If I got my Star Fox fantasy, it'd basically be the flying segments of Kid Icarus: Uprising. On rail flight, gyro or motion controlled aiming, possible with some aim assist. Give me an Arwing I can customize and upgrade. I even loved Kid Icarus's weapon crafting and difficulty slider system, and would love it for Starfox. Keeping the branching path structure is a must too. It might be fun to give your wing mates orders, or upgrade their ships, or give them bomber/scout/escort duty. Maybe you only get to pick one per mission, and they each have distinctly different roles, and assist in branching the level progression in different directions.
One thing I absolutely wouldn't include is any vehicle which isn't a space fighter. Even the tank is out.
Nah give me the tanks. And the chicken-walker. I love that.
Perhaps my favorite moment in Zero was flying into that dreadnought's shields, climbing into the ship itself in chicken form, ruining its shields, and then frantically escaping from it before General Pepper lasered the crap out of the whole thing.

This talk is reminding me of one of the game design one-liners I've had in my back pocket for a while: "what if Star Fox, but Fire Emblem?" Meaning the gameplay is all on-rails fighter-pilot shooting like Star Fox, but your team is built out of a continuous stream of new recruits, and any ally shot down is plain old dead for good. The plot branches on who's still alive by specific chapters, from the golden "and they all lived happily ever after" down to "the last surviving hero's suicide charge on the enemy base".
My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.

Oh you made me picture an isomorphic overhead view of a planet surface with little ships floating over it and you choose which one to move and where to attack in turn-based fashion.

I would be all for a Valkyria Chronicles style turn-based game with direct control of your units, being done as a 3D space combat game. I honestly have no clue if that would work or not but I would play it to find out.

So Star Fox 2?
That or SF: Command. There basically the same game in that regard.

All this Star Fox talk got me depressed that they delayed Manticore ... and even more surprised that more Star Fox fans aren't talking about that game. I've said it before give lend the franchise to that team and let's see what they do with it.

They just need to take after Star Fox 2 and make it a strategy game with traditional "fly down the hallway" levels when traveling between cities and planets and arena style battles when fighting over a city/space station/major fleet battle.
Adventure Pals is pretty awesome - except in handheld mode. It's not scaled for 720 and the smaller screen so everything is super tiny. Some of those smaller jumps become super hard because you can't tell wtf is giong on. XD

No Fox's Sky.
I had hoped that 30% offers would coexist with using gold coins as currency, but it seems not to be.

Too bad none of that will ever happen.

I'd like it to come out sometime this century.

Playing SF2 is an interesting bit of history. You can see where Command and Zero got ideas.
Super Star Fox Wars. Complete with over-the-top cutscene attacks.
Also, we need Mario Maker Switch like, last month.
Why not [insert Nintendo IP] Maker is more like it.

I couldn't really get into Kid Icarus. I'd really like the on-foot shooting to be something stylish and fast-paced like Vanquish.
That's fair. Did you play the Star Fox level in Bayo 2 ever?

Ah snap it's $40? Yowzers, yeah think I will pass for now.
Didn't know it existed. Couldn't get into either of the Bayo games though. Which is weird, because I love DMC.

Speaking of Tomb Raider, why the hell hasn't Square Enix ported those games to Switch yet?
