different power source and both other vehicles in there, but for some reason you can't.

At a minimum, you should be able to put a power transmitter on there, so it can recharge without shuffling power cells.

I'm sure we'll get a bunch of Quality of Life upgrades in future patches.

I'd love a new exploration sub for deep operations but that would make the cyclops obsolete though.

This is still processing so quality is low at the moment but LOOK WHO GOT A 2:18 SPEEDRUN! Hardcore/Glitchless, and I think the current world record for that mode and I've submitted it to the speedrun.com boards. Thanks everyone for helping me figure stuff out a few days ago! edit: oh man I should use a different thumbnail picture, that screenshot I grabbed is from an early access build whoops. Speedrun is from full game of course.

I'm surprised that the Prawn suit's drill arm is less effective than a glorified heated pocket knife at killing things.

I took a break from Subnautica because I was afraid I was getting too close to the end and my stretch goals to beat certain games first was in jeopardy.

Now I'm hoping I put a beacon at the fossil river place cause man I am bad at finding things. At least scanner rooms are more affordable than I thought so I can spread them around.

Kinda hit a copper bottleneck again though I have the drill prawn with grappling arm if I could find any nodes.

  • 3cl1ps33cl1ps3 I will build a labyrinth to house the cheese Registered User regular
Honestly if you build one upgraded scanner room in a kelp forest you'll find all the copper you ever need, there's loads of limestone chunks in them there hills.

  • MuddBuddMuddBudd Registered User regular
There are also large copper deposits in the Mushroom forests. Build a scanner there, set it to copper, profit.
